The trustees of the school city ol Decatur, Adams county, Indiana, hereby give notice that the said Board proposes to <ncur an indebtedness in the aggregate sum of twenty-eight thousand ($28,000,001 dollars for the purpose of remodeling the Central school building, installing therein a ventilation and lighting system, and for the purpose of purchasing inlot No. 103 in the original plat of the town (now city) of Decatur, Adams county, Indiana, and for the purpose of erecting a two-story brick school building, forty-four (44) feet in width and sixty (60) feet in length, two stories in height, with stone foundation, and equipping the same with seats and other necessary equipments and for the purpose of erecting a boiler house, and the purchasing of a boiler for heating said school house. Said improvement and building is proposed to be made and built on inlots Nos. 101, 102, 109, 110, 111 in the original plat or the town( now city) of Decatur, Adams county, Indiana, and inlot No. 103, sought to be purchased as hereinbefore described. It is proposed to issue bonds' against the school city for the purpose of obtaining money to pay for the purchasing of said lot, and the making of said improvements hereinbefore mentioned. The week’s vacation which the pupils of the city schools enjoyed the ' past week, is over, and nearly all re-' turned again to their school duty. The many who were forced to miss several weeks on account of the measles, have nearly all recovered and there are very few- vacant seats on this account. An item in the social columns of the Chicago papers caused quite a sensation among the fair sex of Decatur inasmuch as it announced the engagement of one of the most popular young men of Decatur of several years ago—Gus Rosenthal—who for many years was engaged in the clothing business in this city. The announcement is as follows “Mrs. Charles J. Miers of 4331 Calumet avenue announces the engagement of her daughter, Hannah, to. Gustav Rosenthal of Boscobel, Wis.” .

The Decatur teachers, who attended the Northern Indiana Teachers' association at Indianapolis the latter part of last week, were entertained at a luncheon by Dr. and Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith was Miss Nellie Schrock of this city before her marriage. Mr. and Mrs. George Henneford had as their guests at 6 o’clock dinner Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Will Lyman and son, Damon, of Indianapolis. Chester Johnson was the victim of a well executed surprise Monday, given at his home on Fourth street by a host of friends in honor of his twenty-seventh birthday anniversary. A big dinner at noon was one of the features of the celebration. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Cording of east of the city were entertained Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. David Liby of near Preble. The Union Chapel Ladies’ Aid society will spend a delightful day Thursday at the home of Mrs. BenPillars, this being an all-day session.
