WERE ROUNDED UP Tangible Evidence of Laman & Lee Burglary Catches Straub Boys IN ITS MESHES Bound Over to Court—Another One Wanted For Receiving Goods. Tangible evidence, at last run down, in the matter of the burglarizing of the Laman & Lee hardware store last October Ist, has so enmeshed Harry Straub—who at that time was held on suspicion of the burglary, but later released from custody for lack of substantial evidence —and his brother, Charles, that a regular affidavit, charging them with burglary, was made against them by Sephus Melchi, night policeman, and the two boys were given a preliminary hearing today before Mayor Teeple, who bound them over to circuit, court under two hundred dollars’ bond each. The trial began this morning and was concluded at about 1:30 o’clock this aftemoot, R. C. Parrish, prosecutting attorney, handling the state’s side of the question. About ten or fifteen witnesses were examined, and much incriminating evidence introduced by the state’s witnesses. A strong point against Straub was a cut finger, which appeared on his hand the day after the burglary, and which it was supposed was received by
smashing the widow glass in forcing I entrance, and which also it Is supposed left the trail of blood leading I to the cash register. Jerry Burkhead, ’to whom it is said Straub confessed, was also a witness. Charles furnished bond this afternoon and Harry 1 will also probably do so. i Another Decatur young man. now out .of the cit, is also implicated, the 'affidavit against him being made in Dunkirk, is also implicated, the affidavit against him being made in the Adams circuit court, charging him with receiving gcods stolen from the hardware store by the Straubs, and which consisted of three revolvers, six l pen-knives and some money, all being of about sls in value. This affidavit was also made by Sephus Melchi, night policeman. Arrest will follow. o - - — ALUMINUM SAMPLES. John Brock this morning received samples from the Cooking Utensil I company in Pittsburg, Pa., showing how the aluminum ware sor K which he is the agent, is obtained and the process it undergoes before it is in metal form. It is mined in Arkansas and taken from the ground in chunks. From the mine it is sent to the factory at East St. Louis, where it is put through a powdered form. The third and last change is when it is put through an electrical process and formed into the metal as seen upon the market. o Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is a very valuable medicine for throat and lung troubles, quickly relieves and cures painful breathing and a dangerously sounding cough which indicates DEMOCRAT WANT ADS’ PAY BIG
