MANY ENJOY 4-H CAMP LAST WEEK AT SANTA CLAUS

A group of sixty-four 4-H club members and twelve leaders from Spencer, Perry, and Dubois Counties, enjoyed the first 4-H Camp to be held at the Santa Claus Camp Ground, from August 12-15.

The camp day began with reveille at 5:30, followed by swimming for those who were wide awake by that time. After breakfast, classes in handicraft, health, recreation and beginning swimming were held. After lunch the campers, who were divided into six groups, took part in organized recreation, including softball, horseshoe, vol-ley-ball, and ping pong. At 3:30 in the afternoon swimming period began and lasted until time to get ready for supper.

Vespers were held eash evening. On Tuesday night the service was conducted by Rev. Fehrenkamp. Rev. Engleibrecht was in charge on Wednesday night and Rev. Kerr on Thursday. After vespers each evening a program was given. Oh Tuesday night moving pictures were shown. Mr. Leo Lubbehusen, of the Wildlife Conservation Department, gave an illustrated talk on wildlife on Wednesday night. On the same program Mr. Elmer Pruess gave a chalk talk which was enjoyed by all. Thursday was stunt night with each group and the leaders taking part in the program. Everyone seemed to be sorry to leave the camp and hoped that another will be held next year.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hay and daughter of Evansville were visitors here Sunday evening after attending the Schaaf reunion at the Santa Claus Camp Grounds.

Mrs. Leonard Walker of Mariah Hill spent Wednesday with Mrs. Lydia, Walter and family.

Logan Marshall and family of Terre Haute are enjoying a visit with the former’s sisters, Mesdames Rust and Lane and Miss Marshall.
