Schafer are among the Decatur people who are attending the Shriners meeting at Fort Wayne. Joe Winteregg of Berne, was here for a time yesterday and last night left for Rockford and Freeport, 11l , where he will spend a few days on business. James Foreman of Blue Creek township, was in the city today attending to business, including the attendace at a meeting of the fair association board.

Ed Kelley made a business trip to Fort Wayne this morning. Mrs. Will Badders went to Fort Wayne this morning. Miss Midge Smith went to Fort Wayne this morning. Miss Luella Hackman returned to her home north of the city today. Miss Lilah Hackman went to Fort Wayne today for a visit with friends. Louis Holthouse returned home from a business trip to Fort Wayne. Mrs. E. A. Snow returned to her home at Bucyrus, 0., after a visit in the city. P. K. Kinney and son Charley went to Fort Wayne this morning to spend the day. George Tricker left this afternoon for Geneva, where he attended to some business. Miss Maude Shoaf of Boston, is in the city for a several days' visit with Miss Jean Lutz. Mrs. Crist Lake returned to Fort Wayne after a short visit with friends in the city. Henry Peters has purchased a property at Fort Wayne, which he will use for renting purposes. Eli Wagner, of Monroe, who has been visiting with his sister at Winchester, returned to his home. A number of Decatur lawyers went to Bluffton today, where they will look after business in the Wells circuit court. Chas. Martz returned to his home at Berne this afternoon after looking after some business here during the forepart of the day. The candidates are due here tomorrow, afttr a rather bad week, the weather having been stormy most of the time. Three weeks more and thev can rest. Mrs. John Fleming, of Kenton, 0., who passed through the city yesterday, enroute to Huntington, stopped off on her way today, and visited friends on her way home. “My Boy Jack’’ at the Bosse opera house this evening promises to be one of the cleanest and best shows which will be seen here this season. Morrison of Blue Creek township. was helping in the survey of a ditch today, the same being located in Union township. John Bogner is moving his household goods into his new property which he has erected on .Taxon street and is a very neat and commodious dwelling. A. P. Beatty will go to Indianapolis tomorrow, his mission there being the filing of a brief in the supreme court, an appeal in a case tried in the Jay circuit court. The show this, evening which will be staged at the opera house promises to be one of the best ever in Decatur, I and you will miss a rare treat if you fail to attend. Some of the new machinery for the Decatur Furnace & Machine ComI pany has arrived and is now being placed in position, and soon the company will be operating with an increased force of men. Mrs. P. B. Arnold of Fort Wayne, who was in the city for a visit with Mr. D. H. Hunsicker, who is confined at his home in the' west part of the city on account of sickness, has returned to her home. Rev. and Mrs. N. E. Vitz of Defi- ' ance, Ohio, returned to their home after visiting with the latter's parents, Mr. H. W. Sellemeyer and family south of the city. Rev. Vitz was here attending the dedication services at Vera Cruz last Sunday. "My Boy Jack" company have ar'rived in the city and will play at the Bosse opera house this evening, and as they are a good company and carry some mighty clever people, a crowded house should greet them when the curtain rises at eight o'clock. The Decatur Horse Sale company is getting ready for the first sale which will be held in the early part of January. They "expect to have the greatest year in their history and that's saying something, for the previous ones have been good ones. The city schools are moving along nicely. There have V een no new cases of scarlet fever, and the two children who have the disease are recovering without any signs of seriousness and it is not believed there will be any further cause for alarm among the children or the parents. H. L. Mefry ticket agent at the Grand Rapids depot this city, returned home last evening from Richmond, where he attended a lecture of the road. All the agents from junction points along the line were in attendance and the lecture was delivered by one of the Pennsylvania officials. The good weather man seems to have got into the harness again and dishing up about as nice an article as we can ask for this time of year. For the sake of the man who is digging up the county for votes, we hope the bureau can see their way clear for a continuance of same for about three weeks at least. The Stenograhpers' Club of Detroit gave a reception Wednesday evening at the Elks’ Temple in honor of Mrs. Effie Brokaw-Johnson, who is a member, and who will leave for her home at Decatur, Indiana, within a few days to spend Thanksgiving and the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Brokaw. Mrs. Johnson is stenographer at the home office of the Phoenix Preferred Accident Insurance company of Detroit. Godleib Christianer from just east of the city, left for Fort Wayne, where he w'*.l visit with friends for a short while. Quite a number of sports are taking advantage of the hunting season and. large numbers are enjoying themselves every day. Dr. Grandstaff of Preble township, was transacting business in the city today and returned to his home during the afternoon. D. E. Smith and Dr. Roy Archbold returned from Fort Wayne last evening after attending the Scottish Rite meeting and they report an enjoyable day . Elgin Scott, second trick man at the G. R. & I. depot, seems to be the champion checker player in that part of town, and hife defeated friends are busy looking around for some one to take him into camp. O. S. Spat went to Fort Wayne this morning to pay a visit to his mother, who was operated on the first part of the week at the Hope hospital. So far she is improving nicely and on the road to good health. Tn his canvass of the county Jacob Buhler, who is a candidate for r. corder yesterday called on Harlo Mann, a former citizen here and w-ho now lives in Monroe township. He found him' very ill, but they had a good old visit anyway. Israel Stoneburner has accepted a position as operator on the Clover Leaf Tailroad this city and began his duties yesterday morning. He obtained a positton owing to the absence of Mr. McDaniels who resigned and left for Indianapolis. N. R. Chalfant, adjuster for the Ohio Farmers’ Insurance Company, was in Bluffton this morning on his way to Linn Grove to settle a loss. He said that the T. J. Kerfoot loss in this had not yet been adjusted, as there were some points 8n it that have to be investigated a little deeper. —Bluffton News. While the grand jury may not do anything In the Haag murder case it is possible that the, entire bunch in the room with Uptegraft and the Thompson woman may be arrested on the charge of contributing to the delinquency of Stella Williams. The girl was with Kump. She is now under the care of the juvenile court, being about fifteen.—Bluffton Banner. While playing with some nails in the wood house of the farm of his I father, Monte Starr, aged 5, was struck in the right eye with a rusty nail, resulting in the loss of the organ. As a result while the attending surgeon may be able to keep the organ in its socket the sight has been totally destroyed.—Bluffton Banner.
