SOCIETY COLUMN (Continued from page 2.) Mission House college, Sheboygan, Wis., will give an address at the Gern an Reformed church Tuesday evening at 7:30. Come and bring a friend with you. Miss Lilah Lachot entertained Misses Carrie and Mae Ehler and Miss Chloe Studaftaker of Bluffton, Ralph Johnson and Clyde Byerly of Montpelier, at dinner yesterday noon. In the evening after spending several hcurs very enjoyably in a social way the party went to the home of Miss Bessie Buamgartner, where luncheon was served. The Misses Ehler and Miss Studabaker returned to their home this morning. Mrs. Samuel Fuhrman was the vic tim of a surprise Saturday evening it being her forty-second birthday anniversary. The surprise was planned by Mr. Fuhrman and daughter Beulah, and was so well carried out that Mrs. Fuhrman did not even have the slightest inkling of what was going on. Mr. Fuhrman had arranged to tpke Mrs. Fuhrman to the city late 'Saturday evening, and while there the guests gathered and awaited the return. To say that Mrs. Fuhrman was completely surprised when she entered her home and found it occupied by over forty of her friends and neighbors, is a very mild way of putting it. Mrs. Fuhrman was the recipient of many beautiful and useful presents as tokens of respect. The evening was spent in a social way, after which an elaborate three-course luncheon was served and greatly enjoyed by all. The guests departed at a late hour wishing Mrs. Fuhrman many more such pleasant surprises. The guests from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Armack and daughter Prudie, Mrs. B. F. Smith, all of Mount City, Mo.

ON HER WAY HOME Mrs. Morrison Will Be Home Wednesday After Long Absence MISSED THE QUAKE She Left Mexico City the Night Before the Earth-

quake A message received Saturday from Mrs. Morrison dated at Fnrt Worth, Texas, relieved many of her friends, as it was feared that the quake that last week played such sad havoc in Mexico might have also made her its victim. She left Oaxaca a week ago Sunday or Monday, and on Wednesday night she left Mexico City and on Thursday morning the earthquake destroyed many buildings in Mexico City and did a great deal of damag" to both life and property. Mrs. Morrison will be home Wednesday, after an absence of many months, the most of this time being spent at Oaxaca, where the climate seems to suit her and where she has been in better health than when she is any place else. She is accompanied home by her daughter who in another month will leave for another year in college. The earthquake did a great deal of damage in Mexico, but it was confined along the southeastern part of that country, doing no damage at al! at Oaxaea. —o MODERN MARINE MARVEL • New D. A. C.
