J. J. Mayer of Monroe was a business visitor here yesterday. Mi. and Mrs. T. M. Gallogly have been visiting at Sturgis, Mich. James Spade was at Fort Wayne today attending to some business matters. Miss Georgia Beery of Kirkland township was shopping here yesterday. Raymond Bremerkamp was looking after business matters at Portland yesterday. Miss Emma Conrad has returned to her home at Magley after a visit here with friends. John Hessler was a business caller at Fort Wayne today and returned home on the evening car. Miss Irene Fry of Indianapolis is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Al Fritzinger and other relatives. Charles Ernst was jpoking after some business in the south part of the county this morning. Miss Rosa Schroeder left yesterday noon for her home at Madison, after a pleasant visit in the city with friends. Raymond Ko’ane left yesterday noon for Richmond, where he will make a several days’ visit with his sister, Mrs. Charles Cole. Mrs. Blanch Hoffman and daughter, Catherine, of Preble were visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Reynolds. Miss Mamie Harting writes that she has enjoyed her visit at St. Henry, Ohio, and has now gone to Lima, where she will visit with other friends. Jonas Tritch, who a few days ago returned from Bloomington, where he has been for some time, left this morning for that place after a few days’ stay in the city on business. Mrs. H- B. McGiren of Telehema, Okla., who has been the guest of Mrs. C. A. Seigfried, left yesterday for Pittsburg, Pa., where she will make a short visit before returning to her home. Mrs. Minnie Holthouse and son, Arthur, and Bernard Terveer went to Fort Wayne this morning where Arthur will have his eye dressed, from which a tumor was removed Monday evening.

Erwin and daughters, Doris and Elizabeth, went to Pleasant Mills today for a visit with relatives. D. M. Hensley returned home this afternoon from Rome City, where he has been since Sunday visiting his family. Mrs. N. E. Vitz of Defiance, Ohio and Mrs. Eberhardt of Indianapolis are visiting with Herman Sellemeyer and family. R. D. Patterson left last night for Chicago, where he was called by the death of a cousin, formerly Miss Jeanette Randall. Mrs. Arthur Ford and little son, Arthur Hower, arrived from Muncie last evening for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dal Hower. Mrs. Rose Mallonee and babe left Ulis afternoon for Fort Wayne, where they will visit with her brothers. M. E. and Charles Smith, and families. Mrs. Catherine Kammell of Pleasant Mills, who has been visiting with her sister, Mrs. Eliza Peterson, on First street, left today for her home. The bill posters for the great Wal-lace-Hagenbeck circus, which will come here Wednesday, August 10th. arrived in the city today and were busy putting up the posters advertising "the greatest show on earth." Miss Margaret Moran of Decatur arrived Saturday morning for a couple of days’ visit with her brothers, J. J. Moran and wife, West High street, and Dr. and Mrs. Mark M. Mrs. Anthony Holthouse of Jonesboro. Ark., who has been the guest of relatives for several weeks, left yesterday for Peru, where she will remain for several days. She will then go to Muncie for a visit before returning to her home in the southwest. Miss Bertha English, employed at the Cartwright & Headington store, will take a two weeks’ vacation from her duties, beginning this evening. Miss English, accompanied by Miss Pontius of Geneva, wil spend her vacation at Lake James and Chicago. — Portland Commercial-Review. Father Eberle of Goshen, who was in attendance at the reception given last evening in honor of Father Wilken's thirtieth anniversary of his arrival here, left this morning for Portland. where he will make a few days’ visit with his sister before returning to his home. Charles Voglewede left yesterday afternoon byway of Fort Wayne for Chicago, where he will be in attendance at a meeting of the retail merchants, which is to be held at that place tomorrow. Mr. Voglewede has been attending these meetings for some time past and they are proving very beneficial in his line of business. The Decatur Stars, a bunch of fast base ball players, will go to Craigville on next Sunday, wheer they will meet a fast aggregation from CBat place. Don’t fall to attend the dance given this evening at Maple Grove park, by the Phi Delta Kappas. Good music and a good time is in store for ail who attend. The court of Squire J. H. Stone was crowded today with witnesses and auditors during the trial of Hugh Daniels and Clint Death, charged with chicken stealing. Mrs. J. T. Baker of Kirkland township, who fell in the cellerway at her home February 9th, sustaining a fracture of the leg, has recovered, though she is still lame, and will probably always be so. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jay and Miss Esther Canada returned to their home at Fortville on the ten o'clock car Saturday morning after a visit with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Hiatt, at Pennville. Marlon Andrews of south of the city was a business visitor here today. He was surprised to find that the rain had been so heavy here, as there was but a slight sprinkle in that vicinity. Mrs. Jonas Cline of Root township, who has been visiting in Indianapolis. will go to Spiceland Friday for a visit with relatives, where she will be joined Saturday by Mr. Cline. They will return home Monday. The Misses Esther Sellemeyer, Matilda Selemeyer, Ella and Emma Mutchler, Emma Schlickman and Miss Helmstetter of Portland will leave Sunday for Rome City, wheer they will spend a week at a cottage. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hessert and children, Nora and Gertrude, Mrs. Edward G. Hessert and babe of Fort Wayne and Mrs. O. W. Cain and daughter, who have been visiting with Mrs. E. G. Hessert’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Yake, returned afternoon to Fort Wayne.
