NEW YORK WINS I (United Press Service.) New York, N. Y., Oct. 25—(Special ' to Daily Democratl—Splendid weather conditions marked the fifth contest between the Philadelphia Americans and the New York Nationals in the j world’s championship series here this ; afternoon. A bright sun was shining, and there was not a cloud In the heavens. Sufficient winds came up this morning to dry out the polo grounds, and to insure a fast field for the critical clash. Philadelphia, with three out of the four championship series games to their credit, and the taking of this aft-f ernoon's game, which would give them the world's honors in balldom, and with New York still clinging to the hope of defeating of their opponents, | and winning the worlds title both teams entered the polo grounds her" > this afternoon with more “Pip” and ' confident of victory' than for any o f > the other four preceding games. With 1 Marquaid for New York and Coombs' for Philadelphia in the best condition ' possible for the twirling of the ball, a better outlook for a tight clash was never before surpassed. Everything went well up until the first half of the third, when Philadelphia, with two men on bases, and Oldering coming ■ up, swung at one and sent it into the left field bleechers for a home run, i scoring Coombs and Lapp ahead of him. With the beginning of the fourth, Collins already having received his Base and Baker ready to follow him, Ames was sent into the field to warm up. while Becker relieved Marquard at the bat. In the ninth inning the Giants got down to business and before they I could be stopped by the Athletics they had run two counters across the bag and tied the score. At this time not a fan in the grounds was on his seat, i and the Athletics held a council of war. The Athletics being unable to reach home plate in the tenth, it was lup to the Giants to do something, which they did, and managed to force Doyle across the plate, winning the game. Score 4 to 3.
