Mrs. Gilbert Heady and Miss Jeanette Thorpe were joint hostesses for a miscellaneous shower Friday evening complimentary to Mrs. Ralph Wahl at her newly furnished home in Stringtown. A large number of friends were present and a nice number of gifts were received. Lovely refreshments were served during the evening.

Mrs. Wallace Wellmeyer was in Dale the first of the week. She has returned to New Albany, where she will make her home with her husband Wallace Wellmeyer, who has employment at the Charlestown Powder Plant. Mrs. Wellmeyer was formerly Gladys Williams.

Each member is asked to bring an extra dollar, above that which they have already been paying, to help put our finances in fine shape for our annual conference, which is just three weeks away, August 20. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Hasenour attended the funeral of the former’s uncle, Frank Schuck at Schenville Sunday.

Mrs. Linda Heilman underwent a minor operation at the Stork hospital in Huntingburg Thursday.

Misses Fern Reinhart and Viola Springstun spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reinhart at Evansville.

Prayer meeting Wednesday evening. The Ladies Aid will meet Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. Andy Epple of Greely, Colo. is visiting her mother Mrs. A. E. Haskins and other relatives in Dale for a couple weeks.

Pear and Cheese Salad Broadcast by Mary Lee Taylor, July 31,1941 8 pear halves, fresh 3/4 cup Pet Milk or canned (No. 2 1/2 can) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 package lemon- l/8 teaspoon pepper flavored gelatin 1 cup boiling water 3 tablespoons salad 21/2 cups grated oil American cheese 3 tablespoons (1/2 lb,) vinegar

Drain pears. Save juice to use in sauces or beverages. Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Let stand while preparing the following mixture: Mix together cheese, milk, salt and pepper. Cook over boiling water, stirring until cheese is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in salad oil. Add vinegar slowly. Then stir in gelatin mixture gradually. Chill until mixture begins to thicken. Rub with salad oil a mold holding about 6 cups. Stand pear halves upright around edge of oiled mold. Fill prepared mold with thickened cheese mixture. Chill until firm. Unmold and serve on lettuce. Serves 6.

Mrs. Edwin Merkel has returned to her home in Detroit, Mich., after spending the past two weeks with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Schum Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Griffith are visiting friends in Kingman, Kansas. They are making the trip with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Heady and family, who will visit Lloyd’s parents in Kingman.
