A REPUBLICAN "SORE" ON TAFT I Decatur. May 10, 1912. Editor Democrat: Dear Sir: I see in a recent edition of the Daily Democrat that the situation between President Taft and ColI ,onel Roosevelt has not changed much. I Maybe so —so. II But lam sure of one thing—that 11 the situation between the general pub ; lie and President Taft has changed 3 I quite a bit during the past week. 31 The office of president of the Units’ed States surely ranks among the j highest offices to be held in this o' world, and therefore exacts of the s holder thereof to be possessed of great s dignity, that he may inspire and command respect and reverence for his ' exalted position and office. Now, I am a republican, and have c always been taught from childhood e up—forty years—that any man who c can be the choice of the majority of l> the voters of the United States to be ? the head of the government must be a man of great dignity and a man to be respected, regardless of his politics, and I have always resented any dis- ? respectful remarks to the contrary . made in my presence. ; But, when the president of the United States is stumping the states for renomination for the office will in an ironical sentence throw away all the , dignity of self and office and show , every voter o f our grand country his own unappreciative concern for the dignity of his office as he did in his , Columbus, Ohio, speech of May . 1912, when with great emphasis upon . the “too” he asks: “Wouldn’t it have , been “too bad if Mr. Roosevelt had . gone down with the Titanic?” . Great God! Just top and think of , the piesident ot the United States r< , ferring to such an awful thing in a I political speed, for renomination, and i then, again, against a man that held his office three times as long as Mr. Taft has held it! As'a southern boy once said to me. “Wouldn’t it squeeze the juice out of your lasses stick?” i (He mgant his stick of sugar cane 1 i Can the American voter wish to rei turn such a man to the highest seat ■ in our government as a sample to our toys of what dignity a man must be to be president? A REPUBLICAN. ATTEN-.-O*’, PUBLIC. I wish to cal', your attention to the ’ Kentucky brel. uoning stallion.
