Pearl James started for Anderson last Wednesday where he will stay with hie brother and work at anything which he can get to do for the present.

POSSUM RIDGE.

Mrs W. Whittington is sick with neuralgia of the heart. Mrs. W. H. Whittington had fifteen teeth extracted last week before leaving the chair.

The condition of the wheat is improving considerable, but there are only a few fields that promise large yield*.

The Ridge again has a good prospect for peaches. All other fruit is in first CIASB condition, promising a very large crop The Ridge can't be beat when it comes to fruit -The new telephone line running from the Ridge to New Market is complete, except the 'phones, which have not yet arrived from the factory. The line running to Alamo is in operation.

The new telephones are here and will be put in as soon as the switch board arrives.

J.J. Elallowell, of Noblesville, who has bought the elevator here formerly owned by J. 0 Finch, will cotuo here to take possession uext Monday.

The members of the I O. O F. lodge here were greatly surprised last meeting night to find their hall crowded with their wives and children with well filled baskets to gladden their hungry system. The band furnished music on the occasion. Everyone went home at a late hour wishing there would be a surprise every night.

Frank Graves lost a colt Tuesday. V. W. Clark is having some wire fence built.

Harry Johnson, of Thorutown, was here Sunday. Jesse Decker, of Darlingten, did professional work last week.

Oca Enoch has the finest looking field of wheat in this locality. Grace Kinnett is eptnding the week with her uncle near Shannondale.

A. Peebles is putting out a fine orchard on his lately purchased farm. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Moffilt, of Darlington, attended services here Sunday.

Mrs. Sam Hoywor h, of Thorntown, has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Robe. Peebles.

Miss Kate Petars, of Darlington, is assisting Mrs. Robt. Peebles with her spring work.

Master Guy Warren is very sick at this writing with not much hope of his recovery.

Rev. Thomas Miller, of Spiceland, has been the guest of his niece, Mrs. Pleasant Butler.

Masters Herman Johnson and Evans, of Crawford6viile, were here Sunday evening.

Rev. Myron Cart'.ey, of Wabash, preacned to an attentive audience herela6t Sunday evening. He will preach here again on May 7th at 11 o'clock a. m.

Christian Endeavor meets on Sunday evenings at 7 o'clock instead of Wednesday. Albert Macey is president and Archie Peebles secretary. A cordial welcome will be given members of other societies and those wishing to join will be gladly received into our endeavor at this pace.

The Friends Quarterly bible school conference held here last Saturday was both interesting and profitable. Rev. Ella Davis, of Richmond. Ind., in her pleasing manner, and Chas. Ros3, bur worthy ex-county Sunday school superintendent, both wide awake workers in this cause, gave the conference some practical ideas that would be worthy of practice. The papers read also by Almedia Pritchard and Sarah Stewart were splendid productions. The nex one will be held at Walnut Grove, July 22nd, 1899.

FRUITS.

Mrs. Arthur Weller visited home folks this week. A large crowd attended Sunday school last Sunday.

Miss Lillie Stull is working for Mrs. James Ingersoll this week. Messrs. Hunt and Sering have resumed their boarding at Mrs. Fink's.

Mabel and Hazel Fink spent apart of last week with relatives in Waynetown.

Uncle Joe Brown, of Ingersoll Corner, visited Mr. and Mrs Aquilla Stull Sunday.

Valentine Bruner, the aged and infirm father of Mrs. Bettie Hall, iB in a very feeble condition.

Cyrus Fink and family and Edwin Ingersoll and family took dinner at Willard Fink's Sunday.

Elmer Myers was the victim of a runaway last Thursday eveaing. He very fortunately came out uninjured.

Ivan Fink and James Steel are home from West Baden springs. Mr. Fink failed to derive any benefit to his health.

Charles Brown is our champion horse trader. He has now in his possession a fine horse he purchased of Mr. Titus, of Alamo.

Mrs. Carrie Brown is a bustler. She has set 115 turkey eggs this spring. Who can beat? We may get an invitation to a Thanksgiving dinner.

Mrs. Sam Miller is still very sick. Forest Graves is the owner of a new bicycle.

Mrs, Ronk is having her house painted. B. F. Babb was at Crawfordsville Wednesday.

Nate Thompson has put a new coat of paint on his residence which adds much to its appearance.

Chas. Hurt, master mechanic clerk for the C. & S. E railroad at Lebanon, is home on a sick furlough.

The team from the Rathbone lodge at JameBtown visited the Rathbone lodge at this place Wednesday night and performed some of their good work.

Stillman Golf has purchased 32% acres of land of Edgar Ames, of Crawfordsville. Consideration $1,300.

The Baptist people at this place made up money and bought the pastor's wife a new sewing machine.

Jesse Goben and wife, of Linden, attended church at this place Sunday and visited their daughter, Mrs. Mintie Ames.

Wesley Grubbs and family were called to Balhinch last week to attend the funeral of Candy Lewellen's little daughter.

Willard Gardner and family of Boone county, were the guests of his father and other relatives at this place Saturday and Sunday.

Mr. Watson is getting ready for business. He has purchased a new set of harness, a new breaking plow and a new corn planter.

J. R. Vancleave has taken the contract to build three rooms for Sam Biddle and he will put a force of hands to work on it shortly.

We have a good Sunday school at this place and a gocd turn o"t All seem to take a great deal of interest. Come one and all and help to make our school still better.

Remember the quarterly meeting at the M. E. church at this place next Sunday. Elder Cissel will preacb Saturday evening and Sunday morning and evening. All are invited to attend.

Wilmer Wheeler has formed a habit of fighting the ghost over the Salin road.

School at Flat Creek is progressing nicely with Miss Lulu Engle as teacher.

Whenever you see C. E. Butler and his race horse coming you must give him the road.

Governor Mount has had his farm improved by having the hedge fence along the road cut down.

Harry Wheeler, Pearl Delaney, Anna Evans, Stephen Swiney, Wilmer Wheeler and Clara Moore attended church at Gravelly Run Sunday night.

Butter has become very cheap in this neighborhood and we do not know the cause of it unless it is those great milk and butter cows that we read so much about over in Lowland.

We have a certain young man in our community who has formed a habit of UBing other people's mail boxes and writing notes to young ladies and signing other people's names to them. We know who.he is and if it occurs again his name will be published.

School closes this week. Lucy Fishero has been very sick the past week.

Mr. and Mrs. James Micheals received a letter from their son Floyd, who is in the Philippine Islands. A few of the seniors of our town, viz: Bass Stonebraker, Thomas Phillips, JesBe Grenard and Edward Small, are repotted physically indisposed at present.

The Law and Order League are thoroughly on to where the scented breaths and disgraceful drunks have been originating recently and will see that the grand jury receives all necessary information in due time.
