Rev. Andrew Bauer, O. S. B., of Mariah Hill will observe his 25th anniversary as pastor of Mary, Help of Christians Church at that place next Sunday, August 10.

At 9 A. M., Father Andrew will be the celebrant of a Solemn High Mass after which a dinner for the visiting clergy will be served in the parish hall. Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter, Bishop of Indianapolis, will be present; also Rt. Rev. Ignatius Esser, 0. S. B., Abbot of Saint Meinrad and Very Rev. Basil Heusler, O. S. B., dean of the Jasper deanery. The day is also the occasion of the annual Mariah Hill parish picnic. Chicken dinner will be served at noon; also the famous Mariah Hill turtle soup.

Father Andrew was born in Waidhaus Bavaria, Germany and made his early studies (gymnasium) at Amberg in Bavaria. At the age of 18 he came to America (1889) to St. Meinrad Benedictine Scholastiate and later made his novitiate vows as a member of the Order of St. Benedict. He was ordained in 1897 and was assigned as professor in the college and seminary at St. Meinrad. He taught liturgy, moral and canon law, until he was appointed pastor of Mariah Hill. During the past ten years he has been teaching parttime at the Seminary, making the seven-mile trip to St. Meinrad several times a week.

As pastor of Mariah Hill he built the parish hall, built an addition to the rectory, improved the cemetery, planted a grove on the church grounds, installed a new organ, stations and many other improvements in the church. The parish is free of debt.

Father Andrew is very well known in St. Joseph’s parish, having frequently preached Forty Hours devotion here, and is always present at Forty Hours St. Joseph’s day, and St. Anne’s day celebrations here to preach, hear confessions or sing high Mass. He is now 70 years of age and is in excellent health. Ad multos annos.— Jasper Herald.

A word of warning is directed to the prospective exhibitors at this year’s Fair. Don’t forget the deadline on entries is midnight. Wednesday, August 13. Indications point to a record entry this year, with the fine crops and increased interest in art, science and other fields. Why not make your entry right now? It will lighten the load on the clerks who will be deluged with last minute entries.
