F. M. Schirmeyer was a business caller at Fort Wayne today. W. M. Lord x was a business caller in our city today from Monmouth. Miss Jessie Magley has Returned from a visit at Detroit, Michigan. Harry Jeffries is at Rome City this week visiting at the D. M. Hensley cottage. W. E. Smith has returned to the city from Ohio for a visit with friends and relatives in the ciry. Mr. and • Mrs. Lafayette Ellis were among those who attended the circus at the summit city today. Mrs. W. O. Kuebler and Miss Edna Crawford have returned from a two weeks’ visit in the east. Misses Florence and Verna Johnson are spending a two weeks' vacation at Rome City the guest of friends. J. M. Wells, of Geneva, passed through the city today enroute to Fort Wayne on a special business trip. John S. Peterson and family have returned from a several days' outing at Rome City where they enjoyed a fine time. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Zimmerman left this morning for Fort Wayne to attend the Ringling Bros, circus at that city today. Many families have moved to the city recently and the supply of homes for these people is inadequate. More houses must be built. A meeting of the stockholders of the interurban company was held at the station this morning and much business was transacted. The traction company hauled quite a number of people from here and vicinity to Fort Wayne today on account of the big circus there. A little fat baby boy appeared at the home of Teaclre rand Mrs. Paul Dorn of the Fuelling settlement, early this morning. Everybody happy. Louis Keller and daughter and son cf Monroe, passed through the city today enroute to Fort W’ayne, where they attended the Ringing Bros.’ circus. Prof. Whitthouse. of Berne, passed through the city today enroute to Preble, Ind., where he will give lessons on the violin to his class of students. Richard Stoneburner who was badly cut on the leg by a horse a few days ago. is recovering from same nicely and nothing serious is expected as a result. Harry Waller, the youth of remarkable strength, who has given several clever performances Non the srreet corner, has gone to Berne to give an exhibition. This being circus day at Fort Wayne, many Decatur people have special business at Fort Wayne, or else they have to go and take the children to see the circus.
Frank Winger has returned from a short business trip at Fort Wayne. Mrs. Dan Vail went to Fort Wayne this morning on a short visit with friends. Several Decatur people are attending the Ringling Bros, great circus at Fort Wayne today. Irwin Elzey, of Celina. Ohio, is in the city loking after business affairs and visiting relatives. A number of Decatur people went to Fort Wayne today to see thebig Ringling Bros. show. French Quinn left this morning for Rome City where he will visit with his family for a short time. F. V. Mills and daughter Margaret went to Fort Wayne this morning to look after business interests. Miss Ella Edington left this morning for Syracuse, Ind., where she will attend a meeting at Oakwood Park. A card from Mr. Fred Schafer, written from Amsterdam, says the members of the party are well and happy. Mrs. Charles Dunn is recovering nicely from the injuries she sustained some time ago. She will soon be able to be about. R. K. Allison returned to Oden, Mich., this morning and will make a visit with his family who are spending their vacation there. Mises Emma and Edna Hoffman and Mrs. Eugene Runyon spent the day at Fort Wayne yesterday and returned home last evening. Mrs. Page Blackbum and three sons went to Fort Wayne today, where they are attending the Ringling Bros, circus at that city. Mrs. Samuel Lutz, of Waterloo, 70 years of age, was found dead in bed Tuesday morning by her daughter Death was due to heart disease. A card from Rev. Richard Spetnagle, from Chillicothe, Ohio, says that he and the family will leave for Hartford, lowa, on Friday for a short visit. A young businss man of this city and a young lady from Decatur will be married in the very near future. The bride elect formerly lived in Bluffton.—Bluffton Banner. Miss Fannie Frisinger left this morning for Blomington, Ind., where she will attend a hoqse party given by some of her girl friends and spend several days with friends. Miss Laura and Cecil Fipps who have been visiting with relatives in this city from Chicago, 111., went to Markle this morning for a short visit before returning to their homes. Mr. Ralph Wellman, of Cleveland, Ohio, will arrive in the city today and make a short visit with D. M. Hensley. He will go to Rome City tomorrow and visit at the Hensley cottage he being a cousin to Mrs. Hensley. The picnlcers who attended the picnic of the German Reformed church yesterday at Maple Grove Park returned last evening by special cars on the traction line. Th e picnic was one of the most enjoyable ever held by the church. Marshal Atkinson, of Geneva, came to the city this morning in charge of Dick Butcher, who was arrested and convicted before Squire Armantrout of public intoxication. The squire sentenced him to twelve days in jail. Dr. Edwin Rinear has rented the Risser property on east Market street and will move his household goods to this city trom Warren. He will continue the practice of medicine in this city. Dr. Rinear is a son of E. M. ‘ Kinear of Bluffton. He has lived in Warren the past fifteen years, following his profession.—Bluffton Ban- • ner. j County Auditor O. D. Garrett this morning announced the appointment of John Shoemaker, son of Bruce Shoemaker, living one mile west of Bluffton, to succeed Charles Frantz, as deputy auditor. Mir. Shoemaker will come into the office next wek to familiarize himself with the work and by the time of Mr. Frantz’s retirement —September I—will be in a position to take charge of the portion of the. business of the office allotted to the deputy. Fouts passed through the city today enroute from Bluffton, Ind., I to Geneva, where she will make a ’ short visit with friends. Miss Goldy Gay went to Kendallville this morning and from there she will go to Rome City, where she will enjoy an outing for several days. A number of Decatur delegates are attending a convention meeting at Syracuse, Ind., at Oakwood Park. The metting continues the rest of this week. Mrs. J. Tester left this morning for Oakwood Park, near Syracuse, Ind., where she will attend a convention which is being hell there this wteek. Samuel Butler, who has been at Warren, Indiana, for some time, returned last evening after hearing of his barn burning.' Mr. Butler informs us that he carried SIOO insurance. Marvin Mygrant left this morning for Syracuse, where he will look after important business and from there he will visit at Wawasee Lake, where he will spend several days on a fishing trip. Harry Waller, who has been giving several exhibitions of his great strength on the streets here the past few days this afternoon left for Berne, where he will give some like exhibitions at that place. Mrs. W. H. Kuebler and daughter Marcella and Miss Edna Crawford returned last evening from a several days’ trip to Cleveland. Ohio, and Niagara Falls. Mr. Kuebler also accompanied them and will return in a short time. Mrs. Dr. Schenck and daughter, Agnes, of Berne, were in Portland Wednesday on their way to Muncie for a couple of days’ visit with her brother. Rev. ; *D. B. Atkinson and family.—Portland Sun. Andrew Baxter informed us today that the roof of the art hall at Steele's park are completed and in fine condition. Exhibitors need not fear to display their goods now as the art hall has been celled and a new roof placed on same. Mrs. F. Peterson, of Decatur, spent Tuesday in this city as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Whitman. Her husband plays shortstop on the Decatur team and joined her here yesterday afternoon. The two returned home together in the evening.—Bluffton News. Robert Bly met death in jumping from a Lake Shore freight train at Kendallville Tuesday morning. Bly was a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Bly, of Kendallville. He was a barber by occupation and had been employed in Detroit, but was returning home for a visit with his parents when the accident occurred. Dr. S. D. Myers, a well known dentist at Kendallville, has been adjudged insane and has been removed to the asylum at Logansport, Delusions that he was poverty-stricken so preyed upon his mind that frequently he would go out in the street to drum up trade by stopping people and opening their mouths to look in to see If their teeth Jld not need repairs. Mrs. Fred Tague left this noon for Rockford, Ohio, whore she will make a several days’ visit with her mother. Mrs. P. J. McGill returned to her home at Berne this afternoon after making a pleasant visit here with friends. The Great Northern Indiana Fair is only about three weks off and the fair officials are busy getting ready for the great event. The regular meeting of the Friday Night Euchre Club has been postponed until further notice and no meeting will be held this week, Mrs. Orta Leidy, of Cloverdale, Ohio, and Miss Nettie Ford, of Geneva, were guests of Miss Merl Burdg, a few Jtours, enroute home from a trip to Niaragar Falls. The actors who belong to the Mexican troupe that will play here Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Pictorium, arrived in the city this ndon and they carry with them an educated pony. Several of the stockholders of the Fort Wayne and Springfield interurban company arrived this morning from points in Ohio to be here at their meeting which was held at the station this morning. Mrs. ’Mary Myers entertained at her country home today the following guests: Mesdames G. Berling, Elizabeth Voglewede, J. H. Voglewede and 'Mrs. Anthony Overman and her daughters, Anna and Agnes, of Covington, Ky. Tonight >s the regular dancing night at Maple Grove Park and a good crowd is expected to attend same. Good music will be furnished by, True Fristoe's rag time orchestra and the public is invited to attend. Dances will be given every afternoon and evening from now on. The following people returned last evening from a trip to Niagara Falls: Mrs. Lydia, of Cloverdale, O.; Miss Lettie Ford, of Geneva, Ind.; and Misses Emma Sellemeyer, Emma Schlickman, Lucy Fruchte and Rose Egan. The party report a most enjoyable trip and had a fine time. A fine new county and state atlas and survey, is being gotten out here in Adams county bj Rand, McNally & Co. Their representative is now in the citv explaining the work and he will be glad to receive the co-opera-tion of the people of this locality. Without doubt this will be one of the finest things our county has seen in a great while. —Geneva Herald.
