The Speed Records of Today and Yesterday, Three years ago on the occasion of Oldfields last visit to Fort Wayne, the speed king was at the wheel of the famous green Dragon. The best this car could do on the local track was a mile in 55 and a fraction seconds. As an indication of the wonderful improvement in the racing cars in the last few years, the following list of world’s records as they were three years ago and as they are today, show the rapid strides made by the manufacturers of the modern creations: 1907. Orman Beach, Florida. One mile, 28 2-5 seconds; Marriott; Stanley Steamer. 1910. One mile, 27.22 seconds; Oldfield; Benz, r - Mile Tracks. ’’A' 1907, One mile. 55 Seconds; Oldfield, Green Dragon; Los Angeles. Five mile, 4 minutes, 31 seconds; Oldfield; Green Dragon; Los Angeles. Fifteen miles. 14 minutes, 7 seconds; Oldfield; Denver. Twenty-five miles. 23 minutes. 42 seconds; Green Dragon: Denver. Fifty miles, 48 minutes, 27 seconds; Oldfield: Green Dragon; Denver. 1910. One mile, 49 1-5 seconds: Oldfield; Benz: St. Paul. Five miles, 4 minutes 24 1-5 seconds; Oldfield; Benz; Los Angeles. Fifteen miles, 14 minutes, 7 seconds; Oldfield; Benz; Los Angeles. Twenty-five miles, 22 minutes. 14 1-5 seconds; Oldfield: Benz: Dallas. Tex. Fifty miles. 47 minutes. 22 1-2 seconds; Oldfield; Benz; Dallas, Tex. For instance the difference in the records tor a mile in three years on a mile track is almost four seconds: at that speed, equal to 400 feet per mile faster than the old record. What this means can only be appreciated by those present when the old mile record of 55 seconds was established. The speed king's great car has so much power that he has been known to pick up, while going at the rate of forty miles an hour, to a rate of one hundred miles an hour on the straight away. The Fort Wayne track record is 56 seconds for a mile, and it is safe to say that Oodfield would defeat in one mile by 500 feet the car which made the old mark. Barney’s Mile records this year have been as follows: San Francisco —Fifty-one seconds. Denver —Fifty-one and two-fifths seconds. Kansas City—Fifty-two seconds. St. Raul—Forty-nine and one-fifth seconds. Chicago—Fifty-one seconds. Columbus —Fifty seconds. Hartford —Fifty-one and one-filth seconds. Manager Walter Hetnpe! has inspected the Fort Wayne fair grounds track and after arranging with Secretary Streider of the Fair association for a thorough overhauling of the track surface, expects the speed king to at least duplicate the wonderful performances made on every track this year. The speed carnival is scheduled for next Monday afternoon and will start promptly at 2:30 o’clock. There will be ten big events and a program that will be hard to surpass will be given. Miss Railing of Michigan is visiting with Mrs. Minnie Crabll. Fred Schaub has returned from a trip to Greenville and Union City. Mrs. Magdeline Bremerkamp, who has been in a serious condition for the past two days, is reported as being some better.
ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED. Tomorrow Will boa Happy Time For Fuelling Church. Arrangements have been completed by the pastor, Rev. Dornsief, for the Mission Festival which is to be held at the Fuelling church tomorrow. Wehmeyer of this city will deliver the addresses for the two services, one in the morning and the other in the evening, and those who attend are sure to be pleased. After the church services the remainder of the day will be devoted to pleasure in the Herman Gerke grove, which Is located a short distance from the church. Refreshments will be served, such as are usually to be had on occasions of this kind and all are invited to be present.
