Weller, Emma jean Heichelbech, Beatrice Witte, Pauline Truelove, Edna Brown, Lula Stone, Myrtle Hildebrant, Louanna Kaiser, and Miss Mabel Wedeking. Frizes for high score were awarded Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hildebrant. A lovely lunch was served after four tables were played.
The first five grades observed Valentine’s Day with home room parties where colorful red and white Valentine boxes were displayed, refreshments were eaten, and plenty of pretty valentines were received. All enjoyed a happy time.

Mrs. Kerr, formerly Frances Lubbehusen, a graduate of ’33, was recent visitor of D. H. S. Mrs. G. M. Willison also visited on Friday afternoon. E. A. Richardson, Indiana’s poet laureate, told anecdotes, gave readings, and sang songs to an appreciative assembly on Lincoln’s birthday. Two patriotic songs, “We’ll Have Fun” and “Hello Indiana” and a reading “Lincoln the Hoosier” were very favorably received.
Third and fourth grades have completed their social studies unity “The Needs of Man” and have a very nice exhibit made representing food, clothing and shelter.
M|rs. H. F. Knott was hostess for three tables of bridge at her home Wednesday evening. Those present were Mesdames Emma Linhardt, Catherine Elliott, Anna Weitkamp, Nerva Heichelbech, Willia Elliott, C. M. Sprinkle, Mary Dougan. Prize were awarded Mrs. Heichelbech, Mrs. Linhardt, and Mrs. Dougan. A delicious buffet luncheon was served before the cards.
Mrs. Lyle Kinsey and daughter Mary Lou were visitors in Mrs. Roell's room on Friday afternoon. Folders describing the methods of salvaging tin cans were distributed to the students and others. A bin will be provided for the accumulations at the school. A county truck will pick up the cans once each week. The Federal Conservation Department conducted a half day school Tuesday in forest fire fighting for 30 boys. Lectures, movie films, and the use of fire fighting tools were features of the program.
A girl's sextette, by Mrs. Childs, sang two popular patriotic numbers, the D. H. S. drummers led the parade, and Harvey Nord sounded taps at the Lincoln Memorial as their contributions to a program commemorating the Great Emancipator’s birthday. The freshman English class who have been studying Scott’s narrative poem “The Lady of the Lake” will begin their study of Arnold’s poem “Sohrab and Rustum”. C. M. Sprinkle’s class in “New Practical Chemistry” is studying the solid fuels; coal, coke, wood, and charcoal; the liquid fuels, gasoline, kerosene, and fuel oils, and fuel gases and acetylene. Many enjoyed the motion picture, “The Last Outpost” given during E. C. on Tuesday afternoon. Students especially liked the setting which was in Burma, India and on the Sudan region in Africa. The grade children appreciated the comedy “Betty Boop”.

Sprinkle and Glenn Dougan were hostesses for their bridge club at the home of Mrs. Dougan Thursday evening with Mesdames Blanch Bockstahler, Mildred Martin, Mae Weller, Hazel Fuller and Miss Mabel Wedeking as special guests. Prizes for high score were awarded Mesdames Mildred Martin, Elizabeth Harper, and Catherine Elliott, with travel going to Mrs. C. M. A delicious dinner was served by the hostesses before bridge was played.

Mr. and Mrs. Ora Truelove were sponsors for their bridge club at their home Tuesday evening followed by a chicken supper at the Chauteau. Prizes for high score were awarded Mesdames Leo Helchelbech, P. W. Brown, Bertram Kuntz, Miss Mabel Wedeking and Leo Heichelbech. A most enjoyable evening was spent by everybody.
Rev. W. F. Brown of Georgetown visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Brown this week.
Mesdames Tip Harper and Howard Harper were hostesses for a four table bridge at the home of the former Friday evening. Those present were Mesdames Lola Cooper, Eunice Knott, Lenore Tevault, Hazel Fuller, Pauline Truelove, Esther Pennington, Hazel Taylor, Nerva Heichhelbech, Louanna Kaisef, Mae Wellfcr, Margareta Kuntz, Lula Stone, Misses Mabel Wedeking and Estelle Richardson. High score prizes were awarded Mesdames Esther Pennington, Lula Stone, Louanna Kaiser and Miss Mabel Wedeking, with the travel prize going to Mrs. Nerva Heichelbech. Lovely refreshments served by the hostesses.

Juniors in advanced sewing are making a street dress, a coat suit, or a formal gown; the literature classes are reading local color short stories the refresher arithmetic class is solving perplexing problems, shorthand students are blending, and typing classes are working budgets four and five. The girls' basketball teams “The Blue Bombers” and the “Spitfires” played their first basketball game on Feb. 10, as a preliminary to the Rockport vs. Dale game. The “Spitfires” were victorious with a SQore 14-6. These girls hope to play at the last home game, which
Victor Kitchen arrived here Friday night from Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., near Indianapolis, because of lye burns received on his arm. He is with his wife and baby at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Parvin Smith.

Mrs. Andy Schum Jr., who has been in St, Mary's hospital because of a severe attack of the flu, was able to be brought home last Saturday, She is improving nicely.
