The angel of death has again visited our midst and took from us a dear mother and friend, Mrs. Jennie Lawton. She waa born in Fleming county, Kentucky, Oct 5, 1667, and departed this life Oct. 20, 1899. She leaves a huaband and four children, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. To know her was to love and respect her. She bore her illness of four months of that dreaded disease of consumption with patience and Christian fortitude The funeral was preached at the M. E church here by Rev. Dougherty, and 6be was laid to reat in the cemetery sonth of here.

Eli Bigger, of the South Dakota regment of volunteers, which waB mustered out last week, was in town Monday on his way to see his parents, who live out by Byron. Mr. Bigger has just returned from the Philippines, where he has feen over a year of serv ice. He talks very interestingly of the war which is going on there now aid seems to think it will be a long time before they are cocqnered.
