Many from here were in attendance ' at the Fourth celebration at Monroe, going on the early morning train, while others drove through to witness the program, Which had been especially prepared for the day. Raymond Gass, Hubert Schmitt and Gus Blottkamp of Kendallville were among those at Monroe July Fourth, taking in the celebration. The trip was made by bicycle and considered by them a scorching one. Miss Mary A. Johnson of Akron, Ohio, a former teacher in the Decatur high school, will arrive Monday noon from Akron, Ohio, for a short visit here before going to Ladoga, where she will spend a two weeks’ vacation with relatives. Mrs. C. C. Wilder was hostess to the Concord Lutheran Ladles’ Aid society Wednesday afternoon at her home In Monmouth. The large number present spent a good social after noon, during which refreshments were served. Among business matters given attention was the arranging for a social to be given at the C. D. Kunkel home next Tuesday evening.
A SERIES OF SALES Will be Conducted by Abe Boch of the Decatur Horse Sale Company. BEGIN AUGUST 7TH Horses Will be Sold Only on Commission — Eastern Buyers Will Attend. Although the season of the Jecatur Horse sale company lias closed for the year, we are gad to announce that the horse sales in our city will be continued. In settling up the affairs of the company for the season, Mr. Abe Boch has taken charge of the company’s barn and he has decided to hold a series of commission sales during the fall, beginning the first Friday in August at the barn dn First street. These sales will be strictly commission sales of horses, buggies, harness and in fact anything used on the farm. Mr. Boch will own no horses, but only consigned horses will be sold and any farmer or dealer will be welcome to send a horse in to this sale and a square deal will be assured to all. In order that any one having a horse to sell may feel free to consign his horse to this sale, ho commission will be charged unless the horse is sold. For the opening sale on Friday, August 7th, Mr. Boch has been assured that a number of eastern dealers will be present and It will be a splendid opportunity for farmers with surplus horses on hand to sell the same at their home market Provision will be made for winding and hitching each horse sold and every effort will be used to protect the interests of those who bring horses in to this sale. A charge of tljree dollars per head commission will be made for each horse sold and one dollar for each buggy or other article. Mr. Boch has been one of the active members of the Decatur Horse Sale company since its beginning and he has a large acquaintance among eastern dealers and assurance is given that his wide experience will be at the service of each farmer sending a horse to this sale in getting the high dollar for his horse.
