We were very sorry to hear of the death of the Linden correspondent. We will miss his letters. One tiling we liked so much about his writing, he took a brave stand always tor the right, land fearlessly stood by his course. We hope some good citizen in that town I will take his place and speak out for the good of their town as he did.

1

As a general rule the better class of I citizens fight a bad cause. Anything that would have a tendency to corrupt or lower the morals of a town or community should be fought until a.wept lout of existence. The idea that a whisky shop would give popularity to a town is degrading to the person who savs so. A saloon never made a town I prosper in anything unless it'was drunkenness. unhappy women, ruined boys, I insulted girls, starving families, lights, murders, dilapidated homes and a bad reputation for your town. Nothing prospers but the saloon keeper. The money that otherwise should go to the I merchant for food or clothing for a family would go to the saloon keeper. just to satisfy the -appetite of one ae uded fool. Not one. but many of thoiu. 1 think when we see, how independent: and peaceable our sister towns Wayne 11own and Wallace are.sinee the evictkm lof the saloons, that* alone would, be 1

enough to shut up the saloon question
