Miss Tillie Meibers has returned from an over-Sunday visit at Rome City. D. M-. Hensley went to Rom e City yesterday to spend Sunday with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Barney Meibers are enjoying a several days’ outing at Rome City. Charles Sullivan, of Berne, transacted business in our city today and has returned to his home. C. L. Meibers and Charles Patton were at Rome City yesterday and have returned to the cit-y. Mrs. D. E. Smith and children have gone to Rome City to spend a week at that famous summer resort. Miss Gip Dorwin returned this morning from Fort Wayne, where she was the guest of friends over Sunday. Will Reiter, of Fort Wayne, was the guest of friends in the city yesterday and returned to his home this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bell, of Hadstead. Mich., are guests of their daughter, Mrs. J. E. Cording, of east of the city. G. M. Glancy, editor of the Ohio City weekly paper passed through the city today enroute to Fort Wayne rn business. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tettman have returned from Bluffton, where they attended the funeral of their cousin, Frank Adams. Miss E. V. Steinman passed through the city this morning enroute to her home at New Haven after visiting at Pleasant Mills a short time. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Majors, of Berne, have returned to their home after spending Sunday with jjhe latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shafer Peterson. Elmer Elzey who has engaged in business at Kingfisher, Okla., writes that he likes the country fine and that he Is meeting with much success In business. The Misses Mayme. Ada and Bert Deininger, Bert Voglewede, Mayme Conter and Mr. Kilburn spent Sundav at Rome City and hav e returned to the city. L. L. Sheline, who recently sold his interest in th e broom factory to W. J. Archbold will leave this week for the west with the intention of launching Into business. Maple Grove Park was the scene f quite a large crowd of people yesterday. The City band rendered fine music and Maple Grove continues to be the center of attraction. Mrs. John Bixler went to Decatur this noon accompanied by her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Fetters of Warren, and by “Grandma’’ Bixler, who will spend the summer at Decatur The other members of the party will return homo next week. —Bluffton News. The South Side ball team were defeated by the Shamrocks yesterday at the ball park by the score of sixteen to four. At the end of the fifth inning the South Side boys wer e willing to quit as the Shamrocks nearly tore the cover off the hall by their terrific hitting. The game was witnessed by a fair sized crowd. Settlement of the alimony claims which Mrs. T. Thornton Snell at SIOO,OOO in her suit for divorce filed in the circuit court at Goshen is said to have been adjusted between the parties. It Is rumored that the wife of the Elkhart banker will receive money and property to the value of approximately $40,000.

Mrs. H. M. Knapp left this morning for a visit at Fort Wayne with friends. Bub Burrell returned last evening from a visit with friends at Fort W’ayne. Mr. and Mrs. Sipe, of Fort Wayne, arrived this morning for a visit with frienJs. 1 Miss Mary Rex was the guest of friends at Fort Wayne yesterday afternoon, Mis s Alma Watts, of Stop 26. was a caller in the city today doing some shopping. George Wemhoff was a visitor at Fort Wayne yesterday and returned on an evening car. Leslie Andrews, of Marion, has arrived in the city for a visit with friends and relatives. Bert Green visited friends at Fort Wayne yesterday afternoon and has returned to the city. Miss Stella Wemhoff returned to Fort Wayne today after visiting with her mother over Sunday. Mrs. Rev. Hessert left this morning for Magley to spend a few days with Rev. Snyder and family. Mrs. Emma Philley returned home today after a week with her sister in this city, Mrs. H. L. Coverdale. Little Miss Ruth Juday, daughter of Otis Juday, of Geneva, is a guest at the home of A. L. Burdg and family. Dr. Johnston, the osteopath, under whom Dr. H. E. Somers is practicing here, was a guest jn the city yesterday. Mrs. Samuel Hower and children left this morning for Tocsin,where she will visit a short time with her daughter. Frank Krick and C. Buffenbarger witnessed the ball game at Ft. Wayne yesterday afternoon and have returned to the city. Mapl e Grove Park entertained many visitors yesterday and all who visited this resort enjoyed the coolness of the shade afforded. Mrs. Alice Jeffrey left this morning for Fort Wayne where she will visit with her sister, Mrs. Frcang, who was operated upon last week. Rev. B. F. Kemp passed through the city enroute to his home at North Manchester, Ind., after transacting some business at Bryant. The Fourth of July will be appropriate celebrated at Monroe and Geneva and no doubt larg e crowds will be in attendance at both places. 'Misses Nona Forbing and Anna Marlin left this morning for Lewistown, Ohio, ■where" they will visit for several days with the former’s sister, Mrs. Clint Johnson. Among other prominent retail furniture dealers of Indiana whose pictures appeared in Sunday’s Indianapolis Star were John H. and Herman J. Yager of this city, George Steele left today for Lagrange. Ind., to take charge of his new store. Mr. Steele still possesses a half interest in the Steele and Weaver store here and owns the Lagrange stor e by himself. The attenton of Adams coun'y farmers is called to the fact that the Albert Walters ditch in French township, which, is nine miles in length, wili be sold at the county surveyor’s office July 3rd. The famous Brown churn people left Decatur today, going to Bluffton, where they will establish an agency as was done in this county. Mr. Getting. who secured the agency here, has already sold several churns. Messrs. W. A. Kuebler, R. E. Peters, Orval Harruff, Guy Dorwin, F. Johns. Frank Gass and several other Decatur people witnessed the ball games at Fort Wayne league park yesterday afternoon in which Evansville and Fort Wayn split even. The new’ summer schedule of the G. R. and I. went into effect yesterday, and quite a few changes are noticeable. They have added a new limited train which only stops at the principal cities, it passing through this city at 11:28 p. m. For the other changes look at the regular schedule on page three in this paper. An eclipse of the sun of wide interest occurred yesterday beginning at 9:20, which lasted until about the noon hour. The eclipse of yesterday is claimed by astronomers to be one which may not be seen again for several years to come. It was witnessed by quite a crow-d of Decatur people by looking through a smoked glass. A grand time is to be had at Maple Grove Park next Saturday, July 4. The management (has engaged, good attractions beside having arranged for an elaborate display of fireworks in the evening. Prof. DeKay, the human torch, who makes the slide for life with his clothing on fire, is scheduled for the evening’s entertainment, and an interesting time is expected.

Mrs. Ed Williams left this afternoon for Portland, where she .will make a short visit. Mrs. James Gregg went this morning to Fort Wayne where she will make a short visit. Emmett Wiley left this noon for Marlon, where he will make a pleasant visit with friends. P. S. Roberts returned to his home in Willshire this noon after transacting business here. Clarence Reynolds and son Hershel returned last night from a ten days’ trip through Oklahoma. Mrs. May Movlg of Wren, Ohio, was in the city today a short time enroute to her home at Hoagland. Margaret Todd returned to Bluffton, this noon after making a pleasant visit here with Reba Quinn. Jesse Niblick returned last night from Fort Wayne, where he witnessed the double header ball games. Mrs. Alice Walsh, of Fort ayne, was a visitor in our city Saturday and sh e has returned to her home. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Byss of Fort Wayne have come to th e city for a visit with friends and relatives. Smith went to Rome City Sunday for several weeks’ stay at their cottage. Misses Bertha Drummond and Vera Hunsicker have gone to Bluffton for a two weeks’ visit with relatives and friends. Miss Manha Myers was in the city today enroute from a several days’ visit at Fort Wayne to her home in Preble. Mrs. Herbert Lachot returned to Bowling Green, Ohio, this morning after visiting here for a few days with his parents. Mrs. R ,C. Drummond and children of Auburn, have arrived in the city for a few weeks’ visit with her sister. Mrs. Besser. Mrs. S. N. Leidy, of Cloverdale, 0., was in the city a short time today enroute to Geneva to make a visit with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. John Smith returned to Bluffton byway of Tocsin this morning after visiting here for a short time with friends. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Schafer, Mrs. Fanny Cole, Mr. H. S, Wilson and Mr. W. P. Schrock enjoyed an auto trip to Fort Wayn e Sunday. Clarence Bremerkamp left this noon for Delphos, Ohio, where he will conduct one of Staup Bros.’ five pin bowling alleys jn the near future. The five pin bowling alley of Staup Bros., which was located on Madison street, was removed today to Menden, Ohio, where this firm will run it at that place. Ray Booher, the Geneva young man who was lodged in jail some time ago upon the charge of association, was released this morning after a bond was properly signed assuring his appearance for trial. Charles Helm has returned from Greencastle, where he assisted in initiating twenty-one candidates into the I. O. O. F. order. On his way home >he stopped off over Sunday with relatives at Marion. Sun glasses were very much in evidence here Sunday, everybody apparently, young and old, taking a glimpse at the rare sight which continued about thre e hours. The eclipse covered about two-fifths of the sun. The I. O. O. F. and Rebekah orders observed their annual Decoration Day services yesterday afternoon, leaving their hall at 3 o’clock. The graves of the deceased brothers and sisters were decorated and the usual ruiuil observed. The St. Joseph's Catholic school will have its annual picnic on this coming Wednesday at the Henry Eiting grove just south of th e city and hack's to the grounds will be run by the Fashion stables to accommodate those who wish to go out to the picnic. It is an assured fact that a large crow’d will b e present.
