Manager. ~ A newspaper dispatch sent out from Omaha stated that Mr. Bryan had caused it to be announced that he is a candidate for United States senator. There was no truth in the dispatch. Mr. Bryan wired to the Omaha World-Herald this statement: “I reiterate what I have said several times before, namely, that I do not desire to be a candidate for the senate and do not expect to be. While I will not say I will not be under any circumstances, it will require some emergency now unforseen to bring me into the race, and I hope no such emergency will arise.” Senator Beveridge is the busy boy these days. He has been a thorn in the side of the old eastern standpat senators, who never did like him, and it letting out a lot of truth which his followers would not believe if it came from any other source. His exposure of the steel trust, the beef trust, cash register trust and the tobacco trust has opened the eyes of millions of steadfast republicans in this country, and they see these things now as they never saw them before, and yet what Beveridge has said had been said many times by democratic speakers and democratic newspapers.—Columbia City Post. The democratic party is indebted to Mrs. Cleveland for the earnest and womanly protest she has made against the fraud that was perpetrateilagainst ,

BOARD OF REVIEW They Will Take Up Mortgage Exemptions During Next Week VIEWERS’ REPORT File Report on Vacation of Road in Hartford Township The board of review adjourned at noon until Monday They have put in rather a busy week, and have practically settled and agreed upon the assessment of each individual and corporation in the county. Several thousand dollars have been placed on the duplicate during their session, beginning on the seventh day of June, and according to law lasts for thirty days. On Monday they will take up the mortgage exemptions, and as there are 1,347 of them in the county, this means a lot of work for them. Every- one filed represents a decrease in their taxes up to seven hundred dollars, providing the mortgage is of that amount. Besides this they have several other special cases to adjust but it is thought that by the time limited by law expires they will have concluded all their work. The viewers appointed at the last session of commissioner's court to view and report upon the vacation of a highway in Hartford township have filed their report with the auditor and the report will come up for action by the board at the July session of commissioner's court. The viewers are James M. Duff, Frank Hisey and William Conrad, and their report is a complete one. The petition was originally filed by John P. Steiner and others. o „ . HOT AND STORMY Is the Prediction of Rev. Ira Hicks for the Month of July RAINS FOR FOURTH The Prognosticator Has Been Doing Some Close Guessing this Year According to brother Hicks, and while at times he has been the butt for some cruel jokes, it must be acknowledged that he has been hitting the mark pretty close this year, the month of July is to be a hot and stormy one. He predicts very high temperatures from th* 2nd to the sth, causing a warm wave to pass easterly over the country and from the 3rd to sth low barometers and blusteting violent storms. The prediction for July 4th Is rain and thunderstorms for many localities. The period Bth to 10th, promises severe electrical and atmospheric unrest. Look for heavy thunder gusts and driving rain squalls. On and touching the 9th storms will reach their crisis. A sharp change to rising barometer, with cooler winds from the west will bring up the rear of these storms. The temperature will rise very high, the barometer will fall, and storms of threatening aspect will visit many localities, progressively from west to east, between the 14th and 17th. From the 19th, 20th and 21st will be noticeable black, blustering storm clouds and scattering local downpours of rain. We do not look for general, diffused rainfalls throughout the country, although the whole month as a rule may be attended by heavy rains. We rather look for local cloudsbursts over narrow, scattering localities, with wide, intervening sections without normal or sufficient rainfall. Heavy electrical storms and violent summer gusts are very probable about the 23rd, and from that date on through the period 24th to 28th. Spells of the most oppressive summer heat to be expected, ending in fierce lightning, thunder, hail and sudden drop in temperature.
