Tom Haefling will arrive from Flint, Mich., in a few days to make a few days’ visit with relatives. George Louthan Hill, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hill, born Sunday, was quite sick yesterday, but is much better. The babe’s mother was formerly Miss Charlene Louthan. Clark Spahr returned home from Berne today after attending the high school commencement which was held last evening. H. Fledderjohann, Mr. and Mrs. Will Richards left on the 10 o'clock car for Fort Wayne, from which place they will go to Marion to attend the Woman's Home Missionary convention of tne Methodist church, held there today and tomorrow. A new Recal electrical piano for the John Joseph candy kitchen arrived last evening from Cincinnati and was placed in position today ready for playing. The machine is a beauty, being finished in oak, and is capable of playing nine pieces by simply attaching the electric light. The roadmaster of the G. R. & 1., Mr. D. P. Wright, of Grand Rapids, Mich., arrived in the city this morning and with Will Franks went to Monroe, where they looked after some business pertaining to the new switch which is to be put in by the company at that place. The Boston store has honored the Decatur high school during commencement week by a display of the class pennant and class colors of red and gold in the display window, which ' is arranged in a very attractive way ; with all the spring novelties useful for gifts. Father Wilken went to Cincinnati this afternoon, where he will make a few days’ visit with friends. While there he also makes visits with Confraters Aloysius and Vincent, who are studying for the priesthood there. These two young men were formerly Carl Crawford and Lawrence Ehhiger of this city. Announcement was made today of the approaching marriage of Mr. Albert Wilson, a prominent Wells county farmer, and Miss Eunice Walker, a resident of this city. The ceremonywill be performed within the near future and will be a very quiet affair, only the immediate members of the family being in attendance.—Bluffton Banner. Miss Annice Wilder of Monmouth has taken a position as apprentice at the dressmaking shop of Miss Schlickman. Mrs. Fred Schafer, who has been at - Auburn for a few days to attend the funeral of Mrs. Lydia Cowan, return- ’ ed home last evening. The pay car of the G. R. & I. passed through the city this morning at 8:30 and made the monthly settlement ‘ with the employes at this place. 1 Father Flaherty went to Fort 1 Wayne, where he attended the funeral of the Rev. Father Roche, which ’ was held at that place today. I C. R. Tarbett, the typewriter man of Fort Wayne, was in the city yesterday on business, having his head- ’ quarters at the ’Squire Smith office. More than one good housewife post- ( poned her mid-week porch scrubbing today because as she said, “What’s the use when the comet’s tail will -come swishing around and get it all dirty again?” The home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Haefling was made glad during the night by the arrival of a big baby boy, which made its appearance at 2 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Haefling has been staying with her sister, Mrs. James Haefling, on Fourth street. About twenty of the little schoolmates of Arthur Russell were invited to spend the afternoon with him Tuesday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pussell, to help him celebrate his eighth birthday. The celebration was carried out in proper style by the little folk, who never had a merrier time. A number of pretty presents were showered upon him in memory of the day. The Bobo M. E. church invites all the old soldiers, their wives and widows and Sons of Veterans, SpanishAmerican war veterans and the public in general to the memorial services to be held at the church Sunday morning, May 29th.
