In his Topeka speech Mr. Bryan asked some questions anent the republican opposition to the guaranteeing of bank deposits which appeal forcefully to the people of the northern Indiana counties, whose savings were wiped out by the failure of the banks at Auburn, Waterloo, Lagrange, Avilla and Laporte. Mr. Bryan said: Why not make the depositor secure? The United states government requires the deposit of specific security when it entrusts money to a national bank, although it can examine the bank at any time; the state requires security when it deposits money in a bank: the county requires security and the city requires security; even the banks require security from the officials who handle money. Why should the depositor be left to take his chances? Not only is the depositor without protection, but the security given to nation, state, county and city lessens his security. They are preferred creditors; they have a mortgage on the gilt-edged assets and the depositor must get along as best he can with what remains. Why are the interests of depositors thus neglected? —Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette. CANE MILL RUNNING. I am ready to operate my cane mill. Bring in your cane. Satisfaction guaranteed. A STATE MEETING Rural Carriers from Over the State Gather at Marion, Ind. J. S. PETERSON THERE To Submit Wemhoff Coin Holding Device to the Carriers The semi-annual state meeting of rural carriers was held at Marion today and several of the Uncle Sam employes frem this city were in attendance. John S. Peterson, deputy posttaster, accompanied the carriers and during the course of the meeting he presented the Wemhoff coin holding device for the endorsement of the carriers. This device has been approved nf by every carrier out of Decatur, it being simple in construction and most convenient in its manipulation. Pennies placed in same can be obtained by the rural carriers without removing from his vehicle, but by pressing on a projection at the bottom of the device. Money in as large denominations as a silver dollar can be placed in the box and taken therefrom without inconvenience and thus do away with the practice of digging coin out of the mail box. It is assured that Mr. Wemhoff’s invention will be in use and, in that event, he will reap a bountiful reward. —o Try Admiral coffee. 209-ts You have tried the rest, now try the best —Admiral coffee. 209tf
