INSECTS IN THE GARDEN
Many garden insects have begun to put in their appearance in the Victory Gardens. E. F. Downen, county agricultural agent, is urging that each gardner arm himself with a hand dust gun and declare war on these insects which cause the damage. Rotenone Sulfur will destroy 8590 per cent of the harmful insects if applied as a dust at the proper time. This insecticide can be purchased at all stores handling spray and dust materials.

VICHY, FRANCE—Pixpage—In a move seen in some quarters as a checkmate to any attempt Pierre Laval might make to use the armed forces of France on the side of the Nazis, Marshal Petain (left), Chief of State, made Admiral Jean Darlan (right) head of all French naval, land and air forces. Although the Admiral is violently anti-British, it is felt here that he would never consent to such outright armed collaboration with the traditional foe of his country.
CUCUMBER, MELON GROWERS WARNED TO PREPARE FOR BEETLE “BLITZ”
The striped cucumber beetle is expected to come out of hibernation and stage its spring “blitz” as soon as cucumber and melon plants peep through the ground. These little yellow and black beetles not only eat the young seedlings and growing plants but also carry the dreaded cucurbit wilt disease of cantaloupes and cucumbers.
12” GUN ON CORREGIDOR
MAKE EVERY PAY DAY WAR BOND DAY
STOP SPENDING----SAVE DOLLARS
Since the beetles' “spring offensive" will soon get under way, now is the time to order materials and dusting equipment, and be prepared to meet this insect enemy as soon as it appears. Do not let the beetles feed on the plants, they carry wilt disease organisms in their bodies and a few nibbles may be sufficient to infect the plants and cause them to die later on from the disease.
Ten boys in the Santa Claus Camp Ground community organized their 4-H Club Saturday, May 2, and secured Reverend Brittingham as their leader.
Rotenone sulfur applied with a hand duster will give good control of this pest. Start dusting as soon as the plants come through the soil and dust each five to seven days afterward.
