Principals in the gay and colorful operetta “Tulip Time” are Roscoe Kissel, Helen Hemmer, Mary Lou Linhardt, Louis Lubbehusen, Melba Winkler, Wallace Schaaf, Paul Johnson, Gail Witte, and Margie Walraven. Other students appear in choruses as Dutch villagers, American tourists, and flower girls. Don’t miss the song hits “Tulip That I Love”, “Maybe and Maybe Not”, and “As Long as the Windmills Turn”. The dialogue is excellent and all school song birds will warble their sweetest on Tuesday night, February 24. Come and bring your friends.
Fifth and sixth grade pupils made red and blue shields with white mounts of Lincoln and Washington to display on their bulletin boards on Feb. 12 and Feb. 22, the birthdays of America’s greatest men. The primary grades made patriotic silhouettes and U. S. Flags.

2 cups drained, l/4 cup finely cut flaked salmon, green pepper freshly cooked or canned (1-lb. can) 3/4 teaspoon salt 6 tablespoons uncooked, 1/8 teaspoon pepper rolled oats 3/4 cup Pet Milk
The seniors are working hard on annual sales. The annual is to be a good one this year. A 50c deposit made on the annual now, a,nd the balance of 75c paid when the books are received, which will be sometime in March, is all it takes to get one of the “splendeferous” books.
For the past week the agriculture boys have been judging poultry in preparation for the coming poultry judging contest.
Turn on oven and set at slow (325° F.). Grease six 3-inch muffin tins. Put salmon in mixing bowl. Add oats, green pepper, salt, pepper and milk. Mix thoroughly, then divide among the greased muffin tins. Bake 35 minutes, or until mixture is firm to the touch. Loosen sides and let stand about 5 minutes. Garnish each with slice of hard-cooked egg, if desired. Serve at once with Creamed Peas (See Below). Serves 6.
The final teachers’ institute is to be held in the court house assembly room, Sat., Feb. 21. The Dale school band is to furnish music for the occasion. Dr. Dearing, president of Oakland City College, is the principal speaker.
C. E. Bockstahler, who teaches history and geography and Mrs. Willard Roell, third and fourth grade teacher, are taking “Supervision of the Elementary Curriculum” and “Administration of the Elementary School,” extension courses given by Dr. Dahle, of Indiana University, at Jasper on Saturday.
On Wednesday during the last period grades 7 to 12 assembled in the gym, where they were led in rousing cheers for the Golden Aces by Jeanette Medcalf, Malee Medcalf, and Kathleen Thorpe. The band also played “White Cliffs of Dover”, “Them Basses”, and “ On O’ Dale”. Coach Livengood gave an encouraging pep talk, so all were in trim to win the Ace-Wildcat encounter.
Rev. C. J. Scherzer, pastor of St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church, Vincennes, Indiana, is to be the commencement speaker, chosen by the class of ’42.
Creamed Peas
3 caps drained peas, 3 tablespoons flour freshly cooked or 3/4 teaspoon salt canned 1/8 teaspoon pepper 1 1/2 tablespoons 3/4 cup liquid off butter or other peas or water shortening 3/4 cup Pet Milk
The sophomore home economics class have been having a good time and are also learning very much by having the first and second grades visit them, to teach them games.
Miss Lloyd from Richland, a student of Indiana State Teacher’s College, is doing practice teaching with Miss Weedman this week.
A picture show was enjoyed by the commercial students on Monday, Feb. 9. It showed the amateur champion typist, a girl who types 200 words a minute, demonstrating the use of the typewriter. Mr. Livengood will show two more pictures on shorthand and the use of office machines to his and Mr. Weller’s classes.
Drain and save liquid from peas. Melt butter in saucepan. Blend in flour, salt and pepper. Stir in liquid off peas. Boil 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in milk. Add drained peas and heat thoroughly, but do not boil. Serve at once. Serves 6.
Hilbert Graman, a senior of ’42 enlisted in the Naval Reserves Wednesday. Next Friday he will go to Indianapolis for a physical examination. He will graduate in April, and then will leave for 6 months training, probably at the Great Lakes training station.
At last! the band uniforms have arrived. Promptly, upon arrival of the complete outfits, the band members donned the uniforms and paraded to every nook and corner of the building. The school was given a good “look, see” and in turn gave the band members the glad hand. Proud? yes siree! and rightly so.

The band, accompanied by their director, Mr. Sewall, will go to Rockport, Saturday, Feb. 21, to play for the Spencer County Teachers' Institute. In their allotted time they will play an overture, marches, and a patriotic medley.
On Wednesday night, the Chrisney Wildcats invaded the Dale High Gym only to return to Chrisney with three defeats received from three determined Dale groups of players. Although the playing was not superb, the Aces had the upper-hand in the varsity game to defeat the strong quintette from Chrisney.
Miss Estelle Richardson and Mrs. Olin Cooper entertained three tables of bridge at their home Tuesday evening, having as guests, Mesdames Esther Pennington, Emma Jean Heichelbech, Ann Griffith, Myrtle Hildebrant, Elizabeth Harper, Hazel Wright, Lula Stone, Mae Weller, Earline Harper, Hazel Taylor, Bertha K. Smith, Misses Katherine Tuley, and Mabel Wedeking. Lovely refreshments were served after the four tables of bridge. Prizes for high score which were Defense Stamps, were awarded Miss Katherine Tuley and Mrs. Heichelbech.
Mrs. Irvin Kokomoor entertained her bridge club at her home Tuesday evening, having Miss Mildred Wibbler as a special guest. High score prizes were awarded Mesdames Margie Kuntz, Barbara Schum and Charline Harris. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess.

Both are volunteering their services; the stamps are for sale to all grades and are available through Mrs. Barnes in her room.
Before the sectional, Dale will have games with Cannelton and Princeton, each game on the opponents home floor, Feb. 19 and 20, respectively.
