Miss Blanch Hart of the Citizen's Trust company, Fort Wayne, will spond Christinas with her uncle, Harmon Tettman, and wife. J. C. Patterson, who was at Winchester to attend the funeral of Mrs. Patterson's father, Mr. S. O. Irvin, returned to the city Tuesday evening. For the last few days the town has been running over with tramps and beggars trying to collect money or eatables wherever they could. Dr. Fred Patterson returned home today from Winchester, where he went ’ to attend the funeral of his grandfather, Mr. S. O. Irvin, which was held Tuesday. Miss Agnes Costello, stenographer ' for the law firm of Peterson & Moran, will leave Saturday morning for Clnj cinatl, Ohio, where she will visit a . week with friends. E. D. Dr. Mart Moran of Portland was a business visitor in the city today. Charles Pennington Is butchering today for the Bernard family on the Cotchin farm. Misses Grace and Pearl Purdy will spend Christmas with their brother, Samuel Purdy, and family at Bluffton. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Watts will go to Toledo, Ohio, Thursday to spend Christmas with their daughter, Miss Myrtle. Miss Ina Bowen and Miss Alma Bowen of Wlllshlre, Ohio, transferred here this morning on their way to Fort Wayne. Loo and Lew Yager will arrive home in a day or two and will spend the holidays with their sister and brothers. The farmers’ Institute will be held January 28th at Berne, Instead of January 25th, as printed in Tuesday evening’s paper. Mrs. N. H. Noll cf Pleasant Mills was In the city today doing some shopping. She returned to her home on the noon train. John Rex, who has been working at Bowling Green, Ohio, with his son, Newton, will spend Christmas with his family here. John Hendricks, sr., of Monroe, was in the city today looking after some business. He returned to his home on the afternoon train. Mrs. Charles nonham of Bryant arrived today and will be the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rex, over the Christmas holidays. Mrs. Fred LaDolic and daughters, Hazel and Mildren, went to Fort Wayne this morning for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Frank Trimm. The beautiful sewing machine on exhibition at Brook’s will be given away on Thursday evening, December 23rd. Those having coupons should be on hand. Mrs. J, H. Heller, who has been 111 with quinsy since Saturday, is better today and expects to be able to celebrate Christmas in her usual hearty manner. Jake Tester, who has been working at Portland, putting in an elevator for the Portland Foundry Co., left for that place this morning and will soon have the Job completed. Clyde Baumgartner, who has been attending a veterinary college at Chicago, returned this morning to spend the Christmas vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Baumgartner. Sheriff Lipkey and Dr. DeWees of Keystone arrived homo yesterday evening from Richmond, where they took Calvin Walker, the insane farmer, of Chester township, to the insane hospital. The patient was taken to the hospital without any mishap, but he was very weak and it was feared several time before the arrival that he would collapse.—Bluffton Banner. The daughter of Seymour Robinson Is still In a serious condition, although the doctor can tell nothing about her condition until a few days later, until the critical point has been , reached. The Misses Bertha Kinney and Margaret Clark will leave in a day or two , for Van Wert, where they will attend a dance, which will be held there on Monday evening, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Hale and Miss Carrie Craig were at Fort Wayne today attending the funera' of Judge Zollars, which was held in the Scot- . tish Rite cathedral at 2:30 o’clock. Rev. F. H. Vernor, who has served as pastor of tho Christian church in this city, has resigned to accept the pastorate of a church in Ohio. He preached his last sermon here last Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Elzey returned this morning to Fort Wayne after visiting here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Elzey, and Mr. and Mrs. George Bauserman. Mrs. Elzey's sister, Miss Ruth Bauserman, accompanied them home for a visit. Joseph Didot, son of John Didot, is confined to his home on Madison street with a severe attack of scarlet fever. Dr. Keller is attending him and disinfected the place of business of Mr. Didot and in a day or so he will be able to open his store again to the public. Dr. Cook's a fakir, but we havo to admit that he played for a high stake. Had Peary remained away a year, he would have had the money. After all, what is to be done about the fact that he has been proven a fraud. Befor his spectacular entrance into newspaper space he was an unknown quantity, but now he would be a drawing card on the vaudeville circuit. Ice harvesting is here aud it’s no joke. It requires a bunch of men to pack the necessary amount to keep us cool next summer. The season will probably continue a week or two from present appearances. A peculiar fact it is that though the weather has hovered about zero for a week past and there is eight-inch ice on the ponds, the river has not frozen over. This is accounted for by the fact that the river was bank full and the current has been so swift that it prevented freezing.
