Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Urich have gone to Geneva for a several days’ visit with friends. Amos Hirschy of Berne passed tluough the city yesterday afternoon enroute to Fort Wayne. George Limecooly of Schumm. Ohio, transferred here yesterday afternoon enroute to Fort Wayne. P. G. Williams made his usual trip to Geneva, having charge of the Moser studio during the day. Miss Mayme Cloud of the BowersNiblick company is enjoying a vacation this week and next. Mrs. Eliza Elzey and grandchildren, Gladys and Beatrice Chronister, were guests of friends at Berne today. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Wolford returned to their home at Fort Wayne aft r a visit here with Ira Elzey and family. Mr. and Mrs. James Deffenbaugh of Geneva left today for their home after spending some time with relatives here. Frank Shoemaker has returned from a tour of the west and is cisit ing with his mother, Mrs. Anna Shoemaker. The Misses Fanny and Jessie Magley will leave the first of the week for Toledo, thence to Detroit by boat, spending a week in Detroit and vicinity. Miss Flora Sayrust of Urbana, who for the last few days has been visiting with friends here, left today for Geneva, wheie she will also be the guest of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Nichols and daughter, Nellie, Mrs. Dan Beery and son and Frank Chronister are among the Decatur people who have returned from a visit at Rome City. The Rev. Powell of the Methodist church, who is away on his vacation, has arranged for the usual Sunday services during his absence. The Rev. C. B. Sweeney will preach in the morning and the Rev. J. L. Mershon in the evening.

Miss Martha Bultemeier of St. Johns was shopping here yesterday. Mrs. Merton Abel and children of Ludington, Mich., who have been visiting here, returned home yesterday. Chris Strebe has gone to Auburn for an over Sunday visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Strebe. Fred Bause of Toledo arrived in the city today for an over-Sunday visit with Mr. and Mrs. Wilda Watts. Henry and Dan Scherry went to Ft. Wayne this morning, where they were taking treatment for their eyes. Mrs. Fred Patterson has gone to Terre Haute for a three weeks' stay with her mother, Mrs. S. A. King. T. M. Baker and wife of St. Louis, Mo., who have been visiting relatives here, went to Fort Wayne yesterday. Miss Margaret Dorwin has returned to her home at Indianapolis after a visit with her brother, C. U. Dorwin. Mrs. Lucy Fry arrived from Chicago Saturday for a visit with her sister, Miss Mattie Young, and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. U. Deininger returned yesterday from a visit with their daughter, Mrs. E. H. Kilbourne, at Fort Wayne. » Alva Nichols and Henry Gerke and families, who are enjoying an outing at Rome City, send home reports of thoroughly good time.
Miss Lucy Barnes, who has been visiting at the John Stewart home the past three weeks, returned to her home at Huntington today. Miss Harriet Hill of Salem, Mass , is here for a visit with Miss Margaret Daniels. She will also visit with her cousin. Miss Sarah Segur, and other relatives at Angola before returning home. Miss Marie Tonnellier has gone to Fort Wayne, where she has accepted a position as bookkeeper and stenographer for the Wayne Tobacco company in the absence of Miss Florence Olinger. Miss Stella Kohne writes interestingly of her school work in the con vent of the Sisters of St. Agnes at Fond du Lac, Wis. She does not begin her study ’course, however, until September Ist. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brown and children left yesterday afternoon for Fort Wayne, where they will visit with her sister, Mrs. Jay Elzey. From there they will go to Tipton to be the guest of friends. Mr. and Mrs.’John Schug and children left today for Berne to make an over-Sunday visit with his brother, Ru dolph Schug. They will also be in attendance at a birthday party given this evening in honor of Mr. Schug. Mrs. F. J. Hoffman and daughter of Warren, 0., who have been visiting with her parents, left yesterday afternoon* for Detroit, Mich., where they will join her husband, who has been working there for some time. They will probably go to Detroit later to make their future home. Mrs. Arthur Fisher has returned from a week's visit with her niece, Mrs. Jennie Weldy Grossman. at Lake Maxinkuckee. Lake Maxinkuckee is located near Culver, where the well known military academy is and is a very delightful place. Mrs. Fisher enjoyed her visit very much. Donald and Robert Young arrived yesterday from cima, Ohio, to join their brothers and sisters, John and Dwight and Mary and Gretchen, in a visit with their aunt, Miss Mattie Young, in Blue Creek township. Mary and Gretehen will leave Monday for a visit with relatives in Bluffton bebore returning home. The Jay County fair has secured the famous Palorsj Brothers, extraordinary gymnasts and comedy acrobats; also the Joleen Sisters in their wire act. Both companies will give a performance in front of the grandstand each day of the fair. Grand stock parade, aeroplane and motorcycle races on the track, Wednesday only. Word has been received in the city from the Misses Nellie and Jessie Winnes and Fanny Rice, who are enjoying their vacation in the east, stating that they left Aatlantic City today for Philadelphia, remaining there until Monday, when they will go to the Niagara Falls and then on toward home, arriving here some time Wednesday evening.

Everybody loves to attend the fair and this year the many new attractions of the Huntington Countv fair that will be held at Huntington, Ind., from September 13th to litn, has so many new attractions that no one can afford to miss it. With a perfect race track, the one on which world’s records have been smashed and the fine, cool and shady grounds with plenty of good water and lots of entertaining features, the fair this year will be greater and better than any ever given. Kit Cowan of Bobo was a business caller in the city this morning. Mesdames O. P. Schug and Mose Henry spent today in Fort Wayne. Stewart Niblick and Bob Melberr were at Fort Wayne today on business. Glen Falk came home this noon from a short pleasure trip to Frankfort. Miss Margaret Moran leaves tomor row for Rome City for several weeks' vacation. Miss Anna Aademacker will leave Sunday for a two weeks' vacation at Rome City. . , . , Albert Sellemeyer, who has been the guest of friends at Warren, arrived home Friday evening. Otto Hessert went to Fort Wayne this morning, where he will be the guest of friends over Sunday. Miss Lucile Hale writes of an enjoyable visit at Lake Wawasee this week. She will return Monday. Miss Josephine Malley has gone to Celina, Ohio, to join the Misses Emma Gillig and Leona Harting in a visit there. Mrs. Anthony Voglewede, who has been taking a week’s vacation at Rome City, will return home Sunday evening. Rudolph and William Worthman of Magley transferred here this morning on their way to Fort Wayne to visit relatives. Mrs. Laura Sweeney of New Haven changed cars here today for Pleasant Mills to be the guest of friends for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ream of Fort Wayne changed cars here today on their way to Schumm, Ohio, for a visit with relatives. Mrs. Samuel Fuhrman and children of Root township were in the city this morning en route to the Union Chapel Sunday school picnic.
Walter Johnson. Lew Mailand and Wid Dorwin. who have been taking a week's vacation at Clear lake, will return home next Monday. Edith and Anthony Schreger of Delphos arrived in the city this morning for an over-Sunday visit with their cousins, Tena and Fred Schurger. Miss Elizabeth Voglewede, who has been enjoying a weeks’ vacation at the Overman cottage at Rome Citv, will return home tomorrow evening. Mrs. H. F. Callow and children and Mrs. D. N. Erwin and son, Joel, who ,have been at Winona for several weeks, returned to the city last evening. Mrs. Homer McKain and children left today for their home at Germantown, Ohio, after a pleasant visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lew Straughn, of Berne. Mrs. Frank Cobb of Marion, who has been the guest of friends here for some time, left today for Monroe, where they will also spend several days before leaving for her home. Mrs. Henry Thomas has gone to Marion, where she will join her daugflter, Portia, and Miss Angeline Firks in a visit with Mrs. Thomas' sister. Mrs. Slagal. returning home Sunday. On next Monday is the feast of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven at the St. Mary’s church, a holiday of obligation. Services on this day will be the same as on Sunday. Mr. and’ Mrs. C. H. Weyer arrived from Fort Wayne this morning and stopped here for a short while enroute to Monroe, where they will visit with William Trinn and family over Sunday. Miss Maud McLaughlin of Wichita, Kans., who has been making a seven weeks’ visit with her sister, Mrs. John Evans, left this morning for Chicago, from which place she will return home. Mr. and Mrs. William Miller and children of Addison Junction. Mich., who have been visiting with his parents, Mt. and Mrs. E. W. Miller, in this city, and other relatives at Fort Wayne, left today for their home. Mrs. Omen E. Smith, formerly Miss Nellie J. Schrock, who with her husband, Dr. Smith, left immediately after their marriage a short time ago for a honeymoon trip to California, writes of a very pleasant trip. They are no wlocated at San Francisco, where the doctor is attending a convention. They expect to be in California until September Ist, after which they will be at home at Indianapolis. The Bluffton, Geneva & Celina Traction company, a new electric line which is now building to connect Bluffton and Celina, has effected traffic agreements with the Western Ohio and Ohio Electric companies which will permit the new line to enter Toledo over the latter’s lines, says the Lima, Ohio, Herald. The new road is completed between Bluffton and Geneva. The other portion will be pushed to completion in the spring. Connections will be made with the Western Ohio at Celina and with the Ohio Electric at Lima.

Dr. Grandstaff of Preble made a professional business trip to Fort Wayno today. Joseph Brenergraph was busy today threshing his crops, just one miles west of the city. Miss Vivian Dawson is expected home from Elwood today, where she has been visiting. Mrs. Mary Meyers, residing south of the city, was busy today, threshing the season's crops. Mrs. Amos Fisher and children of this city attended the Union Chapel Sunday school picnic. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peters and daughter, Flora, are spending the afternoon in Fort Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Burke and daughter. Mary, left today for Colfax, where they will visit over Sunday. The Misses Frances Coffee and Dessie Mann are extra clerks at the Baughman five and ten cent store today. The funeral of Emanuel Delhi was held this afternoon from the chapel at the county infirmary, the Rev. L. Hessert officiating. Many from this city attended the Union Chapel Sunday school picnic in the Nidlinger grove east of the city today. Mrs. Wash Gilpen is expected to arrive this evening from Cardwell, Mo., for a several weeks' visit with relatives. Mrs. George Baumgartner and Children of Willshire, Ohio, transferred here o nthefr way to Fort Wayne for a visit. E. A. Hileman and daughters, Dora and Hattie, of Willshire, transferred here this morning on their way to Auburn Junction. Mrs. Wilson Beery of Pleasant Mills was quite sick today, Drs. J. M. Miller and J. S. Boyers holding a counsel regarding tne case. Clem Heiderman of the Schaub, Gottemoller & Company hardware store, leaves tomorrow on a week’s va cation at Rome City. Dan Niblick and children will go to Rome City tomorrow to join the other members of the family who are enjoying their vacation at the cottage there. Mrs. Anna E. Magley of Kenton, Ohio, wnl arrive the first of the wee» to visit relatives here and to attend the Magley reunion at Robinson pars next week. Abner Parrish of Tenth street, who has been seriously sick with cancer of the liver for many months, has been growing weaker during the past few days, and his condition last night is said to have been quite dangerous. Joshua Parrish, one of the prominent veterans of the city, is seventyfive years old today. In honor of the event he and his wife were guests of thier son, Frank, at dinner today at the Parrish restaurant. Mrs. Frank Parent and daughter, Mrs. John Hessler, went to Fort Wayne this afternoon for a visit. Mrs. Hessler will spend Sunday in Rome City with her husband, who is taking treatment at the sanitarium. One of the pleasant social events of the week was the party given Friday evening by Mrs. Charles Christen, corner Monroe and Tenth streets, in honor of Mrs. Julius Spies of Cleveland, Ohio, the guests numbering twenty. Mrs. E. A. Mann went to Fort Wayne this afternoon, where she will join her husband, who is returning from Petroleum, where he has been working on the new school house during the week. He will spend Sunday at home. Mr. and Mrs. Ear! P.utier left this morning for Silver Lake, where they will enjoy a two weeks' outing. Mr. Butler, who is one of Adams county i rural mail carriers, is taking his vacation at this time. Jacob Buhler, the up-to-date blacksmith, has purchased one of the fampus Brooks tire setting machines manufactured at Wichita. Kans. Il is modern, and the very best machine of tne kind made, and will be installed within about ten days. Jay Klopfenstine. four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Klopfenstine, of Preble, whose leg was injured by being run over by an automobile some time ago, and who, as stated a few evenings ago in this paper, suffered another injury by falling from a chair, in which he had climbed, is in a very serious condition.
