CLASS DAY EXERCISES (Conttsued From page I.) "works." It is told in mirthful numbers of the sad fate of a dinner party given by the Roberts family in their flat. A number of the guests arrived and were waiting with the Roberts for the other guests. The dinner grew cold and the cook grew hot—but the guests who were known to have started did not arrive. They were finally discovered in the elevator, which had become stubborn and stopped midway in the shaft. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, the host and hostess, were portrayed by Don Burk and Caioline Dowling; Dr. Lawton, the practical blunt doctor, by Homer Raudenbush; Miss Lawton, his daughter ,the timid, but coquettish young miss, by Dorothy Walters; Mr. and Mrs. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Cureven, both couples, who are mutually Jealous of their companions, were represented by Howard Wisehaupt, Lilly Teeple; and Bruce Patterson and Irene Evans: Miss Bemis, the maiden lady, by Effie Patton; Mr. Bemis, her brother, the bachelor, who dances his attention, not unfavorably, upon Miss Lawton, by Fremont Frisinger; Mrs. Crashaw, Aunt Mary, the dainty, lovable little old lady, by Anna Winans; Wilma Campbell, the practical maiden lady, the heroic rescuer of all, by Alma Kooken; and the elevator boy, who pilots the bunch up the shaft, ai their "lodging" place, by Frank Mills. The parts were all excellently carried out, and when one considers that the presentation depended more upon the portrayal of character, than upon the strong.- of plot, the difficulty of achievement can be more appreciated. Following the play cime-the “presentation of the spade” by the seniors to the juniors, a custom inaugurated by the class of 1908 to be perpetuated. The spade is used in turning the sod for the planting of the vine at the school grounds by each senior class as a memorial, and as Don Burk, who made the presentation speecn, said, was significant of “dig"—a quality so necessary to students. Carl Smith, as president of the junior class, received the spade, with a very appropriate speech, in which he said that when "his class presented the spade to its successors a year hence, they hoped that it would not be so new and shiny looking, from so little uae —as was apparently the case now —and so decorated with ribbons and frills. Mr. Burk explained this by saying that the spade had been used so much, that his class had found it necessary to paint and decorate it before passing it on. The closing scene of the evening was that of the entire class of sixteen members, in caps and gowns, in semi-circle on the stage ,as they rang forth in joyous tones, their class song, composed by them jointly and abounding in happy jests and jokes, pertinent to their fellow students and teachers. The next great event of the week will be the commencement exercises, proper, this evening.
