Mr. and Mrs. Frank Butler made elaborate arrangements to entertain seventy-five or eighty friends this evening in honor of their tenth wedding anniversary. The “blue” section of the United Brethren Y. P. C. E. U. societf will give a hard times social this evening at the home of Mrs. Thomas Fisher, to which everybody is invited.. The society recently divided into two sections —the "white’ and “blue,” for a contest. Mrs. J. C. Sutton entertained the Mothers’ club Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Arthur Suttles will be the host-, ess in two weeks. Australia, its country and climate,
made an interesting study for the Shakespeare club Wednesday after- , noon at the home of Mrs. Dan Sprang. In the absence of Mrs M. E. Brackett, Mrs. John Niblick was leader. The meeting next week will be with Mrs. H. R. Moltz, and Mrs. Jane Crabbs will be leader. The Queen Esthers have postponed their meeting from this week until next. Monday evening when Miss Cacil Eady will he hostess. Colonel George B. Lockwood of Marion, who will deliver an address to the men of the city at the Methodist church next Sunday, will be a guest at the Dr. W. W. P. McMillen home during his stay here. Mr. Lockwood is a cousin of Miss Minnie Orvis. Miss Cecil Eady entertained the Florhul de Purin club last evening. Sewing, music and refreshments pro vided an evening of pleasure. Miss Stella Chronister will be hostess next Wednesday. The Baptist Ladies’ Aid will hold an aprou and pastry sale at the Indiana Lighting Company's office on next Saturday, and the ladies wish to state that they will have every thing in this line for sale, and ask your patronage. HAS APPENDICITIS. T.awrence Elzey, a young man well known in this c'.r, who is now working in Fort Wayne, was suddenly taken ill Saturday and upon diagnosis it was pronounced appendicitis. His father. Alfred Elzey, who lives here, was called, but would not allow them to operate upon the boy until it became a life or death matter Monday. The operation was performed, and since that time Lawrence is resting easier and is said to have bright hopes for recovery. HAS NEW OVERLAND CAR. Dr. D. D. Clark has purchased through the Schug & Mettler agency of Berne a ISI2 Overland automobile, four passengers, complete in every detail, and one of the most attractive cars ever shown on the streets of Decatur. The car is equipped with a selfstarter, a speedometer and all other conveniences. The car sells for S9OO, this of course without the starter and other equipments. The Berne agents , expect to place a number of these cars in Adams county this year. It was on the streets today and attracted much attention.
