Joe Wnteregg of Berne, who was a business visitor here during the forepart of the day, returned at noon to his home. Mrs. Churney of Fort Wayne passed through the city this morning on her way home from Portland, where she was visiting with her nephew, Rev. Father Travers. Mrs. D. M. Hensley and daughters, Veda and Leah, and Mrs. Fred LaDelle and daughters. Mildred and Hazel. went to Fort Wayne this morning. They were joined later by Messrs. Hensley and LaDelle and attended the Elks’ mardi gras.

Mrs. Charles Colter spent the day in Fort Wayne. Henry Stewart of Huntington was a business caller in Decatur today. Mrs. Glen Glancey of Monroe was shopping here this morning. Mrs. Shafer Peterson is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Major, at Fort Wayne. Mrs. Andrew Moyer and children went to Fort Wayne this morning for a visit with friends. Mrs. C. D. Dumghan and daughter, Vera, went to Fort Wayne this morning for a visit with her mother. Mrs. E. W. Johnson and daughter, of Monroe, were here today visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cris Weldy. Sam Bfolenbacker of .Willshire was among the business callers here yesterday, and left last evening for his home. Mrs. Thomas Weller and babe of Portland, who have been the guests of her sister, Mrs. J. D. Reiter, for the past week, left today for their home. Mr. and Mrs. James Hendricks, sr., of Monroe, have returned home, they having been here last evening looking after some business maters and oinerwise making a visit with friends. Dr. McOscar of Fort Wayne was here today on professional business. Mrs. John D. Reiter and sou, Rich ard, left today for Fort Wayne to be the guests of friends during the closing day of the Elks’ annual convention.

Mrs. Kate Thompson spent the day with Fort Wayne friends. Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Woods were Fort Wayne callers today. Miss Fannie Heller visited with friends In Monmouth today. Adam Buetell, wife and daughter made a trip to Fort Wayne today. Stella Kuntz and Esther Thomas of Geneva were shoppers here today. Sherman Beery and Bob Melbers went to Fort Wayne to spend the day. Jesse Helm is at Fort Wayne a couple of days attending the Elks’ mardi gras. Miss Ella Meyers went to Fort Wayne this morning for a visit with friends. Mrs. Sarah Cowan of Bobo has gone to St. Paris, Ohio, to make a visit with friends. Miss Marie Patterson and Mrs. E B. Adams spent yesterday afternoon in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Tom Weller returned this morning to Portland after a visit here with her sister, Mrs. John Reiter. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Weaver, Mrs. George Steele and daughter. eJanette, were Fort Wayne visitors today. Bertha Voglewede, Ada Deininger and Rose Conter were among the many who went to Fort Wayne to attend the big parade to be given this evening. Mrs. Herman Wefel and daughters. Aldine and Justine, and Louise, and her brother, Louis Kicpfenstine, of Preble, changed cars here this morning on their way to Fart Wayne. A baby girl has been born to Mr. and Mrs. Gust Gallmeier of St. John's. John Weber, sr. of Fort Wayne was a business visitor here yesterday, being an attendant at the horse sale. Mrs. C. S. Clark and daughter, Jeanette, and Mrs. Joseph Tonnelier have gone to Rome City to spend a week or so. At present they are having their cottage remodeled and will have things straightened out ready for the summer pleasure oeeners. Mrs. Peter Gaffer went to Fort Wayne this morning for a few deys' visit with Mesdames M. E. Smith. Fred Snyder and Michael Gaffer. Her mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Gaffer, better known as "Grandma Gaffer,” will accompany her here to visit until over Decoration day. Kenneth Neptune, who has been taking a course in the military academy at Sweetwater, Tenn., for the past nine months, arrived home today for a several months' visit. Kenneth bears the southern color, it having agreed with him in excellent style, and he also liked his schooling very much. Mrs. James Stewart of Monroeville, who has been at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mumma since September, 191(1 has returned to her home. She was accompanied by her husband, who took her home with a horse and buggy. It is reported that she stood the trip verywell considering her condition. Joseph Colchin, an employee of the Pennsylvania shops, who some weeks ago met with quite a painful accident it being necessary for him to be taken to the 'St. Joseph hospital for treatment, is improving rapidly and it is thought that he will be ready to return to his work in a week or ten days. o ■ ■ — ABOUT JTHE SICK. Adella, fourteen-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Ewel of Preble township, underwent an operation this morning for appendicitis.

from which she has been a sufferer since last March. The operation was performed by the Drs. Clark, assisted by Dr. McOscar of Fort Wayne. In itself the operation was a success, but several days will be needed before much encouragement can be given to her relatives and friends. Miss Emma Terveer still continues to improve and her condition is now becoming more encouraging and hopes for her recovery are more confidently believed. She is taking a little nourishment and her fever Is more near the normal stand than several days previous. Mrs. J. E. Gresiey of Hoagland is gaining strength each day, and although her recovery is somewhat slow, She will regain her strength more speedily from now on. That Mr. Ellis Will now recover to his former good health is becoming a more realized fact with the betterment of his condition shown each day. Thursday and today he was able to be up and around so as to witness the various Elks’ parades and is feeling much stronger. It is thought that in ten days or something near that time he will be allowed to return home.
