Mike Miller of Monroe was a business transactor here today. John Hartman of Geneva was a business caller In the city today. Raymond Bremerkamp was transacting business at Portland today. Agnes Haugk and Clara Burr left on the 8:30 cur for a trip north on the Interurban. Miss Vernia Smith is a member of the extra clerical force at the Fair store today. John King of Mercer avenue is dangerously sick and at times his life is despaired of. E. R. Miller of Fort Wayne was here this morning on business with Kirsch & Sellemeyer. Mrs. George Morris of Bluffton is in the city the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meyers. Miss Lucy Addington of Geneva was in the city today making a visit wltn Miss Lucy White. Tlie double-header ball game at Maple Grove park Sunday will draw a large crowd there. Many will be drawn to Maple Grove park tomorrow afternoon by the dou-ble-header ball game. P. G. Williams was a business caller at Geneva, having charge of the Moser studio during the day. Harry Romer of St. Henry’s Ohio, is in the city making a visit with his unc'e, William Harting. Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Linker, prominent residents of west of the city, were business visitors here yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Plought of Clinton county are visiting with Verna Plaughe and wife of near St. Paul’s church. D. E. Laufterty returned to Huntington after atending to business here in the interest of the Waring Glove factory. Frank Gessinger has been at home the past week on account of ill health. He has been employed at the Marron packing house. The Acker Cement company shipped yesterday one car load of cement blocks via the Fort Wayne & Springfield railway to Mr. Scheimann, near Middletown. Miss Mae Gessinger and brother, Frank, went to Fort Wayne this morn ing. Miss Mae will remain for a fewweeks’ visit while Frank will return this evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pilliod and daughter. Charlotte, of St. Mary’s Ohio, arrived in the city today for a few days’ visit with her mother, Mrs. Mary Wemhoff. Mrs. Charles Hearn of Decatur, who has been visiting at the home of William Hearn, West Walnut street, went to Bryant Thursday afternoon. —Portland Commercial Review. Metropolitan papers give an account of the safe landing at Naples, Italy of the steamer Hamburg, on which Miss Pansy Bell of this city, with Mrs. Eva Gregg and children, embarked. The ball game at the Maple Grove park between the Shamrocks and the Fort Wayne Elks Sunday afternoon promises to be one of much interest, and a large crowd will no doubt witness it. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Christen and daughters. Germaine and Bernardine, have gone to Detroit for a visit with her brother. Lawrence Smith, and wife. They will probably remain until Tuesday. Miss Esther Purdy returned this morning to Bluffton after visiting here with relatives. She was accompanied by her grandfather, L. H. Purdy, who will visit with his son, Samuel, and family at Bluffton. Mrs. Bert Lynch and daughter, Beatrice, of Jonesboro. Ark., arrived in the city last evening for a visit with Mrs. R. J. Holthouse. Mr. Lynch will arrive here this evening, he stopping off at Fort Wayne, looking after some business. Mrs Fred Vaughn and son, Crede, are visiting with Mrs. Vaughn’s father near Angola. Mrs. Vaughn will return the first of the week, but Crede may remain all summer with his grandfather —that is if he doesn’t get homesick. The Rev. J. M. Dawson, the new pastor of the Christian church, in instrumental in the organization of a men’s Sunday school class and club, and all men are given a special and cordial invitation to attend and become Identified with this club. Prof. H. A. Popp, vice president of the International Business college of Fort Wayne, called here yesterdav on J. B. Klracofe of the Smith & Bell office and other graduates from that college who are now holding excellent positions and making good in the business world. Two trick bicycle riders entertained the public on the court house corner for about half an hour last evening and their stunts were the best ever witnessed by Decatur people. Any thing imaginable was done and a real good collection was received front the crowd for their entertainment.

Miss Ethel Vernon of Chicago went to Fort Wayne this morning after attending to business matters here for the Will Melton company. Many are contemplating attending the picnic at St. John's tomorrow, given under the auspices of the Zion's Lutheran chuTch of this city. Appropriate religious services will be held in all the places of worship in the city tomorrow, to which the public is cordially invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Clem Voglewede and daughter, Cedric, will leave tomorrow for Rome City, where they will enjoy several weeks’ vacation. Mrs. Frank Boyers and daughter, Miss Annetta, left this morning for Huntertown, where they will be the guests of relatives for several days. Otto Wemhoff is acting as clerk at the Hensley jewelry store in the absence of Mr. Hensley, who is at Rome City enjoying a few days’ vacation. Mrs. Ross Jocker and little daughter, Geraldine, arrived last evening from Fort Wayne for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Haley. Mr. and Mrs. John Price and their brother and sister, George and Ida Frice, Mrs. Crawford of Clinton county are guests of John Harvey and wife. Mrs. William Scherer of Monroe, who was recently operated upon at a Fort Wayne hospital, and who was thought to be gradually recovering since her return home, was reported as not so well yesterday. Schlickman & Girod will furnish about two hundred dollars’ worth of ice cream, candies, fruits and refreshments for the picnic to be given by the Zion Lutheran church at St. John's grove tomorrow. The picnic will be a great one and everybody is planning to attend.
The American Live Stock company, through its agent, John Stults, of this city, has turned over to W. H. Stults, one thousand dollars, that being the amount of insurance carried by them on Harley Axtelle. the famous blooded stallion, which died a couple of weeks ago. Miss Lucinda Coon, who has been sick for some time with Bright’s disease at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Will Parent, is now under the care of a trained nurse, Miss MaryAvery, of Hope hospital. Fort Wayne. She was reported as having passed a very bad night. George Young, who each evening is entertaining the public with his songs and tricks before disposing of his goods on the stret corner, drew a large audience again last evening and did a real good business. Mr. Young is a Willshire man and known by a number of Decatur people since he was a boy. Mrs. Mary Christen and grandson. Eugent Johnson, left this morning for Monmouth, where they will visit over Sunday with her sister. Mrs. Martha Dutcher. Mrs. Dutcher, who recently underwent an operation at the Fort Wayne hospital for a facial cancer is not getting along as well as she would like. Mrs. Will Kelley and three children of Topeka, Kans., came Friday afternoon for a week’s visit at the home of her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Kelley, of East Walnut street. Mrs. Kelley and children will go to Titusville, Pa., next week for an extended visit with her parents. —Portland Sun. John Julian was in the city from Decatur yesterday and made arrangements with Lew English to open a second hand store here. They were formerly in businesiness together in Bluffton. As soon as a room is secured they will begin business, and It is expected they will be ready tomorrow. The firm will go by the name of English & Julian—Bluffton Banner.

Dave Scott of Marion was a business caller in the city today. William Zwlck of Williams made a business trip to the city today. James Frlstoe will join his wife in a visit at Winona lake over Sunday. Miss Jess Simison of Berne will visit friends in the city over Sunday. Dan Erwin will go to Winona to join Mrs. Erwin in a visit over Sunday. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Johnson was quite sick today noon. John Schug was looking after some business in the south part of the county today. Miss Rose Klelnhenz is clerking at the Steele & Weaver rocket store tills afternoon. Mrs. Harmon and daughter of St. Henry, Ohio, are visiting with John Harmon and family. Miss Henrietta Loeffler of Fort Wayne will be the guest of Miss Lilah Lachot over Sunday. Mrs. Robert Cline of Root township, who has been very sick, was reported as stronger yesterday. Mrs. Dan Erwin and son, Joel, who have been at Rome City for a few weeks, came home today. Orval Harruff went to Linn Grove this afternoon, where he will make an over-Sunday visit with friends. Mrs. Mary Schieferstein of north of the city was shopping here yesterday, returned on the 11:30 car. John C. Thomas and daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Farlow, of Wabash township were business visitors here today. Mrs. D. C. Gardner, who has been visiting at Lima. Ohio, changed cars her this afternoon on her way to her home at Fort Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dunn and children who have been the guests of friends at Portland for several days, returned home today. Lon Wagner returned home from Uniondale, where he attended the funeral of his aunt. Mrs. Sarah Seabolt, which took place Friday. The Misses Margaret Gallogly, Velma Porter, Genevieve Bremerkamp and Dessie Mann are extra clerks at the Baughman store today. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shackley and daughter. Georgia, of Monroe, passed through the city on their way to Fort Wayne, where they will visit. Clifford LaDelle was assisting as clerk at the D. M. Hensley jewelry store today owing to the absence of Mr. Hensley, who is at Rome City. The Misses Helen and Agnes Kinney of Geneva, who have been the guests of relatives here for several days, left this noon for their home. Misses Agnes and Helen Kinney, who have been visiting here with their uncle, P. K. Kinney, and family, returned to their homes at Geneva this afternoon. Mrs. Addie Simcoke of Hammond, who has been here for the past four weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Walter Kauffman, left this morning for St. Louis, where she will spend two weeks with her son, Charles Simcoke, and family before returning to her home at Hammond.
