WEATHER Fair tonight with warmer south portion; Saturday probably fair and continued warm. J. L. Chronister, of Rivare, was a business caller here today. Mrs. J. F. Snow went Jo Geneva this afternoon to visit relatives. Paul G. Hooper and E. B. Lenhart were business callers at Monroe this afternoon. Miss Victoria Stone has returned from a visit at Chicago, Indianapolis and Muncie. John Frlsinger went to Berne this aftercoon on business pertaining to the Hanly meeting there tomorrow. About thirty people from Portland were in the city today attending the law suit of Alexandria vs. Alexandria. Many from here will attend Ethel Barrymore in Frederick at the Majestic theater at Fort Wayne this evening. Pref. Beacmer went to Dayton, 0., this afternoon to be at the bedside of his father, John Beachler, who is near death’s door. The “Queen of the Rockies’’ show troupe arrived from the north this afternoon and will play at the Bosse opera house this evening. Harry Jeffries, the popular clerk at the Hensley jewelry store received an entire outfit of tools this morning that are dandies, being all the latest.

P. K. Kinney made a business trip to Geneva today. Jack Meibers went to Payne, Ohio, this morning cn business. A number of Berne people trans acted business in our city today. Mrs. Fred Schafer had as her guest yesterday Mrs. F. Dibble east of town. Ross Stone, of Fort W’ayne, was a business caller in our city this morning. Mrs. Emery Smith left last night for St. Paul, Minn., for a visit with friends. Mrs. Clara Meyer went to Willshire this morning for a few days’ visit with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Whitright went to Monroeville this morning to visit her parents for a few days. Phil Macklin, of Geneva, returned to his heme this morning after a short visit here with his son. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Kuebler will gp to Fort Wayne tonight to see Ethel Barrymore at the Majestic. The fire escape has arrived for the West Ward school building and the same is being installed. Jacob Kalver, of Chicago, arrived in the city last evening to make a short visit with his father and brother. Interesting services are to be held at the various churches next Sunday, and the public Is invited to all meetings. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stauffer and daughter Rosa, went to Fort Wayne this morning to spend the day with friends. Mr. Robert McCbrton, of New Orleans, Is in the city visiting his sister Mrs. M. S. Smith and mother, Mrs. Mira McCorton. The Coppock Motor Car company has many -bright prospects for the sale of the great commercial car. The outlook is encouraging. John Ehrman, of San Francisco.was a visitor in Decatur yesterday and has left for a visit with friends and relatives at Van Wert and Detroit. Mr. Olive rSchug, bookkeeper at the traction company office, returned to his duties this morning after a ten day vacation at Berne and Indianapolis. A new Decatur furnace has been installed at the Ilolthouse Schulte Co. clothing store and it is a dandy. In fact the Decatur furnace is the best on the market. ♦ Rev. F. Hartman and wife returned to their home at Berne this morning. They were here assisting in the special services at the Evangelical church last evening. Jacob Kalver, of Chicago, was in the city this mo/ning for a short visit with his father, Barney Kalver, Jake is now traveling for- a large sheet music firm with his brother-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas M. Reed, of Huntington, the latter formerly Miss Bertha Fullnekamp, of this city, are rejoicing over the arrival of a girl bafiy at their home. The babe arrived Wednesday. Albert Baumgartner, of Bluffton, Ohio, will arrive this evening to attend the funeral at Linn Grove tomortrow of Mrs. Neaderhouser. He will be the guest of J. The St. Marys river is very low at present, as a result of the continued drought. Dr. H. E. Mrs. Fred Oakley went to Fort Wayne this morning to take treatment fcr her eyes. Dr. Bulson is treating her. The in Addims county promises to be hot from this time until election day. Many speeches are scheduled. School work in the various wards is progressly nicely. An unusually large number of students are enrolled and all are dcing well. Mrs. W. H. Leas, of Waterloo, will arrive in the city tomorrow to remain for several days as the guest of b er daughter, Mrs. Earl Peters. Mr. and Mrs. Lewin Dunbar left this morning for Darlington, Ind., for their home, after visiting a few days with Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Burk. The Modern Woodmen expect a great time at Fort Wayne on the evening of October 26th. A class of candidates from here are to be initiated. The Ward Fence Co. officials are much -elated as a consequence of receiving many orders for their output. The factory is operating regularly and a large force of men is at work. N. Hull, formerly of this city, employed at the Coppock Motor Car company, was a business caller in Decatur yesterday. He is now located at Montpelier, Ind., and is doing well. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Fruchte, newly wedded, left yesterday afternoon for an extended visit through the east. They will return in about ten days and beat home on south Third street. The farmers and city folk are alike asking for rain. The weather man is certainly covered with petitions for dampness. There is nothing doing in the planting of wheat this dry weather. Mrs. M. E. Mcsure. of Berne, who has been visiting with Mrs. Runyon and Mrs. Opliger for a week, went to Markle today to visit with friends Bor several days before returning home. Many Adams county people are rejoicing over the William Jennings Bryan is to honor us with another visit. There is not a doubt but what a large and enthusiastic crowd will greet him. Carl Moses is getting along very nicely. He has all but recovered from the recent siege of typhoid fever and in all probability will be able to resume duties at the Moses and Myer furniture store soon. Messrs. Hocker and Smith, of Monroe, are to be congratulated upon their inventive ability. The employment of their clever ideas has netted for them a neat fortune, that of $12,500, which they received for the patent of theirs. The Pythian ladles are meeting with success in the sale of tickets fcr their benefit home talent play scheduled for next Monday night. They merit success and the public should patronize them liberally in consideration of the worthy cause represented. Mrs. Alex Beall arrived Friday from Muncie, Ind., where she had been the guest of 'her father, Rev. McCarty, and is now the guest of Sam Stein and family. She v»ill leave in ■the course cf a week or so for Washington, D. C., where she will make her future home with her daughter, Mrs. Gerald Smith. —Willshire Herald. A “magic healer” who claimed to cure by placing his hands upon the part of the body affected by pain was arrested for practicing medicine without a license. It was held by the Georgia Court of Appeals in Bennett vs. Ware, 61 Southeastern Reporter, 546, that while he was not practicing medicine within the statute which provides that the words “practice medicine” shall mean to "suggest, recommend, prescribe or direct for the use of any person, any drug, medicine, etc., for the cure, relief,, etc.” the physician who caused him to be prosecuted was not acting in bad faith so as to be liable for malicious prosecution.

She will be joined Saturday by her husband, who will spend Sunday here. Squire J. H. Smith took suddenly ill at the office of J. H. Stone this morning and his life was despaired of for a short time. Dr. J. S. Boyers was i called and administered some tablets I and shortly afterward he went into I regular convulsions. Later on he was I taken to his home and as we go to | press he is resting somewhat easier. In the Allen county, Ohio, common pleas court, Tuesday, by Horace A. Reeve, of Cincinnati, and G. N. Leasure, of Delphos, his attorneys, George Stirn, of Delphos, filed suit against the Clover Leaf for damages in the sum of SIO,OOO or alleged ■ permanent injuries to his eyes, which has impaired his sight, received ' while in the employe of the defendant company as a locomotive fireman.— Blufftou Banner.
