William Singer, of Dixon, Ohio, will locate in the city, having purchased the Will Lyman home on North Fifth street. He expects to go into business here probably that of buying hay. Speaking of him. the Dixon correspondent to the Monroeville Breeze says: The announcement made in our last issue that Wm. Singer had sold out at Dixon and was going to Decatur, caused a great surprise and universal regret to reign among his manyfriends and we might say the entire community as his friends extend far and near in this section. These he has won all through life and once a friend always such as he so lived and acted in all his daily walks and business relations from boyhood up to the present time were such as one can "bet” on Billy Singer, in friendship, acts, words and deeds as being the same day in and day out the year round. Honest and upright has been his motto and has so been expressed by many the past week and while it is with deep regret all hail his going there is one sentiment on the Ups of all to his credit and what is "our loss is the city of Decatur and the citizens gain.” He, for a number of years w-ith his brother conducted a general store and dealt in the purchase of hay and grain at Dixon and although adversities were their lot in having their elevators and store destroyed entirely by fire two or three times, he with his

brother, kept in good cheer built up and battled onward and upward until a year or so ago they sold out. He left his fathers farm near Dixon where he was born and raised and went to Dixon to begin business 1888 and remained in this line until 1900 continuing in the elevator business until the spring of 1905. While mingling with the busy cares of life in relation to his own business the people placed ‘such explicit confidence in him as a man to conduct public affairs that he was chosen to serve them in the capacity of Justice of Peace of Tully township, Van Wert county, Ohio, for a term of six years; president of the school board of his town for six years; Notary Public sixteen years and other offices. For years has been one among the leading members of the church and Sunday School, also a member in good standing of the order of Odd Fellows and other secret societies He, with his family, will move to his newhome which he recently purchased in the city of Decatur, in a few days and expects to engage in some line of business in that city later on. As he and his amiable companion take their departure as citizens among us they convey with them the best wishes of all for health, success and future prosperity in their new home, and resting assured that as their acquaintance with the citizens of Decatur grows in number just so will their circle of long and warm friendship. o— THE VIOLIN RECITAL. The violin recital, which will be given under the directions of Tony Holthouse at Bosse’s Opera House, i April 16th, promises to be one of those I rare musical feasts which no one can i afford to miss. JEROME IS AT IT (Continued from page 1.) this dementia Americana flaunt the woman for two long years through the capitols of Europe and then kill? Dementia Americana never hides behind the skirts of a woman.never puts a woman on the stand to lay her shame to protect it. Jerome then gave the entire story of the murder. When he came down to the point in the narrative where Thaw approached White, he picked up the exact revolver from the table, advanced toward the court stenographer and snapped the trigger three times. He then launched into a severe attack on Evelyn and incidentally he built up a defense of White which he could not offer in evidence. He sneered at Evelyn’s story of her ruin by White and sarcastically referred to Evelyn as the "Angel child” and tore to pieces her whole story of her wrongs at White's hands. ‘"White,” he said, "has been pictured as a brute, as a Doctor Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, as a ravisher of women; his life has been pictured as one round of sensuality. For such men the stimulus of reciprocated passions is needed. We have no way to show or prove whether the story of White is true or not, as told by this “Angel child.” What nonsense she of the Floradora chorus dragged into a den and drugged.” Jerome continued until late in the afternoon. The veterinary profession is much interested in a surgical operation which has been accomplished by Prof. Udriski, one of the staff of the veterinary school at Bucharest. Having amputated a horse's limb at the fetlock joint, after several failures he succeeded in fitting a leather boot or artificial limb that enabled the animal to walk about and take exercise. The Coster and the Fishwife. “Any one who sw’ears,” says the Bishop of Carlisle, “manifests the beggarliness of his vocabulary.” The greatest indignation is felt In Billingsgate and Covent Garden at this unwarranted slur on the powers of men who seldom, if ever, repeat themselves in a ten minutes’ speech.—London Globe. Fidelity of Heart. Little faithfulnesses are not only the preparation for great ones, but little faithfulnesses are in themselves the great ones. The essential fidelity of the heart is the same whether it be exercised in the mites or in a royal treasury; the genuine faithfulness of the life is equally beautiful whether it be displayed in governing an empire or in writing an exercise.—F. W. Farrar. Flight of Clouds. A member of the staff of the Blue Hill Observatory, near Boston, has reported that observations made there show that the average speed with which clouds, between 8,000 and 9,000 feet high, move is 60 miles an hour , in midsummer and 110 miles an hour in midwinter. The swiftest flight of I a cloud yet measured wee 230 miles I an hour.
