J. E. Rosenberger started a class in vocal music Tuesday night. George and Fred Stephenson have moved to Bolton, Kan., to farm.
Three vacant houses here, mostly on account of high rent and but little work.
Will Hunt drove to Lafayette Monday, after being at home with his wife two days.
Such freezing weather as this the ditchers putting in tile are making but little headway.
J. S. Bennett says he is all the old veteran that is a notary public in this place. The boys should patronize him by having him place his notary Beal on theiz vouchers.
The conundrum social which was to have been held at Miss Frances JoneB' last Saturday night, was not given on account of so much grip in the community.
About every third house in our town iB a hospital, judging from the amount of business tne doctors are having. No fatal cases of the grip have been reported tbus far.
John Barton, an old timer of this place, landed here on last Monday on a visit. His home is in southern Illinois at present. He looks the same as when he lived here.

T. J. Meadagan, road master on the Clover Loaf, was here Monday, looking after the tiling of the J. M. Hose ditch where it crosses their right of way, as the company will put in a fill at that nlace.
Our home talent are fixing for a show to be given in Dr. Dingman's hall. The titleis"The Hickory Farm" and we have no fears but what it will be a success. The announcement will be made later.
The Linden Exchange sign has been removed from the saloon front of the firnt building occupied by John Vyise and wife when they first moved to this place, and it is now a boarding house run by ear inspector Hendricks and family.
Lodge No. 393, I. O. O. F. of Linden, have second and third degree work on two candidates to-night if there are enough able bodied members to get through with the work. Any visiting members will be welcome to be on hand that they might assist in the work if needed. Gome any way.

Social meetings are held here at the hristian church every Sunday at 10 'c lock a. m. Everyone cordially in-, vited to attend.
The supper given by the G. A. R. Po&t last Saturday night was well attended and all eojoyed themselves hugely. Receipts were 87 50.
A gramaphone entertainment was given at tne school house last Thursday night by Carl James, of Lapland. There was not a very large crowd in attendance
Jas. Welch made a mistake last Mond&y morning and kindled the morning fire with his wife's shoes and stockings. James bad to make a trip to Ladoga in a few days.
Samuel Call, who has been along and patient sufferer for fourteen months, departed this life at 5:15 p. m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 1S99 His first marriage was to Emma Taylor, who departed this life some twenty years ago. To thia union were born six children, four of whom have gone before and two survive. His second marriage was to Mary J. Shahan, and to this union was born one son. He united with the Christian church at Parkersburg about three years ago. "Uncle Sam," as he was familiarly known among bis neighbors, was a good, kind husband and a kind, consistent Christian citizen and neighbor. He was loved and respected by all,and will bo sadly missed by a large circle nf friends, neighbors and relatives. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church at Parkersburg by Rev. Henry Ashley, of Lebanon. oThe I. O O. F. lodge, of which he was a member, conducted services at the Ladoga cemetery, after which the interment took place.
