A BEET BOOSTER CONTINUED n<OM CAGE ONE black ground. Mr. Baird assisted in building up the beet business in California, Colorado and other states and his opinion means much. In each of tlie places he has seen the industry spring up, the entire mode of farming changes, people prosper and everybody is happy accordingly. If you would realize the importance of this new industry here you should talk to Mr. Baird a few minutes. Arrest McClish (Cont’;,«’£ti ran- * "ge One.) Ward. McCllsl' " ills agents would secure the tell them bow th. y could buy five ' ~ies as much money as they would put up in cash, claiming that he had recured a plale from which flie i- . money was made. When th: victim was “ripe" he wins taken to Toledo, wher* McClish put on the finishing .ouches, securing the swag. It is believed that'the local men who accisted the "king” received only a small i-yttior. of the fruits, nor much mot'v thpn wages, while McClish got the big share, and lived as befit ted his title. Among his victims are Fred Koenig, Ralph Spade, Ed Mar chaund, Dan Cook, and a number <>T others, some of whom refuse to admit toe rruth, however. The search for McClish has been very strenuous since the conviction o. Mr. Reynolds and tlw credit for the arrest is due to Sheriff Durkin, Police man Melehi of this city and Sheriff Wilson of Van Wert, who assisted i.i various ways. McClish will be tried here, perhaps not until September lie is known as a slippery one, and every precaution to i reve"t his escape will be made. BOENKER BABE DEAD. Jaus. ■ f OPERATION PERFORMED Upon Mike Smith This Morning for Liver Trouble. Dr. Barnett of Fort Wayne and local physicians this morning operated j upen Mike Smith for sclerosis and enlargment of the liver, with which he has been suffering for a week past, and his condition has been regarded as quite serious. Upon a consultation of doctors it was believed that an operation was pet haps the only t“ng left that would bring relief, and upon making the incision it was found that he was in a very serious condition, with but little hope for recovery. It v.as also thought that if he could withstand the shock of the ordeal he had a chance to recover, but this he will be unable to do for a few days. MAKES SALADS TODAY.
