Friday evening the Eastern Star gave a banquet to the Masons in hono> of Dr. and Mrs. M. A. Hutchison. The evening was spent socially. The esteem of the Star was shown Mrs. Hutchison by a beautiful Eastern Star pin, presented by Mrs. H. P. Bredette and from the Masons to Dr. Hutchison a watch charm emblem of the Masonic order presented by E. M. Crain. There were 126 present to patake of the banquet, which consisted of ham. escalloped oysters, chicken salad, potato chips, pickles and olives, celery, sandwiches, ice cream, cake and . coffee. —Augusta (Ill.) Mrs. Helen Blossom, of Fort Wayne, will visit in the city this week. She will have the paper on “Child Labor" in the Historical Club which meets with Mrs. R. S. Peterson tomorrow evening, and on Wednesday afternon she will read a paper before the Shakespeare Club on "Mexico" at the home of Mrs. W. H. Nachtrieb. Mrs. Lola Holmes, of Jonesboro, distant deputy of seventh district, is here to inspect temple of Pythian Sisters. Two candidates, Mrs. Chas. Yager and Mrs. Emerson Be? vers, will be given the work this evening. A banquet will be served. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Hensley entertained Mrs. D. F. Quinn, Miss Reba and Master Robert Quinn yesterday for dinner. s Miss Mamie Terveer will entertain the Bachelor Maids at euchre this evening. ,
Invitations are out for a large afternoon party from three to six Tuesday afternoon to be given by Mrs. Knorr. This week's meeting of the Euterpe an Club has been changed from Thursday to Tuesday night. The ineetii g will be held at the home of Mrs. John Niblick and the presence of every member is desired. According to seme misunderstanding the Embroidery Club will not meet this afternon as was intended, but has been postponed until a later date. BRIDE SAYS TM A FARMER." Woman Gives That Occupation in Applying for Marriage License. Wabash, Ind., Jan. 31.—The first bride in Indiana, in all probability, and certainly in Wabash, to give her occupation as a farmer in applying for a license, was Miss Elsie Dora Kent of this county, who was granted a license to wed Elbert L. Lindley, a butcher of Huntington county. Asked for her occupation, she replied. I“I am a farmer.” So thi soccupation | w?s placed in the books containing j wedding applications. It was stated i that her father owns a farm and she assists in the management. Sue is an attractive young lady, and did not consider her occupation so rare.

Varnell, owner of the local Central League club, ' has gone to Chicago where he will confer w'ith Manager Hendricks. Among other matters which will be I taken up will be the question of what to do with Jack Lindsay, shortstop. It was thought that the ques■tion of who would fill the place of I Champ Osteen was settled when Linds.y was purchased, but that player’s request for release has reopened the I case.
