Harry and Ireta Steward of near wren, Ohio, transferred here Saturday morning on 'heir way to Fort Wayne. Fred Herran, demonstrator for the Buick automobile at Laman & Lee's hardware stor?, left for Indianapolis Saturday. Rev. and Mrs. Imler went to the Mt. Pleasant picnic Saturday morning "to eat chicken," as the reverend expressed it. Mrs. B. Michaud and Mr. and Mrs. Elsie Brodbeck of Troy, Ohio, left this morning for Bluffton for a visit wieh friends. Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Miss May Rose of Hartford City, who has been the guest of Miss Osa Cowan over Sunday, left this morning for her home. Mrs. I. Porter and sons spent Sunday in the city with Rev. and Mrs. I. Imler and returned this morning to their home at Bluffton. Miss Fern Hendricks of Montpelier has returned to her home after a pleasant visit here as the guest of Miss Ruth Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. Med Miller and daughter, Elizabeth, left yesterday for Tiffin, Ohio, where they will make a few days’ visit with friends. J. W. McCrea and family, James Wheeler and family left Geneva Fiiday in their automobiles for a day's outing at Long Lake, lnd. Miss Kate Hammel of Decatur came Saturday to spend Sunday with her sister, Mrs. C. B. Smith, of South Meridian street. —Portland Sun. Mrs. J. W. Oscar Hoffman left for Newcastle this morning to look after the work pertaining to the new school house is being edected there by his father, Fred Hoffman. Elgin King, who for several montns past has been playing for a large theater at Saginaw, Mich., arrived home last Saturday evening and will remain here until after the fair. Mrs. Scott Brockover, who has been visiting in the city, and w'hose home is at Riley, Ohio, and Miss Nellie Blackburn went to Fort Wayne Saturday morning for a visit with friends. Mr. Ferguson of Elwood arrived Saturday. He is taking Ray Siegfried's place in the telegraph office of the Ohio Oil company at Preble, while Mr. Siegfried is on a two weeks’ vacation. Miss Anna Clark, stenographer and bookkeeper for the Decatur Automobile company, is taking a two weeks' vacation. While absent Miss Celesta Wemhoff will care for her work abo it the office. J. C. Houk and family of Marshall street left this morning over the Clover Leaf for Cedar Point, Ohio, where Mr. Houk intends attending the annual meeting of the National Hay association, which convenes at that place August 23rd, 24th and 25th. Mrs. John D. Hale, who, it was reported, was seriously iil at Rome City, came home Sunday evening with Mr. Hale, who had gone up to spend the day. Mrs. Hale's condition is not serious, but she has been bothered for a few days with asthma symptoms.

Verda Bingham of Fort Wayne is visiting with Miss Bessie Jeffries. Harold Crawford and Roman Barthol of Fort Wayne are visiting in the city. Mrs. Charles Archbold of Cleveland, Ohio, is in the city visiting with friends. Miss Lucy Jahn of Peterson went tj Bluffton this morning for a visit with friends. John Hessier, who is a patient at Kneipp sanitarium, Rome City, is getting along nicely. Chalmer Hower returned from Muncie this morning, where he has been visiting with his sister. Miss Emma Giilig is back at her duties at the Old Adams county bank after a two weeks’ vacation. Miss Leota Bailey returned to Marion Sunday night to resume her studies after visiting here with her mother. C. A. Dugan and family returned this afternoon after a two weeks’ stay at Rome City. They report a dandy time. Mrs. Dan Niblick, who has been slightly ill at Rome City, is improving according to the latest word from that place. Omer, Mildred and Harold Niblick were at Rome City Sunday, where they spent the day with their mother, who is sick at that place. Mr. and Mrs. Prank Kern and son, Palmer, of Fort Wayne arrived in the city for a visit with his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Kern, just east of the city. Decatur people who went to Toledo Sunday on the excursion report a narrow escape coming home. The train was dashing along at a good speed when the engineer noticed a horse fastened in a cattle guard. He managed to stop the train just in time to avoid being ditched. An hour and a half was required to remove the animal, and the train did not arrive here I until 12 o’clock. I

Mrs. J. S. Jeterson and childreu have returned to Rome City lor a two weeks’ stay. W. H. Fledderjohann was an overSunday visitor with his family, who are enjoying an outing at Rome City. Miss Fern Hendricks went to Marion, Ind., this morning and will visit with relatives and friends for several weeks. Among the Decatur people at Rome City Sunday were Ben Smith, Dr. D. Clark, Dan Niblick, E. X. Ehinger, Jesse Niblick and a number of others. Harry Helm and family are cottaged at Rome City, where they will enjoy themselves for a week, while Harry is resting from his duties at the Holthouse, Schulte & Co. store. Albion Smith, who has been taking treatment at Rome City for three weeks past, is considerably better. He is able to be about and expects to come home this week some time. Miss Laura Everett of Barker Creek, Mich., returned home Sunday after a pleasant visit with relatives here. She was accompanied as far as Toledo b.i Mr. Calvin Peterson and Miss Ina Everett.
