Mrs. Dan Hill went to Monmouth for a visit. Mrs. Chalmer Schafer and daughter were at Fort Wayne today visiting. Charles Sether made a business trip to Fort Wayne this morning. William Riberstiii® left today for Battle Creek, Mich., to visit after being here for several weeks with relatives. An Italian orchestra, comprising harpist, two violinists and a flute player, rendered exquisite music on the streets of the city today, and were royally greeted. On account of Thursday b mg the Fourth of July, the Ruth Circle mee* ing of this week will be postponed until Thursday of next week, when Rev. and Mrs. George O".en will entertain. Mr. and Mrs 'G. S. Gates of Willshire changed cars here this morning enroute to Fort Wayne. Mrs. Gates will enter the Lutheran hospital, where she will probably undergo an operation. ‘ The Misses Ethel Ehinger, Cather ine Hclthouse and Stella Kohne. who have been students in the convent of the Sisters of St. Agnes at Fond du lac, Wie., have arrived hame for a two weeks' visit with their parents.

Mrs. Jeff .Xddy and babe of Root township were in the city this morning. — ' Dr. Costello made a professional business trip to Fbrt Wayne this morning. George Brewster' and Albert Butler were business callers at Monmouth this morning. Mrs. D. S. Barkley returned to her home near Hoagland this morning after shopping here. Miss Lilah Lachot left this morning for Apple Creek, Ohio, for a visit with relatives. Miss Clara Bultetneier will spend the Fourth in Fort Wayne the guest of her sister, Mrs. F.rnst Nahrwald. Mrs Sadie Cowley and daughter, Maude, of Fort Wayne are here for a visit over the Fourth with the C. J. Weaver family. Mrs. John Crone of Winchester, Ky., who has been a guest of the J. H. Bremerkamp family and others, left this morning for St. Mary's, where she will visit before returning home. Lilah Lachot left today for Orville, Ohio, after a short stay, and from there will go to Apple Creek to visit with her uncle, G. K. Lachot, and her brother, Dwight, who is working in a large rubber house there. Mrs. William Hurst and daughter, Helen, of Rock Island, 111., who havv been visiting here at the homo of Sfr. and Mrs. Lee Conklin, left Monday evening for Decatur, where they will visit with relatives. —Bluffton News. Mrs. Florence Tyndall and two children of Pennville, who have been visiting with her brother-in-law, J. S. McCrory, and family, since Saturday, will lea s ' this evening for Van Wert. Ohio, where they will be guests over | th. Fourth. Bluffton will not have a street fair this year as has been its custom in past years, but is making preparations to hold a big Chautauqua, covering th'e week of July 12-19, which will bring to that city some of the very best lecturers and entertainers. Dr. J. N. Hurty says that when looking fbr a summer resort, the question you should first settle is. has the resort good sewerage, pure water and
no flies. Without these conditions Dr. Hurty says you take a long chance of closing your vacation with an attack of typhoid fever. William May of .Cleveland, Ohio, is here for a visit with his mother, Mrs. Boyd May, who has been ill for sometime. His grandmother, Mrs. W-illiam Harden, who has been sick for some time, is in a serious condition, and he will also visit at her bedside. — Bluffton Banner. At Hartford City Della Cheney, aged fifteen, applied for divorce from her husband, Fred Cheney, but Judge Sturgis refused to grant the divorce on the grounds that the girl lied about her age when she married a year ago. She declared she was fifteen, when she was but fourteen. . Earl Sowards, proprietor of the Madison street garage, left this morning for Detroit. Mich., to secure a Hup touring car, which he recently disposed of, and will drive it throng!} to this city. He expects to reach horfte by 9 o'clock this evening, if everything goes well, and he, meets with no accidents. Russell Harruff, an electrician at the Fort Wayne Electric Works, sustained injuries to his back in his efforts to lift a motor boat off a sandbar at T ake James. He was able to get down to the shop this morning but is very badly crippled. Maurice Steele was with Mr. Harruff at the lake. -Ft. Wayne Sentinel. Two deaths resulted from the severe storm in Allen county, in one case a horse being struck by lightning and in the other a Jersey cow meeting death from the same cause. The horse was the property of William Crabbs, who lives near Norton Crossing, on the Decatur interurban. 'The cow belonged -o Henry McMacken, near the golf grounds. The funeral of Mrs. John McCague, a life-long resident of Bluffton and Wells county, was held'Tuesday afternoon. Her death occurred Sunday morning from an extended illness with cancer of the breast. Her maiden name was Mary Diana Sutton McCague, a daughter of Oscar and Margaret Sutton, and she was born on the old Frees or Sutton farm near Murray. She was sixty-two years of age. She is survived by her husband and three children. Bert Tucker and Jacob Moser had a collision with their bicycles cn East Main street Saturday evening, by which Bert was thrown to the brick pavement with such force that be was picked up for dead, and he did not regain consciousness until Sunday afternoon. He has a big gash on his head and until' yesterday was still unable to give an account of himself and had not yet fully realized what had happened to him. Mr. Moser escaped without injury.—Berne Witness.
Miss Inace Ray went to Chicago to visit for a while. John Omler of Root township was a business visitor here today. Miss Treva Ray went to Monroe to spend a few days with her grandmother. J. P. Haefllug will arrive from Rochester today to spend the Fourth with his family. Miss Dorothy Erwin of Ft. Wayne, will spend the Fourth with her parents, Mr. ami Mrs. Charles Erwin. Mrs. John Lachot left at noon today for Berne to attend the Sunday school picnic to be held there on the Fourth, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Uhl and daughter, Jenette, of Toledo, Ohio, who visited with her parents. Mr. and Mis. B. J. Terveer, have returned home. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Brown and daughter of Coffeyville, 111., transferred here this morning on their way to Kalamazoo, Mich., to visit for a week or so. The glove lactory will close this evening for the remainder of the week, thus allowing the employees a vacation of several days as well as over the Fourth.
F. V. Mills writes friends here that he enjoyed the convention at Baltimore much, and :s now visiting at other points in the east. He will probably return Friday. MerT Burdg 'eft this morning for Sidney, Ohio, on business, after visiting here with her parents. She was accompanied by her brother, Dick, who will make a visit with her. The families of County Clerk F. Bleeke and Gits Reinking, will spend the Fourth in Fort Wayne, where they will attend the opening and dedication of the new Foster park. The Misses Edith and A T elma Erwin will leave tomorrow for Delphos, Ohio, where they will visit. Miss Edith will return Sunday evening and Velma will spend a week with her brother, Ralph Erwin and wife. Mr. pnd Mrs. Henry Schulte and son, Frederick, and Louis and Herman Boehne of Union township, are at Cincinnati, and today attended the wedding of Lottie Mueller to a Mr. Wolfrang, well known young people. Miss Rena Butler arrived from New’ Castle for a visit with Ray Collins and family over the Fourth. The school board, which was to have met this evening to receive bids for the frescoing of. the school house rooms, has postponed its meeting, on account of the aosence of several members; F. V. Mills being at Baltimore attending the convention, and O. L. A'ance at Rome City. Word from the Eugene. Runyon and J. Q. Neptune families, who arrived Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Lake James, is that they reached there safe and were having a good time. When the card was written, immediately upon their arrival theye, they had had fish for a meal already. They didn't say whether they caught them. The fourth annual old settlers’ meeting of Adams, Jay and Wells counties will be held at Linn Grove July, 19, 20, and 21. Prominent speakers are being engaged for the occasion. The secretary. Nelson Bricker, states the program will soon be completed. The ground selected for the affair is situated along the line of the B. G. & C. traction company, which will add to the convenience of getting there. Various attractions are being secured, such as balltKii ascensions, merry-go-round, and contests are being arranged. The attendance will doubtless be large BASE BALL DOPE. Lovers of base ball are asked to bear in mind the two games to be played here July Fourth between the Decatur Shamrocks and the Fort Wayne Crys tais. The first tame will be played at 9:45 in the morning, and the second at 2:30 in the afternoon. o RLT.d CIRCLE NOTICE. A case which hag been pending for some time in Squire Stone’s court in which Miss Leota Ross charges Noah Baker with bastardy will probably be called in the near future.
