AUTOMOBILES and WAR There have been more people killed by automobiles in the past year than American soldiers killed in the World War, and very little is being done about it. It is true we have our Safety Council and traffic officers and some safety laws but the killing goes steadily on. Recently automobiles were observed going through a nearby town at a varying from forty to seventy five miles per hour, in spite of the fact that there were a, number of cbildern playing along the road.

The modern automobile is a thing of power and speed and to allow men and women, who have no sense of speed or distance, to drive them upon our highways and through towns is to invite disaster. Accidents seldom happen leisurely but with a snddeness that affords little time tor thought and the driver who is not really qualified is often the factor that decides for life or death.

The problem of safety on the highway is one that cannot be settled over night but requires much study; in the mean time let every driver do his or her part.
