Little Misses Pearl Riley and Ethel Hamilton, of White Church neighbor hood, visited the school at Bowers Thursday.
Uncle John Kirk's familiar face was welcomed at this place Wednesday. We are truely glad to know he is able to be on our streets again.
Everett Carson and Miss Maude Hamilton went to Monroe Sunday evening. Miss Maude will visit with her uncle's family for a few days.
John Holloway and wife have returned to their home at Lafayette after a pleasant visit with the families of Wm. Gorden and Billy Bundy.

1 Mrs. Dr. J. L. Brown was given a surprise by her many relatives and friends on Tuesday, it being her birthday. She received many fine presents and the day was pleasantly spent.
Daniel Gilkey died at his home, one mile north of Alamo. Sunday, Feb. 10, 1001, of heart disease. Ho was ailing for two years and endured his suffering patiently. He was a veteran of the civil war, a member of the Presbyterian church, a kind husband and father, an honorable citizen. He leaves a wife, four daughters and one son.

Miss Minnie Washburn has returned home after a visit of a few days with friends and relatives near Wallace.
Mr. and Mrs. ftobert 'Smith, Mrs. D. W. Kirkendall and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Wray were callers at Jasper Whitesell's Sunday afternoon.
Some say that Mr. Groundhog did not see his shadow on the 2d inst., but the writer thinks he did if he was out about ii: 1.3 a. m.. for the sun shone for about live minutes. Consequently Mr. Hog is now in his den awaiting further developments.

Mrs John Harris has concluded her visit with her daughter, Mrs. John Carroll, and returned to her home near Lutheran church.
Sunday school and church was dismissed here last Sunday that the friends and neighbors of Mrs. Frank Cox could attend her funeral, which was conducted at Kingsley chapel Sunday morning by Rev. Reeder, of Mace

knew her best and loved her most. The death of Rev. Wm. Cox, of Winchester, a well known minister of Friends' church, was received with re gret a few days ago. A number of times he had visited the church at this place, and perhaps conducted two of the most successful revival services here that was ever held by any minister. His sickness of several weeks'

Oscar K. Kelley. an old New Ross boy, will lecture for the benefit of the ladies' aid society of the Christian church on Friday night, Feb 22, at 7 o'clock. His subject is,"Did the Whale I Swallow Jonah?" The lecture is recommended by the press in highest terms, and being an interesting subject, coupled with the interest the community feels in the speaker, assures a large attendance. The Ladies' Aid society meet Tuesday afternoon at the church. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Mollie Chesterson's the second Tuesday in March.
Mr. McMullen has bought the farm where Charley Wingert now lives. He will move in the spring1. The farm used to be owned by Mr. McMullen's brother.

On account of the inclemency of the weather the programme to be given for the observance of Christian Kruleavor day was postponed until Feb. 17th, at 7 p. ra. All invited.
Friends of the Baird family prepared dinner at Thomas Young's last Thursday for all the friends who came from New Ross to attend the funeral of Mrs. Mary Baird. One by one the dear old friends are passing away.
Charles Hopper's friends will be glad to know that he is still doing well at Thorntown and that he has just moved into a house he just purchased, meaning to dwell under his own vine and fig tree hereafter.
Mrs. James Grimes, nee EllaClouser, died last Monday after along eiege of typhoid fever. Some weeks ago she very kindly went to help take care of her sister-in-law who had the fevor,and contracting the disease herself gave up her life in consequence. The sympa thies of his friends go out to the broken hearted husband and little daughter.
