Pearl James, of Lebanon, is spending a few days with his parents at this place.
Mrs. Lora Byrd and daughter, of Raccoon, did some papering for Mrs. Anna Welsh this week.
Several from here attended the dedication of the Baptist church at Brown's Valley last Sunday.
Mrs. Alta Rush and little daughter, of Russellville, spent last week with her sister, Mrs. Anna Wilson.
Fred Kincaid and family spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mrs. Kincaid's parents in Crawfordsville.
Karl James and Elmer Hester attended the party last Saturday night given at the home of Miss Lillian Byrd, near Ladoga.
Last Friday being the last day of our school the patrons planned a surprise on our teacher, Miss Sadie Quinn, of Crawfordsville. At 11:30 o'clock about thirty gathered at the school house with well filled baskets and marching in found Miss Quinn in the back part of the room hearing a class recite. To her it was a complete surprise. When the table was spread all did ample justice to the excellent dinner. In the afternoon the children carried out a very interesting programme consisting of speeches, songs, and dialogues. Miss Quinn has taught a very successful term and we are all proud to think that she will be with us again next winter.

Miss Minta Barnett is no better. William Harp is planting corn this week.
Mrs. Ftta Turpin is some better and is improving 6lowly. Miss Hattie Layne spent Sunday with Miss Edith Compton.
Mrs. William Harp called on Mrs. Etta Turpin Tuesday. It is rumored that the old bachelors will move in their summer resort.
Lemuel Ocheltree spent Sunday with his father and mother at Wingate. Messrs. Robert and John Weir are putting in a piece of corn across the creek.
Mrs. Martha Johnson has been attending her sick daughter, Mrs. Etta Turpin.
Alpha Merrill and wife were on our streets Wednesday looking for a place to locate.

Wm. Bell has given up the sextonship at the M. E. church and Milton Wheeler assumes the responsibilities instead.
Masters Gould and George Washburn returned Friday from a visit with their uncle, Bennett Engle, of Crawfordsville.
Dr. Davidson and family and D. W. Gerard and wife, of Crawfordsville, were guests of Mat Davidson and family Sunday.
John McG&llum, of Linden, administrator of the estate of Mellie McCallum, has had the property appraised and ordered it sold.
C. N. Boyland and family moved back to Crawfordsville Monday, and Dan Cleveland moved into the house vacated by Mr. Boyland.
John Plunkett, of Lafayette, will work in Livingston's livery barn this summer. He will move his family here as soon as he can get possession of a house.
Wm. Burris and wife returned from the Martinsville springs Thursday, where they have been taking treatment. They are but slightly improved in health.
Mrs. Amos Ebrite went to Indianapolis Sunday. She was accompanied home Monday by Mrs. S. E. Williams, of Crawfordsville, who remained for a few days' visit.
Joe Shumaker moved from Crawfordsville last week into the Perry Wills property lately purchased by T. M. Foster. Mr. Shumaker will go into the livery business.
Mrs. Wood Shepherd, of Sugar Grove, took carbolic acid Saturday and for a time little hopes were had of her recovery. At present she is improving.
Miss Vera Moulder will entertain her young friends at her home Tuesday evening, May 21, that being the 13th anniversary of her birth. Invitations have been issued.
A. D. Snyder has moved his stock of buggies, wagons, etc., from the old barn building into the old tin shop, preparatory to the construction of a mammoth brick structure.
John Little, of Waynetovvn, is here, moving the old livery barn from its present location to a lot further south, owned by Boswell Clough. It will be fitted up and occupied by Geo. Livingston in his livery business.
The ten-weeks-old baby of Hi 11aborn and wife died Sunday morning of scarlet fever. Mr. Raborn is badly afflicted vith rheumatism, and his wife and remaining child very ill with the scarlet fever. They have the sympathy of the community.
The ladies of Ashland Temple, No. 160, Rathbone Sisters, presented the play, "Tho Peak Sisters," at the opera house Saturday evening to a large audience. The play was well rendered and was highly appreciated. The proceeds go to the of P. orphans' home fund. Receipts, 831.00.

Mrs. George Hull entertained friends from Illinois the past week. Misses Pearl and Myrtle Hurley took dinner with J. Freeman Sunday.
Mrs. Lon Stout and baby were guests of Mrs. George Shanklin Tuesday. The friends of Jim Swearengen are sorry to hear of his serious illness.
Mrs. Ella Warner was the guest of Mrs. Dumont Kennedy Wednesday. Tom Swearingen has moved into the tenant house on the farm of Wm. Hurley.
Mrs. Elsie Vaughn is spending apart Of the week with her aunt, Mrs. Kelly Hall.
A wheel party from Crawfordsville spent Thursday eveng at Wm. Sidener's.
June Armantrout, Emma Priebe and the children at John Snyder's have the measles.

We.wish we might be able to announce a new church at this place. It is surely needed.
Mrs. A. Duncan and Mrs. Lon Ambrose, of Crawfordsville, were guests among us last week.
Rev. A. W. Runyau and wife, with Mrs. J. Shue iind Anna, of Crawfordsville, were callers on Mrs. Hurley Friday.
The friends of Mr. Lawson rejoice that he came through the runaway with no more serious damages than a broken rib. He is doing nicely.
The thunder storm of the past week played havoo with the telephone lines out this way.

have been put in and this is quite a busy switch board. Earl Hurley has been feasting on spring chicken, frog hams, mushrooms and all the delicacies of the season. He has been very Jsick the past week, but is better at this writing.
Howard Munns. Walter Siedner, Andy Morrison and Lottie Jones attended the dedication of the church at Brown's Valley Sunday and are loud in their
praise of the hospitality of the people and they report the exercises very good.
The Wesley church members are to be congratulated on their business activity. The proposed new church will be beautiful as well as comfortable and an honor to the community.

Brother Enoch Hogate, P. G. M. of the I. O. O. F. of this state, will deliver the memorial address for the Odd Fel lows at this place on Sunday, June 2nd at 2 o'clock p. m. Everybody is cordi ally invited to come out and hear this talented speaker and learn something about Odd Fellowship.

Lala Hopper is with Mrs. Luther Booher again for the summer. Mrs. Joe Shaver spent a'few days in Darlington the last of the week.
Walter Camden is in our midst this week hunting work, easily found. Miss Mary Shannon visited friends in Ladoga and vicinity last week.
Mrs. Eva Cain ha3 almost entirely recovered from a surgical operation. The C. E. society of Bethel church Sunday evening, voted to send their pastor, Rev. A. S. Buchanan, to the International Christian Endeavor con vention at Cincinnati in July, and pay his expenses. He was agreeably sur prised and very grateful.

Peter Stephens and James Sandy, of Advance, were here Saturday. Jesse Morrison and Charley Johnson were at Crawfordsville Monday afternoon.
Richard Higgina, George Swisher, and Joe Stipe were at Crawfordsville Wednesday.
The KDights of Pythias have purchased the Morrison, Ronk & Co. store room building. Consideration $1,000.
The ladies' aid society of the Christian church will give an ice cream social at this place on the evening of May 25.
Trustee Brown wishes it understood that the law prohibiting the running at large of stock, horses, mules, pigs, sheep, or goats will be enforced, and the supervisors have been instructed to take up all animals as aforesaid at large and put into a lot, and owners will be required to pay one dollar each for the release of said animals.
John Davis, of Leb&non, was killed by a Big Four train near Lebanon Tuesday. His remains were brought here Wednesday afternoon and interred at the Dunkard cemetery, south of here. The deceased was well known here, being raised south of town. He was a brother of Joshua Davis, who lives two miles south of New Ross.
Mrs. Marna Baker Barnett, who died in Missouri Tuesday, was brought to New Ross on afternoon Big Four train Wednesday and taken to the residence of her mother, southwest of here. The interment took place Thursday at the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Mrs. Barnett was well known and esteemed here by all who made her acquaintance, having spent the most of her life near here.
RURAL ROUTE NO-2-
Elmer Mack is able to drive the milk wagon again. Mrs. Brant has over forty turkeys and more hatching.
Rev. Mater delivered a most interest ing sermon at Otterbein. Mrs. Wilson has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Emma Oliver.
The Ladies' Aid Society will meet at Otterbein Tuesday afternoon. Lawrence and Effie Brant spent Sunday at Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Peterson's.
Warner Davidson thinks that it will be too late to plant corn after this week. Quite a number along the route are having the Home 'phones put in this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Coppage, of Crawfordsville, attended church at Whitesville Sunday.

Lee Hayes has purchased a new harrow and riding cultivator. Joe Galey, of Wingate, was the gue'st of A1 Utterback last Tuesday.
James Swank is getting ready to build another room to his store. If the hucksters keep coming there will soon be one for every house.
Charley GolT sold 12 head of fat'eattle to Albert Snyder of New Richmond. Miss Gertrude Miller gave a party on last Tuesday evening for the young folks.
Quite a crowd of young people took dinner with Miss Ida Moore on last Sunday.
Wm. Woods and wife were the guests of Andrew Jones and family on last Sunday.
Charley Swank and Sam Biddle bought 40 acres of land from Pearl Vaughn.
George Widener, Bert Fowler, Roscoe Fuller and Chelcea Utterback sport new buggies.
James McDaniel and Will Larew have formed a partnership at Elmdale to paint buggies.
The band of Little Workers of. the Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Charley GofT on last Saturday evening.
Albert Ames is having bad luck with his horses. He bought a work horse recently and it died and the other day he lo3t a young colt.
George Vancleave and family, of Melott, were theguests of James Saunders and family and Mrs. Etta Vancleave and son, Lenna, on last Sunday.
Grandpa Phillips callod on his son John this week at this place, and was called to Waynetown to see one of his brothers-in-law who is not expected to live.
Bert Woods and Homer Biddle returned home Tuesday from Terre Haute where they have been going to school. Their school was closed on account of smallpox.
Mr. Scott and a friend of his, employes of the Nicholson gallery, took dinner with the scribe and family Tuesday. After dinner he took a picture of the scribe's residence.
A. J. Utterback was taken sick with a pain in his back Saturday evening while feeding hit, stock. Dr. Olin was called Sunday morning and found A1 suffering considerable pain. His friends are glad to know that he is bettor at this writing.

Jas, Retnley purchased a fine rubber tire buggy of Ira Booher last week. Gill Boots and John Clouser sheared sheep for Dr. Dunnington Monday.
Alex Bails and wife and Miss Carrie Holt spent Sunday in Crawfordsville. Charles Cook bought a fine young horse of Claude Booher last week for $00.
Harry Drake will soon go to Linden to superintend a big lot of ditching there.

Mrs. Nancy Chrisman had a very serious attack of congestion of the brain last Tuesday night and has been quite poorly for tho past week, but Is again able to be out.
Green & Co., of Franklin Mill, are doing a big business now. They have purchased a lot of now machinery and made considerable improvements about the mill and they are now making first class flour.
