Ben Devor made a business trip to Marion yesterday in the interests of Smith and Bell. Mrs. Dallas Hunsicker left today for a few days’ visit with her sister at Winchester and her brother at Geneva. Mrs. E. H. Shoemaker and daughter, Gretel, will leave tomorrow for Marion to spend Sunday the guests of relatives. Mrs. O. N. Snellen and daughter. Mrs. Gilbert Jack and son of Wilshire, Ohio, were shoppers in the cityyesterday. Herb Lachot is home from Indianapolis, where he has been for the past several days, taking the examination in pharmacy. Mrs. Tom Andrews and children have returned from a visit with her uncle, George Dutcher, and family in Root township. Rev. E. R. Roop of Willshire, 0., stopped off in this city yesterday enroute home from the convention held at Kendallville. Mrs. Levi Barkley left yesterday afternoon for Fort Wayne where she will be the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Boyles. Mrs. C. G. Kistler returned today to her home in Chicago Junction, Ohio, after a visit with her grandfather, John Shosenburg. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Straub of Fort Wayne were in the city for a short while today enroute to Peterson for a visit with his parents. Miss Agnes Dutcher, one of the telephone girls, is off duty on account of sickness. She is threatened with an attack of typhoid malaria. Pat Wilhelm is in Indianapolis and Terre Haute on business this week, seeking a location with the expectation of removing his family there to reside. Mr. and Mrs. John Abnet of near Berne stopped off in the city this morning for a short while enroute to Fort Wayne to attend the W. C. T. U. convention.. Miss Nettie Gast has returned to her home at Celina, Ohio, after a visit here with the William Harting fam. ily. Miss Jennie will remain for a longer visit. Congressman J. A. M. Adair continues to gain strength from his recent attack of typhoid fever and believes he will be able to be out within a week or ten days and hopes to devote a week or two to campaigning.— Portland Sun. The Hattie Studabaker residence on South Third street, which has been under course of remodeling for a week or so, is moving along nicely and will be completed in a few weeks. A number of improvements are being made, which will make it a modern home. St. Mary’s township Sunday school convention, which was announced to occur at the Calvary Evangelical church October 16th, has been postponed until October 30th. At that time two sessions will be held, afternoon and evening, and all are invited to attend. Alfred Sieve of Lincoln, Nebraska, to whom a second call was extended to serve as teacher at the parochial schools of the Bleeke Lutheran congregation, has also declined this call and the- congregation will meet next Sunday to make further arrangements for the securing of a teacher. L. L. Gilpen, who is taking a month's vacation from his duties as United States Express agent, went to Decatur Thursday to visit over night with his sister, Mrs. Sarah Merriman. Friday he will continue his trip to Chicago to spend a week or so with his son, Garth Gilpen, and family.— Portland Sun. Fred Strohm. the tailor, this afternoon left for Adams county, in response to a message informing him of the dangerous illness of his brother, Louis, a former Bluffton resident. His brother, who lives on a farm four miles east of Vera cruz. has been ill several weeks, suffering from astnma and complications. Mr. Strohm was notified to come at once if he wanted to see his brother alive, and he left this city on the 2 o'clock car over the B. G. & C. —Bluffton News.

Mrs. Charles Wentworth of Cincinnati, Ohio, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. George Flanders. C. I. Golder has returned to his home at Huntington after looking after business matters here. M. L. Klsey of Elkhart changed cars here this morning on his way to Geneva for a visit with relatives# Mrs. Joseph Beatty returned yesterday afternoon to her home in Roanoke after attending the funeral of a relative, Mrs. Jacob Buhler. Mrs. Sarah Mercer of Bingen is the guest this week of Mrs. F. C. Hoeneisen and attending the evangelistic services at the Christian church. George Cline left thia- morning for Silver Lake, where he will visit with his son, Jacob D. Cline, who is principal of the schools at Silver Lake. Mrs. Wesley Hoffman and daughter, Margaret Jane, left yesterday afternoon for a few days’ visit with her sister, Mrs. Frank Kern in Fort Wayne. Mrs. James Stewart of Monroeville, formerly Miss Josie Murnrna, who has Iteen very sick with typhoid fever, is somewhat improved, though her recovery is very slow. Mrs. Elwln Goshhorn and children and Milton Chalfant of Ossian will spend Sunday with the G. C. Steele and C. J. Weaver families. Mrs. Goshorn was formerly Miss Darlene Carr of this city. Mrs. Charles Simms and children returned yesterday afternoon to their home of her brother-in-law, Jacob Buhler and tamily. They were called here by the illness and death of Mrs. Buhler. Mrs. Julia Moses and daughter, Annette, are removing from Third street to the Catharine Mellin house at 226 South Fourth street. They expect to be comfortably at home at the new place by the close of the week. Dr. Perry Ferry of Akron, stopped off here yesterday Ilor a short while the guest of Cal Peterson. Dr. Ferry formerly lived at Preble, and is a graduate of the Decatur high school having many friends here with whom he renewed old associations yesterday. He is engaged in the practice of medicine at Akron, Indiana. Rev. C. G. Reynolds of Asheville, N. C., stopped off in the city over night the guest o f his mother-in-law, Mrs. Victoria Hill, and his brother-in-law, Fred Mills, and family. Rev. Reynolds was enroute home from Chicago, where he had been on business. He left today noon for Cincinnati, Ohio, before returning home. Mr. Bell of the LaFontaine Handle company is bringing his household goods to this city from LaFontaine and will occupy the Niblick cottage vacated by Mrs. Moses, while Mr. Beik also of the Handle company will occupy the Hattie Studabaker home recently vacated by Henry Peters and family on Third street Mrs. Jeff Bryson and daughter. Miss Frances, North Pleasant street returned home Thursday afternoon from Decatur, where Wednesday afternoon they attended the wedding of the former’s niece, Miss Fanny Robison, and Forest Elzey. Mr. and Mrs. Elzey passed through this city Thursday afternoon enroute to Chicago and other places on a wedding trip after which they will return to Decatur to reside. —Portland Sun.
