Congressman John A. M Adair, always a prime favorite in Adams county, seems to be even more of a favorite this year. Col. William R. Nelson, of the Kansas City Star and Times, one of the most influential newspapers in the west, says that the Chicago ticket won't do. The Indiana special train for Denver is just now an attraction for many Indiana Democrats. It will leave Indianapolis on the afternoon of July 4, over the Big Four. From Chicago to Denver the Rock Island system will be used. The trip includes a nine hours stop at Lincoln, Nebraska, during which time the party will be entertained at Bryan's beautiful country home. A few weeks ago when Bryan wrote Taft, asking him to join him in an effort to induce congress to pass a publicity bill, and the latter replied that he had already urged Senator Burrows to work for the passage of a measure of that character, the republican papers of the country all said Taft had forestalled one of Bryan's grandstand plays. But it will be observed that congress did not pass the bill and it will be observed that the republican national convention voted down the proposition to put a publicity plank in the platform by an almost unanimous vote. Now how much of a publicity man is Taft? If he is for publicity, why was it he did not have his 702 loyal men put it

BUYSRACKETSTORE —i/ i— George Steele Has Purchased the J. O. Ball Store at Lagrange DEAL IS CLOSED Mr. Steele Will Assume Charge of Same in a Few Days
George Steele, one of the progressive proprietors of the Steele and Weaver racket store, has just upturned from Lagrange, Indiana, where he purchased the racket store owned by J. O. Ball, formerly of this city. Mr. Steele has for several weeks been making advances for the purchase of the Lagrange store, but not until last evening did he close the deal, which makes him sole proprietor. Mr. Ball the retiring proprietor, enjoyed a liberal patronage w’hile in business, and it was only after he had been offered a flattering offer as a traveling salesman that he decided to sell the store. Mr. Steele will take charge of his new business place and C. J. Weaver will assume control of tflie racket store in this city. Mr. Steele has no partner in th e Lagrange store, but he will conduct same himself. He is a hustling young business man and his success in this business venture is assured.
o KERN IS TALKED OF (Continued from page 1.) will not be the open sesame of the Denver convention. The second best bet at present—some think the first —appears to be Bryan and Kern. This doesn’t mean that Kern has a big lead in the vice presidential race. The vice presidency is more or 'ess of an afterthought. and usually is not settled until after the nomination for president. No one dreamed when the delegates assembled at Chicago that Sherman would be the republican nominee for vice president.
As the 9:20 o’clock car on the interurban came in town last evening, a horse hitched to the post in front of the Holthouse Drug Co.’s store became frightened, swerving around on the sidewalk and turning the corner ran west on Monroe street and has not been heard from since. When last seen he was going as fast as his merry little legs could take him, the animal probably thinking he was running a race. It was fortunate that no one was in the rig at the time, or we would probably have a sadder story to tell now.
