The three guests of honor have long been friends and the dinner party was a very pleasing reunion. The Misses 'Wilma and Leona Opliger entertained at 6 o’clock dinner in honor of Supt. E. C. Opliger, of Pierpont, S. D., high school. Mrs. Smith is widowed, her husband dying May, 1909. A case growing out of the double tracking of the Chicago & Erie railroad was filed in the Adams circuit | court this afternoon by Attorney A. P. Beatty for the railroad, against David E. Studabaker and the trustees of his estate, John Niblick and William L Vesey. The complaint is lor condemnation for the right-of-way of a portion of the real estate of the Studabake-* larm, through which the railroad runs, and upon the price of which agreement could not be made. The case makes application for the appropriation of a certain part of Studahakers farm “to be used.” in the terms of the complaint, "for the right of way of its railroad, roadbed and tracks, including side tracks, switches, turnouts and water stations. I materials for construction, purposes, sufficient to enable the plaintiff 6b.’poration to construct and repair its said road and for making proper drains for its right-of-way and roadbed.” The proposed appropriation comprises four hundred eighty-three cne-thousands of an acre. July 15th was the date set for the determining of the matter by court. Dick M. Vesy appeared for the defendants, who waived summons, and Henry Krick, French Quinn and B. W. Sholty were appointed appraisers to fix the damages or benefits and report to court. —- o —• FUNERAL OF MRS. ANNEN, The funeral of MfS. Christian Annen was held this afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Magley Reformed church, the Rev. C. H. Schneider officiating. The services were very largely attended. The body was- laid to rest in the Maplewood cemetery, this city. JOHNSON-SMITH WEDDING. George Owen, pastor of the Christian church, officiated Tuesday evening at B;3ft o’clock at the weddir.y N Mrs. Florence E. Smith and Mr. Jefferson D. Johnson, the ceremony was performed at the home of Mrs. Sarah Hendricks, 245 North Seventh street, and was a quiet one. Mr. Johnson is a painter and paper hanger. Mrs. Smith, who is the widow of the late Will Smith, has been employed for some time at the People's restaurant. They will make their home in the city. o DICK VESEY’S NARROW ESCAPE. Dick Vesey of Fort Wayne was to have been a member of the balloon party Tuesday that was killed al 6:30 o clock Tuesday morning at Atlantic City, N. J., when the dirigible balloon, the Akron, burst 2,000 feet in air. Mr. Vesey had got been able to leave as he had hoped Saturday, postponing his trip for a week. o PUBLIC NOTICE.
