P. K. Kinney was looking after real estate business at Geneva today. Ben Garard of Auburn spent Sunday here with friends, returning to Auburn this morning. W. H. Fledderjohann le[t today for Richmond to look after business interests for a few days. Bert Segur arrived Saturday aftnoon from Angola for a visit with his father, Harvey Segur. John Schug was a business transactor at Berne today and from there left on his regular weekly trip. Chauncey Lautzenheiser of Berne was in the city today looking after business matters, which required his attention. Clem Heideman, who spent Sunday here with his mother left this morning Tor his place of business at; Geneva. John Reiter left today for Portland to resume his work on his regular trip after an over Sunday visit here with his family. The Misses Bessie and Nora Weber, returned last evening from a week’s visit with the C. Scherger family at Delphos, Ohio.

Helen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Shroll, is sick with the measles. Miss Jennie Ernst of Peterson will spend the week as the guest of her cousin, Mrs. Herbert Lachot. Mr. and Mrs. Will Shoemaker and daughter, Mary, went to Ft. Wayne Saturday afternoon for an over-Sun-day visit with relatives. “Mother’s Day," which comes the second Sunday in May, will be observed on Friday, May 12th, in the public schools of Indiana. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hanna returned yesterday to their home in Fort Wayne after a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schultz. Mrs. Alex Bowser and Miss Jennie Bowser returned to Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon after being the guest of Mrs. Florence DeVllbiss. Charles Foughty returned Saturday afternoon to Bluffton, going by way of Fort Wayne on the 4 o’clock car, after attending court here. Miss Irene Evans was in the city Saturday afternoon for the first tin.e after a month’s illness with measles, tonsilitis and other complications. Miss Ora Hospinson of Geneva, who was in the city to take part in the contest here, was the guest of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Snow. Mrs. Frank Moore of Missouri was in the city over Sunday visiting with Al Burdg and family. She will go from here to Bluffton to visit relatives. N. I. .Kiracot'e of Wren. Ohio, was here Saturday on business, his son, John, of the Smith & Bell office accompanying him home for an overSunday visit. Mrs. Ben Johnson returned to her home at Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon after spending the day here with her son, W. G. Kist. They are planning to come to this city to make their home. Misses Ada, Loretta ad Della Whiteneck, West High street, went to Ridgeville on the afternoon train Saturday to spend Sunday with their mother, Mrs. Martha Whtteneck — Portland Review. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ervin of Delphos, Ohio, who just last W'eek were united in marriage at that place, were in the city Sunday for a short stay with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ervin. They left today for their home and will go to housekeeping at once. Oliver Schug of the traction office was at Fort Wayne today making arrangemeqjs fur the special excursion rates to be run by this road Thursday, Friday and Saturday to Fort Wayne on account of the Ben Hur production at the Majestic theater. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. McCrory will return the first of the week from Van Wert, Ohie. where they were called Friday evening by the illness of Mr McCrory’s mother, Mrs. Samuel McCrory, aged eightynwo, who is suffering from heart trouble, but who is nr»v better. Mrs. Philip Brinneman went to Decatur this morning, where she will visit for a few days at the home of her son, Jesse Brinneman, and family. Several members of the Brinneman family are confined to their home in Decatur on account of illness.—Bluffton News. A letter received by D. N. Erwin from his wife states that she has visited With both her brother, Fred Falk and family at Jonesboro, Ark., and with her sister, Mrs. Horace Callow, and family at West Plains, Mo., and found them all much better. Members of both families having been ill. Friday waS a big day at Decatur, where file schools of' Berne, Geneva and Decatur held a musical and literary contest. There was a big crowd in the town. Prof. Lee I>. Driver of thia City acted as judge of the Jiterary contest, and Prof. Albert Holsworth of Fort Wayne was judge of the musle. Both judges, according ts the Decatur papers, gave excellent satisfaction.—Winchester Hehald. Trix, a little pet dog belonging to John Stewart and family, the boon companion of little Meredith Stewart, and so frequent a visitor at this of-; flee that he nearly become the mascot, is dead. He had the habit of running out,to bark at motorcycles as they passed, and thereby met his fate Sunday, being struck by a motorcycle driven by a young man from Berne as he passed through here. The dog was so badly injured that he was afterward chloroformed to end his misery. When the motorcycle struck the dag. the driver was thrown from his seat and rolled some twenty or thlry feet, but he was not apparently hurt, as he resumed his way. He had evidently forgotten that there is a speechlimit in Decatur as he was going at least thirty miles an hour when he struck the dog.

Ed Meyars of Fort Wayne was in the city over Sunday as the guest of his mother, Mrs. Mary Meyers, south of the city. ,Leo Scherer returned this morning to his studies at the Fort Wayne business college after a visit with his parents at Monroe. Henry Gerke went to Berne yesterday to accompany his wife and son home from that place, where they had been visiting with her parents. Mrs. Robert Boyles and daughter, Dorothy, returned to Fort Wayne this morning after a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Barkley. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ervin, whose marriage occurjed last week at Delphos, Ohio, are here for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ervin. The Misses Lulu and Lottie Summers of Ossian have been visiting their cousin, Mrs. J. C. Sutton. Miss Lulu returned "home today and Miss Lottie will remain for a linger visit. The funeral of Frederick Joseph, little son of Mr. and Mrs. John Falk, which was held at 2:30 o’clock from the home Sunday afternoon, was well attended, many from out of the city being in attendance. Mrs. Harvey Harruff and daughter. Opal, left this morning for their future home at Fremont, Mich., Mr Harruff having left last week with the househould goods, which he will have arranged for their reception. Miss Della Harruff, who is a stenographer and bookkeeper for Krick & Tyndall, will remian here. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schroeder of St. Johns celebrated their twentieth or china wedding yesterday, inviting their brother and sisters and families to join with them Sunay afternoon and evening, a 6 o’clock dinner being one of the features of the entertainment. Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder were the recipients of a large number of beautiful china dishes as gifts. Those from this city who attended wefe Will Zwick and family amd Henry Koenemann and family. c . — K.
