FYank Hull went to Fort Wayne yesterday to visit friends for a few days. Vint Homer, of Portland, was in the city and later went to Hoagland on business. Mr. and Mrs. E. Woods went to Fort Wayne this morning to spend the day. Miss Jennie Woods left for Fort Wayne on the 7‘57 train to spend the day there. Mesdames C. M. and M. E. Hower spent the day at Fort Wayne today. They left on the 8:30 car. Representing the Huntington Business College, H. H. Hollopeter was a business caller in our city today. French Quinn, of Paragould, Ark., is in the city on a business mission, and will remain a few days. John Smithy, of St. Marys township, left for Fort Wayne on the 8:30 car to take treatment from a specialist. W r . H. Fledderjohann has returned from Cleveland, Ohio, where he has been looking after interurban business. Mrs. Morrison and Miss Hattie Studabaker left for Fort Wayne this morning on the 8:30 car to spend the day. L. Corbin, the veteran painter, has been engaged to take charge of the painting department at the Coppock Motor Car company. Fred Hayward left on the 8:30 car for Fort Wayne and Van Wert where he will look after the interests of the Decatur Packing company. A. P. Beatty went to Fort Wayne this morning to represent the defendant in the case of Erie Stone company of Huntington, against Calvin Miller. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hughes left for Sturgis, Mich., to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Force,who formerly lived here, for a few days. They were accompanied by their grandson, Glen Gessinger. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Stophlet. who have been the guests of Mr. F. W. Dibble and family for several days, returned to their home at Toledo, Ohio, by the way of Fort Wayne, where they will visit Mrs Harve P. Evans for a few days.

S. army, home on furlough, is here for a visit with his cousin, County Surveyor Harvey Sark. His home is in Adams county.—Bluffton News. . The deal for the purchase of the Kirby House in Muncie by A. M. Tyler, proprietor of the Wayne hotel in this city, has been abandoned and Mr. Tyler will devote his entire attention to the local hostelry.—Fort Wayne Sentinel. Mabel Ecker, 15 years old. daughter . of Mr. and Mrs. David Ecker, near Nappanee, has mysteriously disappeared and friends have been unable to get any trace of her whereabouts. She left a note asking her parents not to worry over her disappearance. Nathan Meyer, proprietor of the Pioneer Hat factory at Wabash, has placed his affairs in the hands of Isaac Beitman and Harmon Wolf as receivers. In a statement made to a meeting of creditors Mr. Meyer placed his liabilities at $325,000 and his assets at $355,000. Sylvester Pontius accompanied his son-in-law, Vernon Pontius to Portland city hospital Saturday, where Mr. Houser was operated on for appendicitis on Monday by Drs. Brokaw and Bockoven. Mr. Houser is recovering from the operation nicely, and it is thought will soo nbe all right again. —Geneva Herald. Articles of incorporation of the Sout: Bend and Logansport Railway company have been filed with the secretary of state. The purpose of the corporation is to build and operate a street and interurban line from South Bend to Logansport, which will pass through the towns of Lakeville. Lapaz, Plymouth, Argos and Rochester. Joseph M. Crooks, of Washington, D. C., an agent of the bureau of statistics from' Washington, D. C., is in Bluffton for the purpose of securing data for the department in which he is employed. He has spent most of the day at the offices of the Marion, Fiji iiff tip n & 'Eastern Traction company, accumulating figures on the new traction line. —Bluffton News. A meeting of the Adams county, Ind., and Mercer county, Ohio, mutual telephone people was held at Berne, Saturday. These mutual concerns are independents and non-charter organizations, and as a result are shut out from communiciation with the outside world except upon sufferance of some chartered company. The independents are making an effort to form an alliance with a view to becoming a chartered organization, in which event they become common carriers and will be entitled to common carrier privileges under the charter laws of the state. —Willshire Herald.

Reinking left for Schumm, Ohio, to attend the funeral of her father, Jacob Bienz. Miss Kittie Watts will visit over Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ladig at Fort Wayne. Miss Ena Sawyer returned to her home at Bluffton after a pleasant visit in the city with relatives. W. S. Longhenry, of Fort Wayne, returned to his home after a pleasant visit with Marsh Burdg and family. Today is Good Friday at the St. Marys church. Services were held this morning at nine o’clock and also this evening. All Knights of Columbus are requested to be present at the hall Sunday morning at 5:30 a. m. to attend in a body to Holy Communion at St. Marys church. W, H. Stnlts, of Lakeville, Indiana, came from Grainfield. Kansas. While there be purchased 320 acre farm. He formerly lived in Decatur and will visit with relatives here. A new addition has been made to the city base ball team in the person of Curley Ellis. The team will indulge in a good practice Sunday and every member must be present in uniform. The new two horse power electric motor which will be installed at the shop of F. E. Smith has been ordered and will be here in the near future. Frank is a progressive business man and he is keeping up with the times.

Rank work was conferred at the K. of P, hall last night and a delightful time was enjoyed. Today was a busy day for the St. Marys river. Many fishermen were teasing the finny tribe. Mr. McCollum, of near Geneva, was a pleasant caller in our city and he has returned to his home. Mesdames J. H. and Hilbert Hoblet cf Willshire, were in the city on business and returned home this noon. Mrs. George Morris arrived tins noon to visit with Mrs. Fred Beil. She was accompanied by her children. Charles Colter returned this noon from a business trip in the interest of the Smith and Bell Lumber company. Dr. J. M. Miller and wife left over the 1:18 train for Chicago, where the doctor will take a post graduate course in a medical college. The Ward Fence buildings are being rapidly constructed and from all appearances will be ready for occupancy by the latter part of May. John Fuhrman and children of Matthews, Indiana, who has been visiting with H. A. Fuhrman and family returned to his home this morning. Rev. and Mrs. A. B. Haist left for Olney, Illinois, this morning after being the pastor of the evangelical church for four years He will begin his new charge in the above named place. Andrew Blowers, east of town, has applied for apatent for a new brooder. It is the result of Andy’s five years’ study and work, and he certainly has an improved brooder. He calls it “The Old I’e’ Safety Brooder.” Its dimensions ..re 3 by 10 feet and 2 feet to the eave of the roof. It has so many advantages over any other kind of brooder, that it seems the invention ought to find read ysales. Frank M. Cottrell is his attorney to secure the patent, and the Berne Lumber company will be the manufacturers. — Berne Witness.

From there she will go to Pleasant Lake on Tuesday to attend a house party given by the Mesdames Crampton. I The principals in the case entitled Erie Stone company vs. Calvin Miller et al went to Fort Wayne today to Ihresh out their trtnible in court. Peterson and Moran are representing the plaintiffs, while the defendants’ interests are being taken care of by attorneys A. P. Beatty, D. D. Heller and C. J. Lutz. The case will last un- : til tomorrow night. The Euterpean club were entertained by Mrs. D, E. Studabaker at her home last evening. Mesdames C. B. Wilcox and F. M Schirmeyer had charge of the program and the lesson for the evening of the famous composer of music, Franz Listz. Officers for the ensuing year were elected and are Mrs. J. C. Patterson, president; Mrs. John Peterson, vice president; Mrs. Earl Adams, secretary and treasurer; Mrs. Nachtrieb, secretary cf correspondence. The usual attendance and interest was shown last evening. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. John Tyndall in two weeks.
