WEDDING COUPLE From Berne Pass Through City on Their Way to Fort Wayne. I WOULD NOT TELL About the Wedding—Carried Marriage Certificate Roll. A happy couple, giving their names as John Regler and Miss Addle Roth, of Berne, transferred here this morning, leaving on the 10 o’clock car for Fort Wayne. The young lady held in her hand one of those rolls, neatly wrapped in a newspaper, that couples so frequently purchase when they get marriage licenses that tne Democrat reporter immediately ■•suspicioned" a wedding couple. Examination of the marriage records revealed the fact that a marriage license had been issued to John Reiger. a Fort Wayne carpenter, and Miss Addie Roth, daughter of John Roth of Berne. When asked for the details of the wedding, however, the young couple stated that they preferred to keep the matter quiet and declined to give anything more regarding the wedding, wislfing. no doubt, to keep the event as a surprise for their friends. The young man was eagerly scanning some Pennsylvania time tables, and putting the two together it seems quite probable that the marriage will take place upon their arrival at Fort Wayne, and they will then leave over the Pennsylvania on a wedding trip. FLESH IS TORN Piece of Flesh as Large as Palm of Hand Torn From Right Leg. OF WALTER STETSON ” > lv q . t Who is Employed at Ward Fence Factory—Catches Overalls in Cog. Walter Stetson, an employee of the Ward Fence factory, was the victim ’ of a painful accident at II o’clock to day that will disable him for a week or more. He is employed as one of the wire spoolers and while forming wire pickets this morning his overalls caught in the gear of the ma- ' chine, drawing his right leg into the , cogs. A piece of fiesh as large as , the palm of a man’s hand was torn out of the leg. between the knee and ' ankle, and the leg otherwise badly . bruised. A cab was called and Frank Pearce, the foreman of the factory, ' accompanied him to the city, where ' he was taken to the office of Dr. J. i M. Miller and the wound dressed. It bled scarcely any, so there was no weakness from loss of blood. Nevertheless the injury was a painful one. and Walter will use crutches for se' • eral weeks, if he desires to get around. o- ■ 1
MAYOR GAYNOR IS SHOT (Continued from cage 1 I Late this afternoon Gaynor’s condition was not unchanged and he was still conscious. He asked his wife and son not to worry and smiled as he told of the shooting. A telegram from Colonel Roosevelt says: “I am shocked and horrified" A message from Taft said in part: “I earnestly hope and pray your recovery may be rapid.” At police headquarters Gallagher said he boarded the vessel at 10 o'clock and asked a passenger to point out Gaynor. “Hearing that Gaynor was going abroad to enjoy himself. after depriving me of my bread and butter, I shot him,” said Gallagher. He was discharged^ last January for intoxication. Edwards was shot through the arm in the struggle with Gallagher. o————— — JUSTICE SANDERS HIT BY TRAIN (United Press Service.) New York. N.
