Fair tonight and Saturday. John Weber was a business caller at Berne today. Mrs. John Mayer of Monroe was a business visitor here yesterday. The Misses Della and Goldie James of east of the city were shopping in the city today. W. J. Myers, who was at Monroe and Berne today, returned home on the afternoon train. Mrs. Nicholas Lang and children have gone to Fort Wayne to make a few days’ stay with relatives. Mrs. P. K. Kinney and daughter. Miss Marcella, who have been visiting with friends at Geneva, returned home last evening. Rev. and Mrs. Wehmeyer, who have been in attendance at the Lutheran conference held at Ft. Wayne, which was brought to a close Thursday, returned home this morning.

John Eichenberger of Berne was among those in the city today. John Joseph was among the business callers at Fort Wayne today. Mrs. Herman Bultemeier returned to St. Johns yesterday afternoon on the 4 o’clock car after shopping here. Mrs. Nancy Sheets and family have moved from Jefferson street to the Jacob Ata property on Nbrth Third street. Miss Pearl Baumgarter has arrived in the city and will be the guest of Miss Genevieve Bremerkamp for several days. Haward Shackley was at Williams this morning looking after some busi ness affairs, returning home on the afternoon train. Mrs. F. W. Droege returned yesterday afternoon on the 4 o’clock car to St. John’s after shopping here during the afternoon. Miss Letta Lang will go to Chicago Sunday to meet Miss Louise Hobrock, who is to return from a several months’ stay in Los Angeles, Caf. Both young ladies will spend several days in Chicago before returning here.
Miss Midge Smith spent the day In Fort Wayne. R. Schug of Berne was a business visitor here today. Miss Andrews of Monroe is here for an over-Sunday visit with Miss Carrie Gallogly. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bohner of Pleasant Mills have gone to Sturgis, Mich., for a visit with relatives. Kathleen, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James P. Haefllng, is very sick with fever, and necessitates her ab sence from school. Miss Marcella Kinney Is quite sick, suffering with high rever and other complaints, which are keeping her closely coined to her home. Bernard Terveer, who was quite sick late Wednesday afternoon and evening, was some better today and able to be at the old Adams County bank. A fine residence property on Adams street, near Fourth street, will be sold by John C. Moran at commissioner's sale at the east door of the court house tomorrow, beginning at 10 o’clock. It is a fine property, brick street and cement sidewalks. All paid. It will be sold cheap. John Aeschleman and Godfrey Rauch, sr., of near Berne left today for Switzerland. They were accompanied by Misses Ida and Umma Lehman of that place, who will remain wtih their mother in that country. They will sail from New York on the 25th. An interesting marriage occurred at Kalamazoo, Mich., on Monday of this week, when Jessie May Barrey of 2421 Miner street, this city, who secured a divorce from her husband on Monday of this week, was united to Guy Smith of Kingsland, Ind., whose wife was one of the victims of the Kingsland wreck on September 21st. —Fort Wayne News. R. S. Todd and family are moving today from West Wabash street to their Market street residence. Mr. Todd some time ago bought the old Todd home property from H. A. Bennett. Grover Spitler, of the firm of Spitler Brothers, has rented the Swaim house vacated by Mr. Todd and family.—Bluffton News. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Shaffer left this morning for Decatur where they will make their future home. The household goods of Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer were shipped today to Decatur. Mr. Shaffer is working as general freight and passenger agent of the Fort Wayne & Springfield inter urban line. —Bluffton News. Today was propotion day at the St. Joseph schools and the many students of the various rooms were changed and advanced one step higher from the ranks which they have been studying during the past year. This promotion always follows the written examination which occurs in the spring under the supervision of the Rev. E. A. LaFountain, who is in charge of the schools of the Fort W’ayne diocese, and who conducted the examination here several weeks ago.

Dr. Raymond Knoff was a business caller In the city this morning. Gay, Zwlck & Myers delivered a load of fine furniture to Root township this morning. Charles, little son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Keller, has nearly, though not completely recovered from the attack of pneumonia, from which he was a severe sufferer. Owing to the high school doings today Decatur witnessed one of the largest gatherings of school children on the streets for some time. Berne and Geneva, who took part In the contests, were well represented and cgme down on the early train with large delegations. They were cared for during the day by the local pupils and the happy day was one long to be remembered. H. H. Harruff left this morning for Fremont, Mich., where he will make his home. The Harruff family will leave on Monday and their household goods have already been shipped to their destination and will be there upon their arrival, and will be cared for by Mr. Harruff. They will remain during the summer months and while gone Mr. Harruffs business will be cared for by his son, Orval. Jacob Hunsicker, a well known citizen of Berne, died Tuesday afternoon and the funeral was held Thursday from the Berne Reformed church. He was fifty-four years old. He was injured In a runaway accident two years ago, from which he never fully recovered. I-ast week he was stricken with lagrippe, which was followed by pneumonia and paralysis, death resulting. He was well known over the county. The, council meeting of the Adams county Sunday School association was held at Berne Tuesday, when reports of the officers were heard. An effort will be made to take a delegation to the state convention at Fort Wayne June 8-11. A meeting of pastors and officers will be held at Decatur soon to arrange for the Fourth of July picnic for the north half of the county and a similar meeting will be held at Geneva for a picnic for the south half of the county. The Washington township convention will be held May 14th and other conventions as follows: Jefferson, May 7th; Wabash, May 14th; St. Mary’s, May 21st; Preble and Kirkland, May 21st; Union and Root, May 28th; French and Hartford, May 28th; Monroe, June 4th, and Blue Creek, June 4th. -o NOTICE TO TRESPASSERS. WERE THEY ASSESSED? (United Press Service.) Indianapolis. Ind., April 21 —(Specto Daily Democrat)—An investigation into the expenditure of money, said to have been collected from the township assessors to aid in the passage of a bill to increase their salaries, at the late legislature, appeared possible today, following charges made by D. H. Hull of Laporte, who says all the assessors and their deputies in the state were assessed and between $4,000 and $5,000 was thus raised and sent to James E. Berry of Indianapolis. The law is very strict and will be observed. No receipts will be laid away and all not paid on or before the last day the penalty of ten per cent will be added.
