Miss Ruth Milier returned today from Fort Wayne, after a visit with friends. Noah Weber returned to his home at Fort Wayne after being in the city on business. Miss Stella Tucker went to her home at Peterson for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Tucker. A blind man from Winchester was in the city today collecting the loose nickels and dimes which the different people gave him. Mrs. C. B. Sweeney and child, of west Race street, left for a ten days’ visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Putnam Hall of Decatur—Portland gun. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Boner, of Pleasant Mills, and their guest, Mrs. Burnett, of Oklahoma, are spending J a few days in Fort Wayne with friends. Mrs. (Lydia F. Segur of Marion, state inspector of the W. R. C., arrived ta the city this noon, and will attend the meeting of the order tonight. Mrs. Segur visits with each order once a year.
E. Wooda returned today from a bustnenH trip to Bluffton. Mn. Sadie Cowiy will visit friends at Ossian for a few days. Mrs. J. B. Rice went to Fort Wayne today for a visit with friends. Miss Harting is spending the day in Fort Wayne with friends. John Myers, of Monroe, was looking up old friends in the city today. Miss Bertha Smith returned this afternoon from a week’s visit at Fort Wayne. Fr. Benzinger, of Hesse Castle,was visiting with friends in the city today. Mrs. I. Imler was able to be up and around today after an attack cf lagrippe. Andrew Appleman sis slowly recovering from his sick spell although yet very weak. Mrs. Erman Mentzer, of Bluffton, arrived in the city noon for a visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thornton, of Lima, Ohio, transferred here enroute to Fort Wayne. Elder Frank Rafter, of Montpelier, was in the city today, the guest of Rev. F. A. Vernor. H. F. Callow made a business trip to Fort Wayne on the one o’clock car this afternoon. Abraham Schneider of Berne, night police of that place, was in the city today on business. Mrs. M. V. B. Archbold of Fort Wayne visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Edge today. Mrs. Wm. Butler who is visiting with relatives at Dayton, Ohio, will return home in a few days. Mrs. R. Schlaulaub, of LaOtto, arrived in the city today for a visit with W. J. Baker and family. Miss Edna Andrews returned to her home at Peterson, after a visit with Dr. and Mrs. Burt Mangold. Mr. E. R. Thompson of Ft. Recovery, 0., transacted business in the city today and has returned to his home. Harmon Bosse, who has been at St. Josephs hospital, Fort Wayne, for the last three weeks, is slowly improving. Mrs. M. A. Mann, of near Winchester, who has been the guest ot Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Mann, returned to her home today. Mrs. C. M. Lienke of Delphos, returned to her home after a visit with Mrs. John Smith in the city and with relatives at Geneva. County Recorder H. S. Steele, who has been suffering from a severe cold for several days, was able to be at his office a part of the day. Mr. W. H. Tummons route agent for the National Express Co., was in the city today looking after the business of their office here. Porter and Weaver of Fort Wayne, who were in the city and performed an operation on Mr. D. H. Hunsicker, returned to their home this afternoon. Little Naomi Teeple who severely cut her hand in a fall, is much better, and will no doubt get along all jright. It was at first feared that there might be danger of blood poisoning. W. A. Edge and family of Springfield, Mo., are visiting relatives at Kirkwood and other places in Ohio. They will return and complete their visit with Mr. Edge’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Edge before returning home. / Mrs. W. A. Lower and Mrs. D. D. Heller, who have been in attendance at the meeting of the state board of charities and correction at Columbus, Ind., for several days, are expected to arrive home this evening or tomorrow noon. Mbs. Lilly Hammond, of Bluffton, who has been at the bedside of her mother, Mrs. Ida Whitright, returned to her home today. The condition of Mrs. Whitright is very low, and her friends are very much worried over her condition.
J. R. Patterson, Daniel Shackiey, T. R. Moore, Joshua Parrish, Ezra Cutting Mnd A. J. H>eple and S. Fordyce attended the funeral of George Thomas yesterday. The minister, Rev. C. T. Payne, preached a soldier’s funeral, and the ritual serviicefe were conducted by the above named veterans at the Pleasant Mills cemetery where the remains were buried. A large crowd witnessed the p’ay at the opera house last evening, and all seemed to be well pleased with the play. They carried ’ their own scenery which was up to date and along with their beautiful costumes made it a very interesting show. The next show which wWI be Saturday, is the “Frivolous Bonnie” and is up to date in all respects. Don’t fail to attend if you want to have a good laugh. %

George Tester, who was a business caller at Portland yesterday, has returned to the city. Will Lehne returend home front Cincinnati where he was attending to business affairs. Robert Houck returned this morning from Fort Wayne, after transacting business in that city. Miss Dora Fairchild will leave tomorrow for Saginaw, Mich., after an extended visit with friends. Miss Madge Hite and Ina Everett spent yesterday afternoon with friends north of the city. Cris Meyers, who was lookfrig after business at Geneva this 'morni|ig,| returned home this afternoon. G. Reason, of Berne, was in the city today on business and returned to his home on the afternoon train. Will Cowan, of Valparaiso, Ind., Is in the city looking up old friends, and also attending to some business. Chas. Helmrick, of Preble township was in the city this morning on business, and has returned to his home. Mrs. George Roop and Mrs. Grover Sells will return home this evening after spending the day with friends. Don Quinn left this morning for Indianapolis and will attend to business for the Decatur Motor Car Co. Mrs. Thomas Elzey is spending a few days visittag with her son Mr. Ervey Elzey and family at Celina, Ohio. C. E. Hltesman returned home from Cincinnati, where he was buying some stock for his five and ten cent store. Mrs. Helen Blossom has returned to Fort Wayne, after a visit with her daughter MYs. Ansel Bremerkamp and other friends. Mr. and Mrs. John Herman and children who have been visiting with relatives at St. Henrys, Ohio, for the last week or so have returned home. The Democratic candidates for city offices are making a whirlwind finish and as a consequence expect to and no doubt will increase their majorities. ) Little Chas. Holthouse who has a carbuncle on the back of his head, found it necessary to have it lanced this mornfrig, and it is now thought it will soon commence to heal. The window of the True & Runyon grocery department is artistically decorated and presents a fine appearance, when the lights are turned on. The wiindow was decorated by Wesley Huffman. Mr. and Mrs. John Christen and Mrs. Ed Christen left this morning for Ft. Field, Ind., where they will attend the wedding of their son August, to Miss Jane Loraine, which will take place thite morning. Because Bluffton fe not mixed up in the mudslinging campaign which is 'prevailing at Decatur the papers there take occasion to rap the old enemy of the Adams county seat by calling Bluffton "8166?/.”—Bluffton Banner. Calvin Harris, for eighteen years a tenant on one of the farms of Cebert Abshire, today filed a claim against the estate for |SOO. The claim is for labor, hay and other things, for which It is claimed a settlement was never made. —Bluffton Banner. Hubert Van Camp. who has been in the city for the past week, and while here attended the funeral of his father. He is stationed as nurse ta the hospital at Pensacola, Fla. He received a seventeen days’ furlough after which time he is supposed to be back on his duty. An article published broadcast over the country a few weeks ago to the effect that checks could not be issued for sums of less than ?1 has caused much discussion, and it might be well to state for the benefit of those who have not previously seen retractions of the article that no such order will go into effect.
The contest that has been going on at the Crystal theater for the last few days is causing a bit of interest and is beginning to make the contestants work some if they wish to win. Miss Edith Miller is leadtag the list with sixty-four points while Miss Naomi Niblitek is closely following up with fifty-four. Vera Radamacher is next with forty-one and Agnes Murray with thirty-five. County Auditor O. D. Garrett and Ed Foust have set Thursday as the date of their departuer for a hunting trip in the Maine woods after moose. They will make the trip with a party of Marion and Lafontaine hunters, and there will be site or eight in the party besides themselves. They had intended to make the trip byway of Quebec and Montreal, but their routing has been changed and they will go byway of Boston. —Bluffton News.
