Mrs. Jane Brewer, of New Market, spent Saturday night and Sunday at G. W. Conrad's.

Mrs. Tom Maguire was at Darlington Tuesday. Rev. Crowder dined with Mart Petro and family Sunday.

Miss Fannie Cliff and sister from Illinois, are visiting at Frank Cook's. Bob Dykes has at last secured a place to move, on the Cornelius Morrison farm.

Frank Cook and family and visitors spent Saturday evening at Jerome Martz.

Mr. Hoffman, from Lafayette, came to Jerome Mart/. Monday to visit them .several days.

Quite a number from this vicinity attended the funeral of ex-Governor J. A. Mount at Crawfordsville Saturday.

News came Tuesday evening that William Price was dead. Another old soldier gone. They are droping oft' one by one.

J. A. Dodd, Jerome Mart/, and wife and Miss Margaret Morrison attended the funeral of ex-Governor Mount at Crawfordsville Saturday. -James Maguire and wife will start on a visit to Mrs. Maguire's parents near Lebanon in a few days. John Miller and wife will keep house for them while they are gone.

At the Christian church last Sunday morning and night Rev. Jackman delivered two excellent sermons.

Billy Hicks spent the day with Sam Wells, who is quite sick with lung fever.

William Hicks and wife returned to their home in Indianapolis Saturday after an extended visit with friends and relatives.

A new telephone line has been constructed southwest of New Market, the parties being Joe Vancleave, Mr. Hall, Mr. Cormer and George Gentry.

Clay Reeves, of south of New Market, has moved to Russellville where he has purchased a half interest in the furniture and undertaking establishment.

Miss Mary Coons died Sunday morning at six o'clock after a lingering illness of several months. The funeral was conducted at the Christian church Tuesday morning at ten o'clock by Rev. A. W. Cormer, interment at the Indian Creek Hill cemetery.

The brothers and sisters of Mary Coons request their uncle, Frank P. Brown, to express their gratitude and thankfulness to their many kind friends and especially to Dr. Walden for the faithful attention they gave their dear sister during her long and painful illness. .....

Uncle John Hannah is improving. Mrs. Martha Gof is on the sick list. Robert Gofl had the grip last week. Sant Moody, of Waveland. was here Monday.

James Shrader, of Crawfordsville, was in town Monday. Harry Kelsey went to Danville, 111., Monday to attend school.

Uncle Henry Williams went to Kentucky last week on a visit. The Baptist church will soon be comI pleted and will be very nice.

Miss Nannie Davis is visiting at Rev. Brown's, at Greencastle, this week, Errie Bavless and Miss Iva Campbell went to New Market Sunday night.

Mrs. Lottie Kelsey, of Russellville, was a guest at James Birch's Wednesday.

The variety supper at Mr. Taylor's Friday night was well attended. They took in $16.

Tolbert Campbell, of Yountsville, was the guest of his mother Friday night and Saturday.

Miss Maggie Smith, who has been visiting Miss RufTner, returned to Waynetown Monday.

Mrs. Jacob McGaughey went to Frankfort Monday to visit her son, George Hartman, who is very sick.

Rev. Brown will be here and there will be preaching Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night. Everybody invited to attend.

Joseph Russell and family will move to Crawfordsville soon. They will be mis9ed, as they are good neighbors. Mr. Russell will take up the ministerial work there.

Frank Waugh and family were at Crawfordsville Wednesday. Isaac Bowen still continues very low with no hopes of his recovery.

Silas Dnnbar, jr., is hauling and shipping his baled hay from this place. Miss Bertha Ghent is visiting her parents near Lafayette for a few days.

Bert Hedge and family have returned home after a two weeks' visit with Mrs. Hedge's parents at Lizton.

Grandma Bailey is almost helpless at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Ware, the result of rheumatism.

Frank Corns and family, of Garfield, visited Mrs. Corns' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Ware, at this place over Sunday.

Billy Bundy and family and Mr. Abe Bundy attended the birthday dinner given in honor of Mrs. Maggie Simpson near Colfax, last Saturday.

Billy Bundy, one of our hustling merchants. thinks he has more irons in the fire than he can keep hot, so he will not run huckster wagon No. 2.

Johnny Hutchinson has not quit running his store and the postofiice, but is going to sell machinery along with his other business. See him before harvest.

Jess Guntle and wife are the proud parents of a nice little girl baby which came to brighten their home Monday morning. Dr. Ware reports mother and babe doing well, but Jess may possibly recover.

Mrs. Anna Brown has been suffering with a nervous attack for some time. Mrs Hattie Hartman's little boy has been quite sick for the past two weeks.

Rev. Mooreman was called to Waveland last Tuesday to preach a funeral. Mr. Drullinger, of Veedersburg, was the guest of Miss Grace Elmore last Sunday.

The Christian church revival closes to-night. Thoy have had good crowds each evening.

Alex Campbell strained his back while loading logs last Monday, and will be laid up a while.

Mr. McC'impbell, of Crawfordsville, was here Tuesday evening working in the interest of the Modern Woodmen lodge here

Miss Daisy Campbell will be prepared to instruct a class in music on organ, guitar or mat-dolin this coming spring and summer.

The Kebekah lodge gave asocial last Friday evening Quite a number of persons were present and enjoyed a nice lunch of cake, pie, coffee and pop corn. Games were played and all appeared to enjoy tiic evening immensely.

Dr GriUith is working into a good practice at this place. Everyone who has had the pleasure of his acquaintance speaks highly of him. He is also quite jolly, knows how to take and give a joke, and along with those good qualities ho can boast ot being a champion wood chopper. Cooks always like the stove wood cut into kindling.

Last Saturday morning after a few weeks of almost painless illness Wm. Holman passed away at the age of 79 years He was one of the oldest citizens of this place. He has b«en a a miliar figure on the streets and in the stores, always taking a deep luterest in the issues of the day and listening patiently to those newspaper readers who congregated at different places in our town. He was a veteran of the civel war, having served his time as a faithful and brave soldier in the 9ih battery, was a peaceable and inoffensive man. The. family and friends of Uncle Billy will miss him.

Friday. Mrs. Margaret Booher returned from Illinois Saturday.

Frank Davis, of Crawfordsville, was here last Thursday. F. J. Booher returned from Armstrong, Ih., Wednesday.

Mrs T. E. Hobson is critically ill at her home on Jefferson street. Miss Nora Wills, of Pittsboro, is the guest of friends here this week.

Charley Clark, of Colfax, spent Sunday with his father west of town. The children of Charley Jones are better now. They have diphtheria.

Miss Mary Lane, uncle John Stipe and Warner Petersou are on the sick list.

Jacob Reynolds has purchased the restaurant and is now in the old place of business.

Mrs. John Powell, of Lebanon, was the guest of Mrs. Charley li'uith the first of the week.

Ward Walkup, of Crawfordsville, was here Monday. He went to Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

A largo del gat,ion of our citizens went to Crawfordsville .Saturday to attend the funeral of ex-Governor Mount.

Last Wednesday evening was a gala time among Odd Fellow circles at this place. It was all on account of the first anniversary of the encampment. The evening was spent in a very enjoyable way. Refreshments were served and all present enjoyed the hospitality.

The local lodge of Rebekahs entertained the North Salem liebekahs last Monday evening. Nine candidates were instructed in the mysteries of the order after which refreshments were served and everyone was at her best.

The teachers' institute was held here Saturday. The following resolutions were passed by the teachers:

WHEREAS, by the death of ex-Gover-nor James A. Mount, the state has lost an illustrious statesman, and this county an honored citizen, therefore be it

Resolved,

That the Walnut township

institute deems it proper, in memory of our deceased governor, to express "our sympathy with the relatives and friends of the deceased, and bo it further

Resolved,

That the institute adjourn
