Frank Helman of Route 5 was in the city today attending to some business Interests. Fred Reppert, who has ben absent from the city for several days on business, returned home. Mrs, Kila Patterson of Logansport and Mrs. J. S. Coverdale were guests of friends at Berne today. G. T. Burk, who has been at Bloomington for several days past, has returned to the city. Robert Colter left today noon for Pleasant Mills, where he will visit with friends for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gottemoller and children have returned home from several days’ visit in Ohio. Otto liters of Willshire was a business transactor here last evening and left for Fort Wayne on a similar mission. Miss Maggie Miller left today for Huntington. where she will be the guest of relatives and friends for several weeks. Miss Agnes Kohne of The Fair store was numbered among the sick yesterday, being obliged to go home from the store. The Misses Kint and Agnes Voglewede left this noon for Fort Wayne, where they were guests of friends for a few days. John Tisron returned home this noon from Bluffton, where he was looking after some business matters for a few days. Erastus Fritzinger left today for Schumm, Ohio, on business pertaining to the Decatur Foundry and machine company. The opening of Maple Grove park Sunday will draw a large crowd to that pleasure resort, special attractions having been prepared for that event. Henry Bleeke Os Union township brought two fine loads of hogs to the city this morning, disposing of the same, for which he received a fancy price. The Baughman store bears a notice of "closed on account of moving,” the opening to be held Saturday at the new building between Blackburn's and Curley’s. She is seventy-eight years of age. The Decatur Stars have made a date with the team of Ohio C’ty for next Wednesday and are at present getting 'themselves into shape for a royal battle, which will take place at. Ohio City. Misses Mayme Center and Naomi Bosse were at Fort Wayne today, where they paid a visit to the latter s mother, Mrs. J. W. Bosse, who is still there, owing to sickness, but is improving. Mrs. Ella Redding Is expected home this week after and extended visit at Springfield, Mo. She stopped off enroute home for-a visit with a daughter at Forest, Indiana, and will arrive here this week from that place. Tho household goods of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cleffi, who were recently matried, were shipped this morning by interurban freight to Monroeville, where they will make their home. Mrs. Clem was formerly Miss Mary Miller.

Dan Niblick came home this noon from Fort Wayne, where he was attending to business. Mrs. Sarah McFarren returned this morning to New Paris after a visit here with relatives. Mrs. Dr. J. Q. Neptune went to Willshire last evening, where she made a short visit with friends. John Lachot left this morning for Warren, where he was attending to business for the firm he represents. Simon Bowers, the well known justice of the peace of Kirkland township. was a business visitor here this morning. Tony Harmon of Cincinnati, former ly of this place, has written friends here that he is anxious to hear from his old home town. He will leave in the fall for Columbus. Ohio, where he will attend college, and expects to come to this city for a visit. Fred Tague of Greenville. Ohio, was here on business today. He reports his family well and that they like their new home very much. Their little daughter, Helen, celebrated her second anniversary this week, June 21st. Miss Edna Steele left this morning for Attica, where she will visit with her sister, Mrs. Charles Barnhart, and will then go to Cayuga for a visit with another sister, Mrs. Albert Parker. She was accompanied to Attica by her brother-in-law. Mr. Barnhart, of that place, who was here on business. George R. Flood of South Bend, special agent for the Home insurance company of New York, of which L. C. Helm is local agent, was here yesterday adjusting the loss on the George Mumma barn, which was destroyed by I fire recently. The amount of ?20(>. | the sum of the insurance, was paid I in full.

The picnic to be given on next Sunday by the Emanuel church in Union township will be a pleasant affair and a large crowd will no doubt attend Mrs. Cal Kunkel of Monmouth was shopping here yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Rena Barker, who has been employed at the Murray hotel, has resigned her position and returned to her home at Columbia City. Mrs. Mary Elzey left this morning for Berne, where she will make a visit with relatives. She will be accom panied home by her daughter, Mrs. Charles Ulman, son and daughter of Rock Island, 111., wno nave also been visiting there. Rev. Father Noll arrived in the city today from Fort Wayne, where he delivered a lecture to the students last evening. He will also deliver the commencement address for the St. Joseph’s school to be held at the Bosse opera house this evening.
