William Haag made a business trip to Berne this morning. John H. Heller returned last evening from a business trip to Geneva. Robinson Park is also being advertised in Decatur as a Fourth of July atti acts-m. As usual, according to our former custom there will be no Daily Democzat tomorrow. Miss Emily Wyatt wll leave in the niuriiiug for Fort Wayne, wher e she will spend the Fourth. Mrs. Rosa Passwater left this morning for a several days’ visit with her brother, at Garrett, Ind. All members of the M. E. choir are earnestly requested to meet at the church tonight for practice. Miss Grace Buhler left this morning for Angola where she will make a sev. eral days’ visit with friends. Mrs. G. Ritter went to Dunkirk today to spend the Fourth and also visit with friends for several days. Miss Clara Major and Bryan Hendricks went to Monroe this morning to spend a few days with friends. Miss Maude Cowley went to Kendallville this morning where she will visit with friends over the Fourth. Mr .and Mrs. W. H. Leas, of Waterloo will be the guests of their daughter, Mrs. R Earl Peters over Sunday. A large crowd of people attended the dance at Maple Grove Park last night and a glorious time was enjoyed. Mrs. Guy Johnson left this morning for Mendon, Michigan, where she will visit with her husband for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Peters will go to Bluffton tomorrow to spend the Fourth with their daughter, Mrs. Erman Meutzer. Miss Myrtle Burkhead left on the morning train for Richmond, Ind., at which place she, will visit over the Fourth of July. Margaret Hannellin returned this morning to Portland after visiting here with Miss Jessie Magley and Mrs. John Christen. Miss Goldie Biggs went to Fort Wayne today and from ther e she will go to points in Ohio where she will spend a few weeks’ visiting. That eventful day. the Fourth of July, is but one day off and the little folk and big folk as well are anxiously awaiting the signal of its opening. Judge James T, Merryman will return to Winchester soon and assume jurisdiction in another case assfaned him for trial jn the Randolph circuit court.
D. L. Quinn left last night for West Baden, where he will drink the heal’h restoring waters, and endeavor to divorce himself from a good supply of bile.
While at work about her home Wednesday, Mrs. Flavius Parks, of Warsaw, fell across a hot stove, burning her right arm in a fearful manner. Her condition is serious. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bracht, of Fort Wayne, will arrive in th e city tomorrow morning to spend Saturday and Sunday with Mr. and Albert Bracht, of west Monroe street. Mrs. Ed Helwig and her guests, Mesdames Streibe and Giisun, of De catur, visited today at the Peter Faylor home north of the city, in Lancaster township—Bluffton News. Mrs. Henrietta Judson, a colored woman at Elkhart, died from heart disease the result of excitement when her granddaughter made a bluff at committing suicide by swallowing a quantity of liberally diluted carbolic acid. The girl had been jilted by her lover.

Ray Doty went to Servey, Ind., today to make a short visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Steed, of Marlon, Indiana, have arrived in the city for a visit with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Miller left this morning for Kingsland where they will spend the Fourth with friends. Mrs. D. D. Heller and Mrs John Tyndall left on the 10:00 o’clock ear to spend the day at Fort Wayne. Miss Jessie McLean left today for Chicago, where she will be the guest of friends and relatives for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thomas return ed to their home in Fort Wayne this morning after Visiting here for several days. Senator H. M. Purviajtce of Huntington, has been re-elected president of the Indiana Retail Furniture Dealers’ association. Howard Spake, a letter carrier at Bluffton, was badly bitten by a dog while delivering mail at the home of Frank Heckathorne.
Everything is in readiness to make the eagle scream tomorrow at Monroe and the residents of that place are figuring on a gala time. Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Smith will leave today for New York and Brooklyn, where they expect to make a three weeks’ visit With friends. Mrs. L. L. Bernan and daughter passed through the city today enroute to her home in Markle after visiting at Berne for a few days. The reports of fireworks being set off Is being heard in all parts of the city and the small boy is tickled to death when he touches one off. Mesdames Ellen Dailey, Harry Deam Harry Studabaker, Del Lock e and Cole returned to their homes in Bluffton last evening after spending a short time jn the city with frends. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scheiman left this morning for South Bend, where they will make their future home. Mr. Scheiman has accepted a position there with a meat packing company. State Pure Food Inspector Tucker has started a war at Goshen in the interest of better conditions in the dairies and bakeries, and his revelations have caused something of a sensation there. Mrs. John A. Bright returned to Ossian today after visiting with the Cloud family in this city for several days. She was accompanied to her home by Miss May Cloud who will make a visit with her. From all appearances the majority of the Adams county farmers will celebrate the Fourth of July in the wheat field. At least the wheat ’s not yet all in and the farmers are working hard to take off the crop. The commercial car which has been under construction at the Coppock Motor Car company for some time, was completed yesterday and was taken to Van Wert this morning and de- ’ livered to Geo. Rice and son who have purchased same. Thinking she was taking a dose of medicine which had been prescribed as a heart stimulant. Mrs. Rolla Wil-i liamson, of South Whitley, swallowed a quantity of sugar of lead and was critically ill for a time, but physiciars averted fatal consequences. In her haste Mrs. Williamson had grasped the wrong bottle. The trial of Tom Covault for assault and battery upon “Red Bill” Gor-! don will be heard by Mayor Hamil-. ton at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Tom has been summoned to come over from Portland, where he is working in a livery barn and show why- 1 fore he is not guilty of slugging Mr. Gordon. At the time of the fight Gor- i don pleaded guilty and paid his fine | but Tom allowed that he was Innocent and stood trial. —Bluffton Banner.

Surprising their friends and relatives who were awaiting the wedding ceremony at their newly-furnshed i home Tuesday evening, Miss Pearl , Brown and John Johnson, of Bluffton, had the nuptial knot tied at the home of th e bride’s mother and then appeared before the waiting guests and calmly announced that the ceremony had already been performed. The J wedding dinner was participated in by guests who had been given no glimpse of th e marriage. j Portland lodge No. 768, B. P. O. Elks initiated sixteen candidates on | Tuesday evening, and with a special ' sesson, following, the members had the time of their lives. The work was conferred by the degree team of | Muncie lodge, No. 245, and was the finest that has ever been seen in the city of a similar character. The I team, composed of Messrs. A number of Decatur people have planned out of town visits for tomorrow. Anson Bremerkamp, William Dorwin and O. ‘P. Mills left today for Lake Gage, where they will spend two days fishing. Miss Lizzie Peterson will leave tomorrow for Shelby, Ohio, for a several weeks’ visit with her sister, Mrs. Frank Olwein. C. J. Weaver found a check drawn by E. Ed Zimmerman 'in his store today and the owner can have same by calling for it at the Steele and Weaver racket store. Sheriff Eli Myers received three cards this morning requesting him to be on the lookout for stolen horses, which wer e taken from Bluffton, Huntington and Goshen. A cab in which M. Kirsch and family were being taken to the Clover Leaf at noon today, had a wheel torn off. when caught in the interurban track, near the Niblick store. Luckily no one was hurt.
The Shamrocks will leave in the morning for Hoagland, at which place they will cross bats witjj the team of that city. The local boys are in fine trim for the fray, as they have had much practice of late, and fully expect to come out of the mixup with the Hoagland bunch victors.
Thirteen year old Lloyd Harris, son of the late T. H. Harris, who has been staying with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gilliom northeast of town, has made himself scarce in the neighborhood of •home and his whereabouts were not known up to yesterday. He was sent to Decatur on a wheel Monday to get some repairs for a binder and that was the last Mr. Gilliom saw or heard of him. Llyod tried the runaway game once before, but failed. Berne Witness.

Miss Marie Patterson left this afternoon for Fort Wayne, where she will spend Saturday and Sunday with friends. Dan Niblick will go to Minster, Ohio, tomorrow, where he will join his family for a several days’ visit with relatives. The Coppock Motor Car company sent a car to Van Wert this morning it having been sold in that city. The trip was made in a little over two hours, and the new purchasers expressed satisfaction with the car. Deputy Sheriff Ed Green arrested Joe Blaney last night upon the charge of non-payment of board hill which he owes to Mrs. Lucy Ray, who recently moved to Monroe. He was given a hearing before Squire J. H. Stone this morning and his case was postponed until next Sunday, He gave bond for his appearance.
